A La Marzocco is a familiar sight on café bars and in serious home kitchens. It is built to run all day, and it is built to be serviced: the parts are standard, the manual lays out a maintenance calendar and the company expects someone to follow it. When one of these machines misbehaves, it is rarely a mystery. It is usually a gasket that has outlived its three months, a steam assembly that wanted a rebuild or water that did not meet the specification.

This page is for owners and managers of La Marzocco machines in Dubai: the Linea Classic and Linea PB on café bars, the GS3, Strada and KB90, and the Linea Mini and Micra at home. It sets out what the manufacturer's own manual says about maintenance and safety, which faults we are asked about, and how we fit around La Marzocco's own presence in the city.

A technician from our team can be at your door the same day. You get a price before any part is fitted, and the repair is done on site wherever the machine allows it.

## La Marzocco repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

The first call-out is AED 100 plus 5% VAT and covers finding the fault. A repair, if you want one, is priced on top at AED 80 to AED 400 for most La Marzocco jobs. Decline it and that is the end of the bill.

- A technician can usually be with you the same day. Send us the model and the symptom on WhatsApp.
- We fit genuine components and quote parts and labour as one number.
- Cafés go to the front of the queue, because a dead machine on a busy morning loses sales.
- Each part we install is covered for one month.

Typical La Marzocco work from cheapest to dearest. Only a quote gives the actual price.

| Job | Where it sits in the range |
| --- | --- |
| Group gaskets and diffuser screens | Lower end |
| Backflush, detergent clean and flush | Lower end |
| Steam wand tip, steam valve seal | Lower end |
| Portafilter baskets | Lower end |
| Auto-fill probe clean, water inlet valve check | Lower to middle |
| Steam assembly rebuild | Middle |
| Pressostat or pressure switch | Middle |
| Pump or motor | Middle |
| Expansion valve or over-pressure valve | Middle |
| Solenoid, MP valve rebuild | Middle |
| Flowmeter or volumetric dosing fault (AV models) | Middle to upper |
| Heating element | Upper end |
| Control board or display | Upper end |
| Boiler strip-down and descale | Upper end |

The cheap jobs at the top of the list are the ones that a maintenance calendar prevents. The dear jobs at the bottom are what a missed calendar produces.

## Which La Marzocco do you have?

You will find the model name on the front and a data plate on the body. Send us a photo of the plate and the right parts come with the technician.

| Model | What it is | What we could confirm from sources |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Linea PB | A professional machine for cafés, in automatic volumetric (AV) and mechanical paddle (MP) versions | The manufacturer's manual: cleaning, service schedule, water specification, warnings |
| Linea Classic | The long-running professional machine, with a built-in water purifier on some set-ups | The manufacturer's manual: safety rules, weekly resin regeneration for the purifier |
| Linea Mini and Micra | Home machines | A retailer's pages: water advice and a note on scale. |
| GS3, Strada, KB90 | Other professional and prosumer machines | We repair these. Check your manual for the boiler layout |
| Grinders | La Marzocco grinders | We repair burrs, motors and switches |

A Linea PB and a Linea Mini share a name and a badge and very little else. The first is a commercial machine with its own service schedule. The second is a home machine, and its owner's manual and warranty are a different document. Tell us the exact model so we start from the right one.

## Who looks after your La Marzocco in Dubai?

La Marzocco has its own presence in the UAE. Its UAE website lists La Marzocco Middle East DMCC, a showroom at Shop 4, 80 Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, demos by booking and a machine support portal. Neither describes a repair or service offering. Ask them.

That matters because of what the manual says. The Linea PB manual states that any repairs must be performed exclusively by the manufacturer or by an authorised centre, using original parts. It also says the periodic maintenance operations in its schedule are not covered by warranty. If your machine is under warranty, on a service package, or leased from a supplier, speak to them first and keep the paperwork straight.

| Your situation | Who to call |
| --- | --- |
| New machine under warranty | La Marzocco Middle East or the dealer who sold it |
| On a service package or supplier agreement | The party named in the agreement |
| Out of warranty, or a gap while you wait for an authorised visit | Us |
| Used machine from abroad | Check the plate voltage, then us |
| Café down and you need espresso today | Message us and say so |

We are independent of La Marzocco. Where your machine belongs with them, you will hear it from us before we open the casing. Work done outside an agreement can put cover at risk, and that decision is yours.

