Astoria builds traditional professional espresso machines: group heads, steam wands, a pump and a boiler, with a built-in or separate grinder beside them. The Plus 4 You, the Storm, the Core 200 and the Sibilla are the names café owners know. They are simpler than a fully automatic machine, which means the fault is usually something a barista can see: weak steam, a slow shot, wet grounds in the portafilter, water on the counter or a group that runs cold.

This page sets out what Astoria's own manuals say about those faults. We worked from the malfunction tables in the Plus 4 You, Core 200 and Storm manuals, and from the Tempesta and Storm manual's cleaning and maintenance chapter, which gives the clearest schedule.

Our technicians come to your café, restaurant or hotel kitchen, find the fault, quote the price before any part is fitted and repair on site wherever the machine allows. Cafés and hotels go first on the booking list.

## Astoria coffee machine service in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

The visit costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT and pays for finding the fault. Once you approve a repair, most Astoria jobs cost between AED 80 and AED 400, depending on the part.

- Same-day visits in most cases. Tell us the model and send a photo of the machine and its rating plate.
- Genuine parts, quoted with the labour.
- One month of cover on the part and the work.
- We repair on site. Workshop pickup is for the jobs that cannot be done in your kitchen.

| Fault | Typical work | Where it sits in the range |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Steam wand blocked or weak | Clear the sprayer, then test the steam valve and boiler | Lower to middle |
| Water or wet steam from the wand | Test the boiler level and the hydraulic path | Middle |
| Slow, fast or uneven shots | Check the grind, the basket and the group, then the pump pressure | Lower to middle |
| Group runs cold or coffee is the wrong temperature | Flush the group, then test the heater and sensor | Lower to middle |
| Wet grounds in the portafilter | Check basket, shower screen and filter edge, then the three-way valve | Lower to middle |
| Water on the counter or under the machine | Trace the drain, the drip tray connection and the hoses | Lower to middle |
| Pump noisy, leaking or tripping the protector | Test the pump and motor, replace the part | Middle to upper |
| Display shows wrong pressure, or electronics shut down | Test the sensors and board, replace the part | Upper end |
| Dose wrong or buttons flashing | Reprogram, then test the dosing parts and board | Lower to middle |

If a quote would come close to the price of a new machine, you hear that before you decide.

## Which Astoria do you have?

The name is on the front panel and the full model code is on the rating plate. Astoria's own site names these machines in its history: the Sibilla (launched in 1998), the Plus 4 You (with the Green Line launch in 2009), the Plus 4 You Advantage in multiboiler and singleboiler versions, the HYbrid, the Plus4Champions and the Storm (launched in 2017). The Core 200 and Tempesta appear in the manuals.

| Model | Manuals covered | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Plus 4 You (TS) | The malfunction list | Twenty-one named problems |
| Storm and Tempesta | The troubleshooting table and the cleaning and maintenance chapter | The source for the schedule below |
| Sibilla, HYbrid, Plus4Champions | Not quoted on this page | We repair them; check your own manual for the details |
| Tanya and others | No source found | We describe no detail for them |

Models differ in boiler count, group count and electronics, so the notes below are a guide. Your own manual and rating plate decide.

## Who services Astoria in the UAE?

Astoria's own site gives its history, plants and range. It names one distributor, General Espresso Equipment Corporation, covering the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. It names no Middle East distributor or service network and points to the company's general contact address and telephone number for availability elsewhere. We therefore name no UAE service partner for Astoria.

A Dubai retailer, Bevarabia, lists an Astoria AB200 two-group machine for pre-order at AED 15,750, with a free grinder. Its page says nothing about servicing or warranty terms.

| Your situation | What we suggest |
| --- | --- |
| Bought from a UAE seller with a written service promise | Ring the seller or the contact in your paperwork first |
| Machine came with a restaurant or café fit-out | Ask the fit-out company who holds the maintenance contract |
| Out of warranty, or no agreement | Message us. We can usually attend the same day |
| Imported or second-hand | Send the rating plate. The voltage matters (see below) |

We are independent of Astoria. We cannot speak for the maker, and our repair does not replace a factory warranty.

