A Jura prompts you for each job, and each job uses its own tablet. Run the one it asks for, use Jura's products and do not interrupt a programme.

A Jura does not leave you guessing. It counts the cups it makes, tracks the scale and the coffee oil in the system, and tells you on the display when it wants a programme. Your job is to run the programme it asks for, with the product it asks for, and not to stop halfway. A Jura whose prompts are cancelled for months ends up needing a technician.

This guide explains the four Jura programmes and what each one is for: cleaning, descaling, the water filter and the milk system. It sets out the descaling stages on the display, the products Jura says to use, what the CLARIS filter changes, how the milk system fits in and what goes wrong.

If your Jura is faulty rather than overdue, see the signs near the end. For a repair, see [Jura coffee machine repair in Dubai](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/jura-coffee-machine-repair-dubai). For other makes there is a [general guide to descaling a coffee machine](https://oneclickdubai.com/guides/how-to-descale-a-coffee-machine).

## How to descale a Jura machine: the short answer

1. **Wait for the prompt**: The display says when descaling is due. Jura's machines track limescale and prompt you, and the interval depends on your water.
2. **Get the right tablets**: Use Jura descaling tablets. They come in blisters of three. Jura says only original Jura maintenance products guarantee hygiene and protection.
3. **Allow 40 minutes**: Descaling takes about 40 minutes.
4. **Empty the trays**: Empty the drip tray and the coffee grounds container, and put them back.
5. **Empty the tank and remove the filter**: If you use a water filter, take it out. Put it back, or fit a new one, after descaling.
6. **Dissolve three tablets**: Put three descaling tablets in 500 ml of water. Let them dissolve fully, which can take a few minutes.
7. **Pour the solution into the tank**: Put the tank back, and place a container of at least 500 ml under the coffee outlet and the hot water outlet.
8. **Press continue and let it run**: Do not interrupt the programme. Jura warns that interrupting may damage the machine.
9. **Rinse when prompted**: Fill the tank with fresh water to the max mark and let the machine rinse. Empty the containers when the display says to.
10. **Finish**: Empty the trays again. The display returns to ready.

The steps above follow the prompts. Your model's display words may differ, but the stages are the same.

## The four Jura programmes: do not mix them up

| Programme | What it does | Product | How often |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Cleaning | Cleans the coffee path of oil and residue. Water reaches 80 °C during the automatic cleaning | One Jura cleaning tablet per cleaning | When the machine prompts. Jura says the longer you postpone it, the more residue and oil accumulate |
| Descaling | Dissolves limescale in the heating and water path | Jura descaling tablets, three per descale in the manuals | When the machine prompts. Not prompted if a CLARIS filter is active, per Jura |
| Filter | Programme and rinse the CLARIS filter cartridge in the tank | A CLARIS cartridge | Each time you fit one. Jura says to rinse the filter each time the machine starts up |
| Milk system | Rinses and cleans the milk pipe and the milk path on models that have one | Jura milk system cleaner | Rinse after milk drinks and clean when prompted |

Each programme removes a different thing. A cleaning tablet will not remove scale, and descaling tablets will not clean coffee oil. If the display asks for cleaning, descaling does not answer it.

## Signs and prompts

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| A cleaning prompt | Coffee oil and residue are due for removal | Run the cleaning programme with a Jura cleaning tablet |
| A descale prompt | Scale is due for removal | Run the descaling programme |
| A filter prompt | The CLARIS cartridge has reached its life, or needs programming | Replace and program it |
| A prompt that returns right after you cancel | The job is still due | Run it. Cancelling postpones the job and does not do it |
| Please descale, with a filter fitted | Jura says the machine has not been programmed to filter mode | Program the filter in the machine |
| Slow flow, lukewarm coffee or white flakes | Scale is building | Descale, even if the display has not asked yet |

The longer you postpone, the harder the job becomes. Jura's own wording makes the same point about cleaning.