## How a commercial La Marzocco works, and why that helps with diagnosis

- Water comes from the mains through a filter or purifier, and an inlet valve fills the boiler. A probe in the boiler tells the machine when to stop filling. The manual lists the auto-fill probe and the water inlet valve among the parts to inspect every three to four months.
- A heating element warms the boiler water. A pressostat reads steam pressure and switches the element.
- A pump pushes water to the groups for brewing. On AV models a flowmeter counts the water so the machine can dose each shot. The manual tells the technician to check the shot volumes and the flowmeter resistance on AV machines.
- Each group has a gasket, a diffuser screen and a plunger. The gasket seals the portafilter and the screen spreads the water.
- An expansion valve relieves pressure from the brew circuit. The manual says that if the brew pressure goes above 12 bar the cap is loosened slightly, and if that is not enough, the valve is removed and cleared of calcium.
- An over-pressure valve is the last safety. The manual says to replace it yearly.
- Steam assemblies and a hot water tap serve the milk and tea. The manual puts a rebuild of the steam assemblies at every six to eight months.

With that picture, a fault points at a short list of parts. A leak at the portafilter points at the gasket. No shot volume on an AV machine points at the flowmeter. Pressure above the normal band points at the expansion valve.

## The manufacturer's service schedule: preventative maintenance on a La Marzocco

The question people type into a search box is what preventative maintenance a La Marzocco needs. The Linea PB manual answers it in a table. It says these operations should be carried out by a qualified technician, and that they are not covered by warranty.

| Interval | What the manual lists |
| --- | --- |
| Every 3 to 4 months | Replace group gaskets and diffuser screens. Clean the auto-fill probe. Inspect the water inlet valve and the drain system. Check flow rate, brew temperature, brew pressure (9 bar) and the condition of the filter baskets. On MP models, check the MP valve seal. On AV models, check shot volumes and flowmeter resistance |
| Every 6 to 8 months | Everything above, plus a rebuild of the steam assemblies |
| Yearly | Replace portafilter baskets. Inspect group plungers, the vacuum breaker, boiler safety switches, the steam pressostat, the contactor and the expansion valve. Replace the over-pressure valve. Rebuild the MP valve on MP models |
| Every 3 years | Inspect the boiler interiors and rinse them with a food-safe cleaning product if needed |

A fuse of a different rating is not a repair.

### How to use the schedule

- Write the dates of each service in a log kept next to the machine.
- Book the three-to-four-month visit before it falls due, so that it lands on a quiet day.
- Bundle the gaskets, screens and baskets into the visit, since the manual lists them together.
- Ask the technician for the readings: brew temperature, brew pressure and shot volumes. A drift from one visit to the next is the early warning.
- Treat the three-year boiler inspection as a booked job, and not as something you do when there is a problem.

We offer service visits and plans on this timetable for cafés and restaurants. Ask when you book. If your machine is on a plan with someone else, keep to theirs.

## The daily and weekly routine, from the manual

| Task | What the manual says | How often |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Group and drain wells | Put a tablespoon of coffee-machine detergent in the blind filter, lock it in and run the group's cleaning cycle. AV models use the automatic backflush. MP models brew for 3 seconds and repeat ten times per group | Regularly, as your routine sets |
| Rinse after cleaning | Fit a normal filter and run hot water through each group several times, then pull and discard one cup | After each detergent clean |
| Filter baskets | Soak for about 30 minutes in 2 to 3 teaspoons of detergent dissolved in about half a litre of boiled water, rinse thoroughly and flush | Regularly |
| Portafilters | Wash with hot water and a brush. A neutral detergent can be used | Regularly |
| Diffuser screens | Unscrew the screw, soak the screen and screw in the same detergent solution for about 30 minutes, rinse, refit and run hot water | Regularly |
| Steam wands | Wipe with a damp cloth right after use and purge with a short burst of steam | After every use |
| Hot water nozzle | Clean with a damp cloth | Periodically |
| Drain tray and collector | Remove the grate and clean the collector and drain box | At least twice a week |
| Body | Wipe stainless steel with a soft non-abrasive cloth. No alcohol or solvents on painted or printed parts | As needed |

### After a long idle period

The manual gives a flush routine after more than eight hours idle. Run each group for at least two minutes with the portafilters fitted. Run each steam wand for at least one minute. Run hot water through the hot water tap, at least 1 litre on a one-and-a-half group machine, 2 litres on a three-group machine and 3 litres on a four-group machine. In a café this is the first thing each morning.