## What Astoria's manuals list as malfunctions

The Plus 4 You, Core 200 and Storm manuals share one malfunction table in different editions. The manuals also mark some rows in grey. For those, the instruction is to switch off the machine and call the maintenance technician.

| Problem | Cause the manual gives | Action the manual gives | When we are called |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| No power to the machine | Switched off | Switch on | It is on and dead |
| No water in the heating unit | Water mains tap shut | Open the mains tap | The tap is open |
| Too much water in the heating unit | Electrical or hydraulic fault | Switch off and call the technician | Always |
| No steam from the nozzles | Clogged nozzle sprayer, or machine off | Clean the sprayer; switch on | The sprayer is clear |
| Water, or steam mixed with water, from the nozzles | Electrical or hydraulic fault | Switch off and call the technician | Always |
| Nothing dispensed | Mains tap shut, grind too fine, or a hydraulic fault | Open the tap, change the grinder setting, otherwise call | Tap open and grind right |
| Water leaks from the machine | Tray not draining, drain pipe broken, detached or obstructed | Check the sewer drain and restore the pipe to the tray | The drain is clear and the leak stays |
| Coffee too hot or too cold | Group too cold, group dirty, grind too fine, coffee stale | Wait for the group to heat, wash it with the blind filter, change the grinder setting, use fresh coffee | It stays |
| Coffee too fast or too slow | Grind too coarse or too fine | Change the grinder setting | The grind is right and it stays |
| Wet coffee grounds | Dirty filter holder, worn filter holes, uneven grind, damaged filter edge | Clean the holder, replace the filter, change the grind | Filter new and grind right |
| Display shows non-conforming pressure | Hydraulic fault | Switch off and call the technician | Always |
| Grounds in cups, or dirty cups | Filter or grind | Replace the filter, change the grinder setting | It stays |
| All push-button LEDs flashing | Not stated | Look it up in your model's manual | It returns |
| Dose wrong or uneven | Grind or the dose settings | Change the grinder setting; reprogram the dose | It stays |
| Dose button LED flashing | Not stated | Look it up in your model's manual | It repeats |
| Electronics shut down | Electrical or hydraulic fault | Switch off and call the technician | Always |
| Water leaking from the pump | Pump fault | Switch off and call the technician | Always |
| Motor stops suddenly, or the thermal protector trips | Pump fault or power overload | Switch off and call the technician | Always |
| Pump noisy, or below nominal flow | Pump fault | Switch off and call the technician | Always |

A pattern runs through the table. The faults that a barista can cure are about the grind, the filter, the group and the drain. Anything in the hydraulic, electrical or pump rows is a call to a technician, because it is under the panels.

## Reading the table as a barista

Astoria's table is useful as a short flow of questions to work through before you ring. We have arranged it that way.

1. **Is the machine on and the water open?**: A machine that is off or a mains tap that is shut explains no power, no water in the heating unit, no steam and no drinks.
2. **Is the grind right?**: A grind that is too fine or too coarse appears in the table against nothing dispensed, slow or fast shots, wrong temperature, wet grounds and a wrong dose. Change it one step at a time and pour a shot after each.
3. **Is the filter sound?**: Dirty holders, worn holes and a damaged edge give wet grounds and grounds in cups. Replace the filter.
4. **Is the group clean and warm?**: A dirty or cold group affects temperature. Wash it with the blind filter and give it time.
5. **Is the drain clear?**: A tray that does not drain, or a drain pipe that has come off, is the manual's first suspect for water on the counter.
6. **Anything else**: Switch off and message us. Do not keep trying.

If you work through those and the fault is still there, the cause is inside the machine and we should look at it.