## Which Jura do you have?

Jura sells families of machines with different display styles. The names are on the front and the model code is on the base or back.

| Family | What it looks like | What we could confirm |
| --- | --- | --- |
| E-series (E6, E8 and others) | Colour or touch display with a rotary or buttons | The E8 descaling steps from a retailer walk-through |
| S-series (S8 and others) | Larger machine with a touch display | Not confirmed. Use the display prompts and the manual |
| A-series (A1, A7 and others) | Compact machines with a small display and rotary switch | The A7 steps from the manual |
| ENA and other compact models | Small display | Use the display prompts and the manual |
| WE and Giga office machines | Larger machines for offices | Use the manual |

The sequences we have are for the E8 and the A7. On the others the display prompts you through the same stages, and the manual is the final word. If you tell us the model code, we will find the steps.

## What you need

- Jura descaling tablets. They come in blisters of three and are sold by specialist dealers.
- Jura cleaning tablets, if the cleaning programme is due.
- Two containers of at least 500 ml each, one for the coffee outlet and one for the hot water outlet.
- A measuring cup of at least 500 ml to dissolve the tablets.
- Fresh water for the rinse.
- A cloth, since descaling agent can mark sensitive surfaces. Jura's A7 manual warns about splashes on marble.
- About 40 minutes. You do not need to stay at the machine, but you need to be near it for the prompts.

Jura says only original Jura maintenance products guarantee complete hygiene and protection, and its descaling tablets are made so they do not damage the pipes. For a machine under warranty, use them. Out of warranty, the choice is yours, but read what any other product claims and never mix products.

## Descaling an E8-style Jura

This sequence comes from a retailer's walk-through for the E8. Your display may word things differently, but the stages match the Jura prompts.

1. **Start from the prompt**: When the display shows a descale notification, press the button with the five water droplets, next to the P at the bottom left.
2. **Read the time**: The display says descaling takes 40 minutes. Press start.
3. **Read the product notice**: The display advises using only Jura maintenance products. Press continue.
4. **Empty the trays**: Empty the drip tray and the coffee grounds container and put both back.
5. **Empty the tank**: Remove the water tank, empty it in the sink and remove the water filter if you use one. Put the filter back after descaling, or replace it with a new one.
6. **Dissolve the tablets**: Fill a measuring cup with 500 ml of water and add three descaling tablets. Let them dissolve for a few minutes.
7. **Fill the tank**: Pour the solution into the water tank and put the tank back.
8. **Place the containers**: A container of at least 500 ml under the coffee outlet and another under the hot water outlet.
9. **Start**: Press continue. The machine starts the cycle. When it finishes, the display shows empty water container.

### Rinse stage

1. **Empty the containers**: Remove both and empty them.
2. **Empty the trays again**: Drip tray and grounds container.
3. **Fill with fresh water**: Rinse the tank, fill it to the max mark and put it back.
4. **Replace the containers**: Back under the coffee and hot water outlets.
5. **Press next**: The machine rinses with water.
6. **Finish**: When the display shows empty water container again, empty both containers and the trays. The descaling is complete.

The retailer notes that with a Claris Smart filter replaced on time, the descale prompt is rare, about once every two years. That is the retailer's figure, and Jura's own wording is that descaling is not needed when using CLARIS.

## Descaling an A7-style Jura

The A7 manual shows the older style, driven by a rotary switch and short display messages.

1. **Start**: When DE-SCALE is displayed, press the rotary switch.
2. **Trays**: At EMPTY TRAY, empty and reinsert the drip tray and the coffee grounds container.
3. **Agent in tank**: At AGENT IN TANK, remove and empty the water tank.
4. **Dissolve**: Fully dissolve one blister of three tablets in a container holding 500 ml of water. This may take several minutes.
5. **Fill**: Pour the solution into the empty tank and put the tank back.
6. **Continue**: Press the rotary switch when the display says PRESS ROTARY. The machine then runs the programme, which takes about 40 minutes.

- Do not interrupt the descaling programme. Jura's manual says interruption may damage the machine.
- Avoid contact with the descaling agent. It can cause irritation. Rinse any contact with clean water, and see a doctor if it gets into your eyes.
- Clean any splashes at once, since sensitive surfaces such as marble can be damaged.
- Using anything other than original Jura maintenance products can damage the machine and leave traces in the water.

The manual page stops at the start of the programme. The rinse stages follow the prompts on the display. Follow them to the end.

## The cleaning programme

Descaling is not the whole of Jura care. The cleaning programme removes the coffee oil that builds up in the brew path, and Jura's FAQ says the machine prompts for it.