### Safety lines worth repeating

- The machine must not be dipped in water or splashed with water in order to clean it.
- Water above 52 degrees Celsius (125 degrees Fahrenheit) can cause severe burns.
- Never remove the filter holder while water is being delivered.
- Turn the main switch off and disconnect the power before any maintenance or cleaning.
- Hazardous voltage is present inside. Disconnect before servicing.
- For a long shutdown, disconnect the machine from the water mains and the electrical supply.
- Do not install or store the machine where the water in the boiler or pipes could freeze.

## Water: what the manuals say

Almost every serious La Marzocco fault starts with water. The manuals and the retailers agree on that, though their figures differ because they describe different machines.

| Source | Machine | What it says |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Linea PB manual (manufacturer) | Commercial | Water hardness between 9 and 15 degrees French, pH 6.5 to 8.5, chlorides below 50 mg/l. Filtration is required if these are not met |
| Linea Classic manual (manufacturer) | Commercial | A water purifier of the ion exchange resin type for softening. The resins must be regenerated weekly following the labels on the purifier |
| Clive Coffee (retailer) | Linea Mini | Test your water, filter and soften it to 35 to 85 ppm to avoid scale and damage. Reverse osmosis or distilled water lacks enough minerals and can cause issues |
| Coffee Parts (retailer) | Linea Mini | The saturated group is more sensitive to scale than an E61 group. Once scale passes what home descaling can fix, the boiler needs a workshop strip-down |

Read the figures against the machine they describe. A commercial Linea and a home Mini do not share a water specification, so take yours from the manual for your model. Nine to fifteen degrees French is roughly 90 to 150 ppm as calcium carbonate, which sits higher than the Mini's advice.

### Water that is too hard, and water that is too soft

- Hard water scales the boiler, the element, the valves and the group.
- A retailer's note on the Mini warns that reverse osmosis or distilled water lacks enough minerals and can cause issues.
- Neither extreme is a safe default. Test the water, and fix the filter to match the specification.

For a café, the weekly resin regeneration on a purifier is a job that gets forgotten. Put it in the calendar. A purifier that is overdue passes hard water straight to the boiler.

## Common La Marzocco faults

What follows is how these faults usually trace back to the parts in the service schedule.

### Water leaks from the portafilter

The group gasket has hardened or worn, or the diffuser screen is dirty. The manual puts the gaskets and screens on a three-to-four-month cycle, so a gasket past that point is the first suspect.

### Espresso is slow, fast or uneven

Check the grind and the basket first. If those are right, the diffuser screen may be blocked, the gasket worn, or the pump pressure off. The manual lists a brew pressure of 9 bar among the items to check at each service. A change in brew pressure or flow rate is a pump or valve question.

### Brew pressure rises above the normal band

The manual says that if the pressure exceeds 12 bar, the expansion valve is adjusted by loosening its cap slightly. If that does not help, the valve is removed and cleared of calcium deposits. A valve choked with scale points at the water.

### Weak or irregular steam

The wand tip may be blocked with milk. If it is clear, the steam assembly may be due its six-to-eight-month rebuild, or the pressostat may be drifting. Steam that is weak across the day is a boiler, element or pressostat matter.

### The shot volume is wrong on an AV machine

The manual lists shot volumes and flowmeter resistance as checks on AV models. A shot that no longer matches its programme points at the flowmeter, a leak, a worn gasket or a blocked screen.

### The machine will not fill, or overfills

The auto-fill probe may be dirty, which is why the manual lists cleaning it at every three-to-four-month service. The inlet valve may also be at fault. Switch the machine off if the boiler keeps filling.

### No heat, or the machine trips

A tripped safety switch, a failed element, a pressostat fault or a blown fuse can all do this. The manual says fuses must be replaced with the same size, type and rating. Do not bypass a safety switch.

### Water under the machine

A drain box that is full, a failed seal, a loose fitting or a leaking valve. The manual says to clean the drain tray and collector at least twice a week. If the drains are clear, a technician should trace the leak.