## Cleaning an Astoria: the schedule in the Tempesta and Storm manual

The Tempesta and Storm manual has the fullest cleaning chapter of the manuals. Machines of the same make clean in similar ways, but check your own manual.

| Part | How often | What the manual says |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Filters and filter holders | Daily | Soak in hot water overnight, then rinse in cold water |
| Filters and filter holders | Weekly | Remove the filter with a screwdriver, soak both parts in warm water with a suitable cleaner for 10 minutes, then rinse. Immerse only the holder cup, not the handle |
| Dispensing group | Daily wash | The machine may prompt a daily wash, which you can cancel. To wash by hand, open the wash menu, press Perform wash, put detergent in the blind filter holder, lock it into the group and press Start. Afterwards remove the holder, refit it for the rinse and press End. Coffee selections for that group are disabled during the wash |
| Group and filter holder | Daily | Scrub with the supplied brush, paying attention to the coupling ring, the holder edge and its wings |
| Shower screen and containment ring | Weekly | Loosen the screw, remove the screen and ring, wash both in hot water, refit and tighten |
| Steam wand | Weekly | Immerse the wand in water with a suitable cleaner, heat it, and let it cool submerged for at least five minutes. Repeat two or three times until no milk residue comes out |
| Steam nozzle | As used | Wipe with a cloth dampened in lukewarm water and clear the outlet holes with a small needle |

### What not to use

- The manual says not to use alkaline cleaners, solvents, alcohol or aggressive substances.
- Use only cleaners the maker supplies or that are made for professional coffee machines, and clean, sanitised cloths.
- Do not immerse the machine or clean it with water jets.
- Do not carry out maintenance with the machine running. Switch off the power, close the water and let the machine cool first, and wear gloves where parts contact food.

If your daily wash is being cancelled every night because the closing shift is rushed, say so when you ring. It is the single most useful habit to restore.

## Water, softener and the heating unit

- Replace the filter cartridge, or regenerate the softener, at the maker's interval or when the regeneration warning appears. The machine counts water use, and a threshold of zero turns the warning off.
- The manual says the softener's regeneration must be set up by a qualified technician.
- It also says to have a qualified technician replace the water in the heating unit at least once every three months.
- The tray under the cup grille must be connected to the drain. If water does not drain, check the sewer drain and restore the pipe connection.

Ask your building for the water report and tell us the figure when you book. On hard water, the softener may need attention sooner than its normal interval.

## Pressures, burrs and settings from the Storm manual

| Item | Figure in the manual |
| --- | --- |
| Heating unit working pressure | 0.08 to 0.14 MPa (0.8 to 1.4 bar), checked weekly |
| Water pressure while dispensing | 0.8 to 0.9 MPa (8 to 9 bar), checked weekly |
| Safety valve calibration | 0.19 MPa (1.9 bar) |
| Dose | About 6 to 7 grams, checked regularly along with grind fineness |
| Burr replacement | After about 400 to 500 kilograms of coffee for flat burrs, 800 to 900 kilograms for conical burrs |
| Burr wear warning | Can be enabled, and the counter reset by a technician |

- Coffee doses are set from the dose programming menu, and each dose must be programmed with fresh ground coffee.
- Group temperature, boiler pressure and cup warmer temperature are service parameters in the parameters menu.
- Changes to autosteamer temperature or froth settings require a qualified technician.

These figures are the Storm's. Another Astoria may use different numbers, so use the figures as a guide to what a healthy machine looks like rather than as a setting to copy.

## Power and installation

The Storm manual gives supply options of 200 volts, 220/380 volts or 240/415 volts at 50 to 60 hertz, with a maximum power of 3,500 to 7,000 watts depending on model and version.

- Dubai's three-phase supply is 400 volts at 50 hertz, which fits the 240/415 volt option. A machine built for 200 volts or for 60 hertz needs a version made for the supply it will run on.
- Check the rating plate against the supply before a new machine is switched on.
- A multi-group machine on a shared circuit needs a circuit rated for it. A café adding a second machine should have the load checked first.
- The manual says to confirm the drain tray is connected to the drain. Keep the mains water tap within reach, because the first step in the manual's table is checking it is open.

If a newly installed Astoria trips the breaker, we measure the supply first.