1. **Wait for the prompt**: The display shows the cleaning prompt. Start it.
2. **Add the tablet**: Jura's prompt asks you to add a cleaning tablet. On the A7 manual, you open the powder chute for ground coffee and drop in one Jura cleaning tablet, then close the chute.
3. **Start the programme**: The A7 display shows CLEANING while water flows from the spout several times.
4. **Empty the trays**: When the display says EMPTY TRAY, empty and reinsert the drip tray and the grounds container.
5. **Finish**: The machine returns to ready.

Use one cleaning tablet per cleaning operation, as Jura's FAQ states. Water reaches 80 °C during the automatic cleaning, so keep your hands clear of the outlets while it runs.

## The CLARIS filter and your tap water

| Point | What Jura says |
| --- | --- |
| Fit a CLARIS cartridge | In the water tank |
| Program it | Program and rinse the filter each time the machine is started up |
| Replace it | After 50 litres of water, or after 2 months, whichever comes first |
| Descaling with CLARIS | Not needed while a CLARIS filter is active. If the display says Please descale with a filter fitted, the filter has not been programmed |
| Clean the tank | Use three descaling tablets each time you change the filter |
| Rinse the tank | Rinse thoroughly every day and refill with fresh water every morning |
| Mineral water | Do not use mineral water in Jura machines, because its calcium content is too high |
| Before a break | Keep the filter standing in water. After a trip, rinse the filter with one or two portions of hot water. If away for over a month, fit a new filter |

A filter does not mean you can ignore the machine. It means the descale prompt comes far less often, and the cleaning prompt still comes. Replace the cartridge on schedule, because an old filter stops protecting the machine.

## The milk system

Machines with an automatic milk system have their own rinse and cleaning programmes, and they matter as much as descaling.

- Run the milk system rinse after milk drinks, as your machine prompts.
- Run the milk system cleaning programme with Jura milk system cleaner when it is due.
- Replace the milk pipe every three months with normal use, or more often if you make several milk drinks a day, per Jura's FAQ.
- Do not insert the milk pipe directly into a milk carton, per Jura's FAQ. Use a clean container.
- Do not put descaling solution through the milk system unless your manual says so.

Dried milk blocks narrow channels faster than scale does. A milk system that spits or foams thinly needs cleaning before descaling.

## Reading the display: what each prompt means

Jura's display messages are short, and the words differ between older and newer machines.

| Prompt | What it means | What you do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| DE-SCALE or a descale notification | The machine wants the descaling programme | Press the rotary switch or the descale button to start |
| Descaling takes 40 minutes | A time warning before you begin | Press start only if you have the time |
| Use only JURA maintenance products | A product reminder | Press continue |
| EMPTY TRAY | The drip tray and grounds container need emptying | Empty both and put them back |
| AGENT IN TANK | Time to add the solution | Empty the tank, then fill it with the dissolved tablets |
| PRESS ROTARY | Ready to start the cycle | Press the rotary switch |
| Empty water container | The machine has run its cycle into the containers | Empty both containers and continue |
| Fill the tank to max | Time for the rinse | Rinse the tank, fill it with fresh water and press next |
| CLEANING | The cleaning programme is running | Wait. Keep hands clear of the outlets |
| READY | The programme is complete | Make a drink |

Different words can mean the same stage on a newer display. The order does not change: empty, add, run, empty, rinse, empty.

## A 40-minute timeline

| Minutes | What happens | What you do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 0 to 5 | You start the programme and read the prompts | Empty the trays and the tank, remove the filter |
| 5 to 10 | The tablets dissolve | Put three tablets in 500 ml of water and wait. Fill the tank |
| 10 to 30 | The machine runs the solution through the coffee and hot water outlets | Stay within earshot. Empty a container only if the display asks |
| 30 to 35 | The machine prompts for the rinse | Empty the containers, rinse the tank and fill it with fresh water |
| 35 to 45 | The machine rinses | Empty the containers and trays when asked |
| After | The machine returns to ready | Put the filter back or fit a new one, wipe the machine and make a drink |

Jura gives 40 minutes for the programme, and the preparation adds a few. Choose a time when nobody needs coffee.

## Your Jura's water tank: the daily routine

Jura's own FAQ asks for a simple tank routine, and it prevents more trouble than any programme.

- Rinse the water tank thoroughly every day.
- Refill it with fresh water every morning.
- Do not use mineral water, because Jura says its calcium content is too high.
- Clean the tank with three Jura descaling tablets each time you change the filter.
- Check that the tank sits fully in place, because a tank that is not seated can trigger empty-tank messages.
- Lift out the float and check that it slides freely, if your model has one.

Stale water in a tank is a taste problem before it is a scale problem, and a daily rinse fixes it.

## Going away for a few days or a month

- Run the cleaning programme if it is due before you leave.
- Empty the drip tray and the grounds container, so they do not smell.
- Keep a CLARIS filter standing in water, as Jura advises.
- After a trip, rinse the filter with one or two portions of hot water, at least 200 ml, as Jura's FAQ states.
- If you were away for more than a month, fit a new filter.
- Empty the bean container if the beans will sit for weeks.

A machine back from a long absence should run a rinse before the first coffee.

## Original Jura products or alternatives?

Jura is firm. Its FAQ says only original Jura maintenance products guarantee complete hygiene and protection, and its A7 manual warns that anything else can damage the machine and leave traces in the water. Its descaling tablets are made for the machine, and the retailer walk-through says they are made so they do not damage the water pipes.

| Situation | Our advice |
| --- | --- |
| Under warranty | Use original Jura products only |
| Out of warranty, product to hand | Use the original, because the programme is built around it |
| Out of warranty, want to economise | Do it with care. Choose a product that names Jura machines, use the exact dose and never mix products |
| Only vinegar or citric acid in the house | Buy proper tablets. Jura's pages do not recommend household acids |

Descaling tablets are not expensive next to a thermoblock. If you are tempted to save money, keep the saving for something else.

## A Jura that has been neglected for a long time

A machine that has cancelled its prompts for a year or more may have heavy scale and a dirty brew path.

1. **Run the cleaning programme**: Start with the cleaning programme and tablet, because oil sits in the brew path.
2. **Run the descaling programme**: Then descale. Do not skip the rinse.
3. **Check the result**: If flow, temperature and taste improve, the job is done.
4. **Repeat if needed**: A second descale on another day is safer than strengthening the dose.
5. **Watch for leaks**: Old scale can plug a small leak. When it dissolves, the leak may show.
6. **Book a technician**: Heavy scale may have damaged the thermoblock or the brew unit, and we can check on site.

We descale and service neglected Jura machines on site and tell you honestly whether the scale has done lasting damage.

## Warranty and who to call first

A Jura under warranty should go back through the dealer or importer first. Our [Jura repair page](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/jura-coffee-machine-repair-dubai) explains who handles Jura in the UAE and what the warranty covers. Using original Jura maintenance products and keeping a record of each programme helps a warranty claim.

- Keep the receipt and the warranty card.
- Keep the packaging from your tablets and filters.
- Write the date of each programme on a label or in your phone.
- Take a photo of any error message before you message us.
- Do not open the machine yourself, because that may affect the warranty.

If the warranty has ended, or the dealer cannot attend, message us.

## Descale Jura E6, E8, S8 or A1: what we can and cannot tell you

Searches name specific models, and people deserve a straight answer about each.

| Model searched | What we have | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Jura E8 | A retailer's step-by-step, set out above | Follow it, with your display prompts alongside |
| Jura E6 and E60 | No confirmed steps. The programme follows the same stages | Follow the display prompts and the manual, or send us the code |
| Jura S8 | No confirmed steps | Follow the display prompts and the manual |
| Jura A1 | No confirmed steps for the A1. The older A7 manual is above for reference | Use the A1 manual, since the sequence differs |
| Jura A7 | The manual steps above | Follow them |
| Other models | Not confirmed | Follow the manual |

The stages are the same on every Jura: empty the trays, add the dissolved tablets to the tank, run the programme into two containers, rinse with fresh water. What changes between models is where the buttons are and what the display calls each stage. Follow the menu path in your own manual.

If you message us your model code, we will find the correct steps and send them back.