## Shot problems: what the grind does

The malfunction table points at the grind more often than at any other cause. A barista can use it as a small map.

| What you see | Grind direction in the manual's table |
| --- | --- |
| Nothing dispensed | Too fine |
| Shot too slow | Too fine |
| Shot too fast | Too coarse |
| Coffee at the wrong temperature | Too fine, among other causes (a dirty or cold group, stale coffee) |
| Wet grounds | Uneven grind, among other causes (holder, filter holes, filter edge) |
| Wrong dose | Grind setting |

- Change the grinder setting by one step, pour a shot, and write down the result before touching it again.
- Check the dose. The Storm manual gives about 6 to 7 grams and suggests checking it regularly with the fineness. Excess powder in the doser suggests the coffee is going stale.
- Fresh coffee matters. The table lists stale coffee as a cause of shots at the wrong temperature.
- If a shot is wrong at every grind setting, the cause is not the grind. Check the filter, the group and then the pump pressure.

We are happy to set the grinder and dose for your blend during a visit, and to write the settings on a card for the bar.

## Steam wand care and milk

Steam faults come up four times in the manual's table: no steam, wet steam, water from the nozzles and an autosteamer button that flashes. The wand is the easiest part for a barista to look after.

- After each use, wipe the wand with a cloth dampened in lukewarm water, as the Storm manual says, and clear the outlet holes with a small needle.
- Once a week, soak the wand in water with a suitable cleaner, heat it and let it cool submerged for at least five minutes. Repeat two or three times until no milk residue comes out.
- For autosteamer tips, wipe with a damp cloth. Changing the autosteamer's temperature or froth settings is a job for a qualified technician.
- If the wand gives water or wet steam, or the machine shows too much water in the heating unit, switch off and message us. Those are hydraulic or electrical faults in the table.

A wand that is blocked with dried milk is a barista fix. A wand that spits water is not.

## The daily group wash, step by step

The Storm manual describes the wash from the menu. Other models differ in their buttons, so treat this as the pattern.

1. **Open the wash menu**: The machine may prompt a daily wash. You can cancel the prompt, which we advise against.
2. **Press Perform wash**: Coffee selections for that group are disabled while it runs.
3. **Fit the blind filter holder**: Put detergent in it, lock it into the group and press Start.
4. **Remove and refit for the rinse**: When the wash ends, remove the blind holder, insert it again for the rinse and press End.
5. **Scrub the group**: Use the supplied brush on the coupling ring, the holder edge and its wings to remove coffee residue.

The same manual lists a cold or dirty group as a cause of coffee at the wrong temperature, so a missed wash shows up in the cup.

## Habits that cause trouble

These come from the cautions and rules in the Storm manual and the malfunction table.

- Using alkaline cleaners, solvents, alcohol or other aggressive products. The manual forbids them.
- Hosing the machine or immersing it. The manual forbids water jets.
- Soaking the handle of a filter holder. The manual says to immerse only the cup.
- Cancelling the daily group wash night after night.
- Ignoring a regeneration warning on the softener.
- Leaving the burr counter alone. The Storm manual gives kilogram figures for replacement.
- Restarting a machine that shows a hydraulic or pump fault. The table says to switch off and message us.

Each one is cheap to correct and expensive to ignore.

## Planning burr replacement from your daily volume

The Storm manual gives replacement at about 400 to 500 kilograms of coffee for flat burrs and 800 to 900 kilograms for conical burrs. Those are volumes, not days, so how soon you reach them depends on the bar. The arithmetic below divides the manual's figures by a daily volume. It is a planning guide, not a promise, and a technician should read the actual wear.

| Coffee ground per day | Flat burrs (400 to 500 kg) | Conical burrs (800 to 900 kg) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 5 kg | 80 to 100 days | 160 to 180 days |
| 10 kg | 40 to 50 days | 80 to 90 days |
| 20 kg | 20 to 25 days | 40 to 45 days |

- Keep a running total in the log. The Storm manual lets a technician enable a wear warning and reset its counter.
- In our view, a grind that keeps drifting is a reason to have the burrs looked at before the figure is reached.
- Grinding for a hotel breakfast and for a café are different workloads, so use your own number.