## Cleaning, descaling, filter, milk: cost and time at a glance

| Job | Product | Time | Skipping it costs |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Cleaning programme | One cleaning tablet | A few minutes of waiting | Oily brew path, bitter coffee, brew unit faults |
| Descaling programme | Three descaling tablets | About 40 minutes | Slow flow, cool coffee, thermoblock damage |
| Filter change | A CLARIS cartridge | A few minutes | More frequent descale prompts, more scale |
| Milk system rinse and clean | Milk system cleaner | A few minutes | Spitting, thin foam, blocked pipe |
| Milk pipe replacement | A new pipe | A minute | Hygiene problems and weak foam |

Every job on the list is small next to the repair it prevents. The cheapest items are the ones people postpone.

## A five-minute weekly routine

1. **Wash the drip tray and grille**: Warm water and a mild washing-up liquid, then dry them.
2. **Wash the grounds container**: Empty it, rinse it and dry it.
3. **Wipe the bean container**: Take out old beans if they sit unused, since oils go stale.
4. **Wipe the spouts and the outside**: A damp cloth. Keep descaling agent off sensitive surfaces.
5. **Rinse the milk pipe**: If your model has one, rinse it as the machine prompts.
6. **Check the tank**: Rinse it and refill it with fresh water.

This routine takes five minutes and keeps the machine pleasant to use. It does not replace the cleaning and descaling programmes, which come when the machine asks.

## Hard water, soft water, and when a filter earns its keep

Jura's guidance puts the water filter at the centre of scale control, so it deserves a clear decision.

| Choice | What it does | What you give up |
| --- | --- | --- |
| CLARIS filter fitted and programmed | Jura says descaling is not needed while it is active | You replace the cartridge every 50 litres or 2 months, and you must program it |
| No filter | Nothing reduces scale before the machine | The machine prompts for descaling and you run the 40-minute programme |
| Filter fitted but not programmed | The machine does not know it is there and asks to descale | You lose the benefit and the prompts mislead you |
| Bottled mineral water | Seems clean | Jura says its calcium content is too high |

For most households the filter is the easy path. The cost of cartridges is regular and small, and it spares you the long programme. Keep a spare cartridge in a drawer, because the schedule is short, and an expired cartridge protects nothing.

If you are not sure whether the filter is programmed, check the display. A descale prompt with a filter in the tank is the usual sign that it is not.

## What a technician checks if the programme keeps failing

- The tank, its seat and the float, which can stick with scale and give false empty-tank readings.
- The water path: pump, valves and tubes, for blockage and leaks.
- The thermoblock, which is the part scale harms most, tested for heat-up time and temperature.
- The brew unit, which is removed, cleaned and regreased on a service.
- The milk system, for worn or blocked parts.
- The grinder and the bean path.

Our [Jura repair page](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/jura-coffee-machine-repair-dubai) sets out the faults in detail. If a machine will not complete a programme, the pump or a valve is the usual cause, and that is a visit.

## Mistakes that cost money

| Mistake | Why it matters |
| --- | --- |
| Cancelling the prompt again and again | The scale and oil stay, and the job gets harder |
| Using a product that is not made for Jura | Jura says only original products guarantee hygiene and protection, and others can damage the machine and leave traces in the water |
| Interrupting the descaling programme | Jura's manual says it may damage the machine |
| Using mineral water | Jura says its calcium content is too high |
| Leaving the filter in during descaling | The steps tell you to remove it first |
| Mixing up cleaning and descaling | They are different jobs with different tablets |
| Forgetting to replace the CLARIS cartridge | It lasts 50 litres or 2 months, whichever comes first |
| Splashing descaler on marble or stone | Jura's manual warns it can damage sensitive surfaces |
| Putting the milk pipe straight into the carton | Jura says not to |

The most expensive of these is ignoring the prompts for a year. The thermoblock and the brew unit pay for it.

## Troubleshooting a Jura descale

### The machine will not start the programme

- Check that the tank is seated and holds water.
- Check that the drip tray and grounds container are in place.
- Check that the filter is out if the steps say so.
- Switch off, wait a minute and try again.

### The programme stops partway

- The tank is empty or the solution has run out. Follow the display.
- A container is full. Empty it and press continue.
- A tray is missing. Refit it.

### The display says Please descale after you descaled

- The programme was interrupted. Run it again from the start.
- A filter is fitted and has not been programmed. Program it in the machine.
- The filter is expired. Replace it.

### The machine will not rinse

The tank may not be filled to the max mark, or it is not seated. Refill and press next.

### Coffee tastes sharp or sour afterwards

Run two or three more rinses with fresh water, including the hot water outlet.

### A leak after descaling

Descaling does not cause leaks, but it can reveal a tired seal. Check the tank seat and the trays, then book a visit.

## Office and hospitality Jura machines

- Name one person responsible for each machine and keep a written log of cleaning, descaling and filter changes.
- Keep a stock of cleaning tablets, descaling tablets, CLARIS cartridges and milk cleaner, so a prompt is never ignored for lack of a product.
- Stagger the programmes across machines so you never lose them all at once.
- Train two people, not one.
- Replace the milk pipe on schedule if the machine makes milk drinks all day.
- Book a service for a machine with heavy use, instead of waiting for a fault.

We service Jura machines in offices and hotels across Dubai and can set up regular visits with a log sheet left beside the machine.

## When descaling is not the answer: call a technician

| After a proper descale and cleaning | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Flow and heat back to normal | It was scale or oil | Keep to the prompts |
| Still weak or no coffee | Brew unit, grinder or pump | Book a visit |
| Coffee still lukewarm | Heater or thermoblock | Book a visit |
| Error messages return | A sensor or a control fault | Send a photo of the display |
| Milk system will not froth | Blocked or worn milk parts | Clean, replace the pipe, then book a visit |
| Grinder noise or no grind | Burrs, motor or a jam | Switch off and book a visit |
| Leaks beneath the machine | Seal, hose or pump | Switch off and book a visit |
| Machine is under warranty | The importer or Jura may repair it | Contact the dealer first |

We repair Jura machines at your home or office in Dubai. The visit is AED 100 plus VAT, the repair is AED 80 to AED 400 depending on the fault, and the price is agreed before work starts. Parts are genuine and a month of cover applies. See [Jura coffee machine repair](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/jura-coffee-machine-repair-dubai).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I descale a Jura?

Run the descaling programme when the display asks for it, with three Jura descaling tablets dissolved in 500 ml of water, and let it finish. Then rinse with fresh water when prompted.

### How long does descaling a Jura take?

About 40 minutes. The display shows each stage, ending with the rinse.

### What tablets do I use?

Jura descaling tablets for descaling and Jura cleaning tablets for cleaning. Jura says only original Jura maintenance products guarantee hygiene and protection.

### How often should I descale?

When the machine prompts. Jura says descaling is not needed while a CLARIS filter is active.

### How often do I change the CLARIS filter?

After 50 litres or 2 months, whichever comes first, per Jura.

### Can I stop a descale halfway?

No. Jura's manual says interrupting the programme may damage the machine.

### Can I use vinegar or citric acid?

Jura says to use original maintenance products.

### Can I use mineral water in a Jura?

Jura says not to, because its calcium content is too high.

### What is the difference between cleaning and descaling?

Cleaning removes coffee oil with a cleaning tablet. Descaling removes limescale with descaling tablets. The machine prompts for both.

### The display says Please descale and I have a filter fitted. Why?

Jura says the machine has not been programmed to filter mode. Program the filter in the machine.

### How do I descale a Jura E6, E8 or S8?

The display runs the stages. The E8 steps are above. For the E6 and S8, follow the prompts and the manual, or send us the model code.

### Can I descale a Jura if the display has not asked?

You can, but the machine tracks scale and prompts when it needs it. If you see slow flow or white flakes before a prompt, descale early.

### How often should I run the Jura cleaning programme?

When the machine prompts. Jura's FAQ gives no fixed interval and says postponing it lets residue and oil build up.

### How often should I replace the milk pipe?

Every three months with normal use, or sooner if you make several milk drinks a day, per Jura's FAQ.

### Does the cleaning tablet go in the water tank?

No. On the A7 you drop it in the powder chute when prompted, and on other models the display tells you where it goes.

### Who repairs Jura machines in Dubai?

One Click Dubai sends a technician the same day. Message us on WhatsApp at +971 55 209 9785. If the machine is under warranty, contact the dealer first.