If you cannot tell what your daily volume is, count the bags you open in a week and divide.

## The rows where the manual tells you to call

Many rows in the table end the same way: switch off and call the technician. Knowing them in advance saves a barista from trying to cure what cannot be cured at the bar.

- Too much water in the heating unit.
- Water, or steam mixed with water, from the steam nozzles.
- A display showing non-conforming pressure.
- Electronics that have shut down.
- Water leaking from the pump, a noisy pump, or a pump below nominal flow.
- A motor that stops suddenly or a thermal protector that trips.

In every one of these, the manual's advice is to switch off. Running the machine to see whether it clears risks making a pump or board fault worse.

## Buying a used Astoria: what to check

A second-hand Astoria can be good value, and the manual's own tables tell you what to look at. This list is ours.

- Read the rating plate and match the voltage and frequency to your supply.
- Ask for the service history, including heating unit water changes and the softener.
- Look at the drain tray and its pipe. Water on the counter is the manual's first leak complaint.
- Run a shot on each group and steam milk. Check the heating unit and brewing pressures against the manual's figures.
- Ask how many kilograms the burrs have ground.
- Check the group gasket and shower screen for wear.

Send us the model code and the seller's photos if you want a view on what a fault would cost.

## Parts we fit on Astoria machines

| Part | Job in the machine | What you notice when it wears |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Group gasket and shower screen | Seal the portafilter and spread the water | Wet grounds, leaking at the group |
| Filters and baskets | Hold the dose | Wet grounds, grounds in cups, uneven flow |
| Steam valve, wand and sprayer | Make steam | Weak steam, water from the wand |
| Three-way valve | Release pressure after the shot | Wet pucks, dripping after the shot |
| Pump and motor | Create the brewing pressure | Noise, leaks, low pressure, protector trips |
| Heating element and sensors | Heat the boiler and groups | Cold coffee, temperature faults |
| Level probe and solenoid valves | Fill the boiler and direct the water | Too much or no water in the heating unit |
| Drain pipe and tray connection | Carry waste water away | Water on the counter |
| Grinder burrs and doser | Grind and dose | Uneven grind, wrong dose |
| Control board and push-button panels | Run the machine | Flashing LEDs, shutdowns |

Every part is genuine. For an older Astoria whose part is no longer made, you hear that before the quote.

## A weekly routine for the bar

This routine is ours, laid over the Storm manual's intervals.

| When | Job |
| --- | --- |
| Opening | Check the pressure gauge or display, the steam, the first shot and the drain tray |
| Closing | Wash the groups with the blind filter and detergent, soak the filters overnight, scrub the group, wipe the steam wand and clear its holes |
| Weekly | Soak the filters and holders with cleaner, wash the shower screens and rings, run the steam wand soak, check the heating unit and brewing pressure |
| Every three months | Technician replaces the heating unit water and checks the softener |
| By volume | Burrs replaced at the manual's kilogram figure; a log helps |

A tick sheet by the machine takes a minute to fill in and tells us, on a bad day, what was done and when.

## Planned service for an Astoria

Our service plan is built around the manual's own intervals. On each scheduled visit the technician works through the groups, steam system, pump and water treatment, changes the heating unit water when it falls due, measures the pressures and looks at burr wear. You get a written note of what is ageing. A breakdown between visits moves you up the queue, and the terms go in writing.

Pricing follows the number of groups and visits, so we quote it per site.

## What happens when we arrive

1. **Your account**: You describe the fault the way the barista saw it. We ask about the last group wash, filter change and heating unit service.
2. **Plate and connections**: We read the plate and look at the supply, the water tap and the drain.
3. **The manual's first suspects**: Grind, filter, group, drain and steam sprayer come first, because the table starts there.
4. **Pressures**: We compare brewing pressure and heating unit pressure with the figures for the model.
5. **The figure**: We quote before fitting anything.
6. **Shots and steam**: We pour shots, steam milk and watch the drain before we leave.

A job that has to leave your premises comes with a reason and a return time.

## Mend or replace an Astoria?

Astoria gives no guidance on this. Our rule is to price a new machine with the same number of groups and to question the repair once its quote reaches about half.

| Fault | Our usual view | Reason |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Gasket, shower screen, filters | Mend | Routine wear |
| Steam sprayer, valve, wand | Mend | Small parts |
| Three-way valve, solenoid | Mend | Modest parts |
| Pump or motor | Mend | Well below a new machine |
| Boiler or element | Compare | Depends on the part and the age |
| Board on an old machine | Compare | Can approach a new price |

Where a new machine wins, we say so, and the visit fee is all you pay.

## Five checks before you message us

1. **Switch and tap**: Machine on, mains tap open.
2. **Grind**: Change it one step and pour a shot.
3. **Filter and holder**: Clean them and look for worn holes or a chipped edge.
4. **Group**: Wash it with the blind filter and let it heat.
5. **Drain**: Pour water into the tray and see that it leaves.

If the fault is still there, or it was in the pump, boiler or electronics rows of the table, switch off and message us.

## What to tell us when you book

- The model name and the full code on the plate.
- The number of groups and whether the grinder is built in.
- What happens, in the barista's words, and when it began.
- The date of the last group wash, filter change and heating unit service.
- Any maintenance agreement you hold.

If you have tried a step from this page, tell us which.

## While you wait for the technician

If a group, a hose or a connection leaks, close the water supply valve to the machine and switch the machine off at its isolator. Leave the boiler and the panels alone while it is hot.

- Tell your baristas which group or steam wand is out of use, so nobody keeps trying it.
- Do not run the group wash again to test it. Show us the machine as it stopped.
- Photograph the plate with the full model code, which we need before we order a part.

## Astoria service near me: areas we cover

We look after Astoria machines in cafés, restaurants and hotels across Dubai Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, JLT, Downtown, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Dubai Hills and Deira. For another area, message us and we will tell you what is possible.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does an Astoria service call cost in Dubai?

AED 100 plus VAT for the diagnosis, then mostly AED 80 to AED 400 for the repair, agreed before we start.

### Is there an Astoria service centre in Dubai?

Astoria's site names no Middle East distributor or service network. We are independent of Astoria and can usually attend the same day.

### Why is no steam coming from my Astoria?

The manual lists a machine that is switched off, and a clogged nozzle sprayer. Clean the sprayer with a small needle and wipe the nozzle. If water or wet steam comes out instead, switch off and message us.

### Why is there water on the counter?

The manual's first causes are a tray that is not draining and a drain pipe that is broken, detached or blocked. Check the sewer drain and reconnect the pipe to the tray.

### Why are the grounds wet in the portafilter?

The manual lists a dirty filter holder, worn filter holes, an uneven grind and a damaged filter edge. Clean the holder, replace the filter and change the grind.

### Why is my coffee coming out too fast or too slow?

Astoria's table points to the grind. Too coarse is fast, too fine is slow. Change the grinder setting one step and pour a shot.

### How do I wash the groups?

On the Storm, open the wash menu, press Perform wash, put detergent in the blind filter holder, lock it into the group, press Start, then rinse and press End. Check your own manual for your model.

### What cleaner should I use?

The Storm manual says to use only cleaners supplied by Astoria or made for professional coffee machines, and not alkaline cleaners, solvents or alcohol.

### How often should burrs be replaced?

The Storm manual gives about 400 to 500 kilograms of coffee for flat burrs and 800 to 900 kilograms for conical burrs.

### What pressure should an Astoria run at?

The Storm manual gives 0.8 to 1.4 bar in the heating unit and 8 to 9 bar while dispensing.

### Does an Astoria work on Dubai's supply?

The Storm manual lists 200 volt, 220/380 volt and 240/415 volt versions at 50 to 60 hertz. Dubai's 400 volt three-phase fits the 240/415 volt version. Check the plate.

### Mend or replace?

Group, filter, valve and pump work normally pays off. A boiler or board on an old machine deserves a comparison with a new one first.