## Running a café on a La Marzocco: keeping downtime short

- Keep a log: the dates of each service, each gasket change and each purifier regeneration.
- Keep spare gaskets, diffuser screens and baskets on site. They are the parts most often needed.
- Know where the machine's isolating switch and water shut-off are, and make sure the staff do too.
- Pull a test shot and check the pressure at opening. Write down the reading.
- If a fault appears mid-service, switch off the affected group if the machine allows, and message us with the symptom.
- Ask us for a service plan on the manual's timetable, so that the visits are booked and the gaskets arrive before they fail.

When a café machine is down, tell us at once. We give those calls priority.

## A service calendar for one year

Here is the manual's schedule laid out as a calendar for a café machine, starting from a service in January. Shift the months to match your own start date.

| Month | Visit | Work from the manual's schedule |
| --- | --- | --- |
| January | Full service | Gaskets, diffuser screens, auto-fill probe, inlet valve and drains, readings of flow, temperature, pressure and baskets |
| April | Service | The same list, with the readings compared against January |
| July | Service with steam rebuild | The same list, plus a rebuild of the steam assemblies (6 to 8 months from the January visit) |
| October | Service | The same list again |
| The following January | Annual service | The same list, new portafilter baskets, a check of the plungers, vacuum breaker, safety switches, steam pressostat, contactor and expansion valve, and a new over-pressure valve |

Every third year, add an inspection of the boiler interiors. A busy café may want the three-to-four-month visits more often in summer, when the machine works longest. The manual gives the minimum, and the log shows if you need more.

## Reading your readings

A service that records brew pressure, brew temperature, flow rate and shot volumes gives you something to compare. The manual names those items for a reason: a drift in any of them tells you about a part before the part fails.

| Reading drifts | What it may mean | Action |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brew pressure falls from 9 bar | Worn pump, a leaking valve or a blocked screen | Book the next service early |
| Brew pressure rises above 9 bar | Expansion valve not relieving pressure, or a flow restriction | Check the expansion valve. Above 12 bar, the manual says to loosen its cap slightly |
| Brew temperature wanders | Scale, a sensor or a thermostat fault | Check the water and the controls |
| Flow rate slows | A blocked screen, worn gasket or pump wear | Replace gaskets and screens, then re-test |
| Shot volumes differ from the programme (AV) | Flowmeter, leak or restriction | Check flowmeter resistance |
| Recovery after steaming is slow | Scaled element, pressostat or heater | Look at the water and the heating path |

The numbers matter less than the direction. A machine that reads 9 bar every visit is healthy. A machine that reads 9.0, then 8.6, then 8.1 is telling you something.

## A La Marzocco at home: the Mini and the Micra

A home La Marzocco has a smaller job and a different manual. Our sources for the Linea Mini are retailer pages, and the manufacturer's own manual is the document to rely on for yours.

- A retailer's page for the Linea Mini says to test the water, filter it and soften it to 35 to 85 ppm to avoid scale and damage, and warns that reverse osmosis or distilled water lacks enough minerals and can cause issues.
- Another retailer's note says the Mini's saturated group is more sensitive to scale than an E61 group because the boiler-to-group connection is direct, and that once scale passes what home descaling can fix, the boiler needs a workshop strip-down.
- That retailer names a descaler made for these machines and says the steam boiler is handled separately from the brew boiler. Follow the manual for yours.
- A home machine is used less than a café machine, so its gaskets last longer. Replace them when the portafilter leaks or shots turn uneven.

If your home machine is under warranty, go to the dealer or La Marzocco Middle East first.

## A five-minute opening and closing routine

These are the manual's own habits, shaped into a routine a barista can follow.

### Opening

1. **Check the water**: Confirm the purifier or filter is in date, and that the supply is on.
2. **Flush after idle**: If the machine has been idle more than eight hours, run each group for two minutes with the portafilters fitted, each steam wand for a minute, and hot water through the tap.
3. **Read the pressure**: Look at the gauge and at the first shot's flow.
4. **Pull a test shot**: Taste it, time it and discard it if it is off.

### Closing

1. **Clean the groups**: Run the group cleaning routine with the blind filter and detergent as often as your routine says.
2. **Rinse**: Fit a normal filter and run hot water through each group.
3. **Wipe and purge the wands**: Damp cloth, short burst of steam.
4. **Clear the drain**: Empty the drain tray and collector. The manual says at least twice a week.
5. **Wipe the body**: Soft non-abrasive cloth. No alcohol or solvents on painted parts.

Five minutes at each end of the day costs less than a service call.

## Installation, power and access

The manuals have several rules about where and how a machine is set up. They affect how easily it can be serviced, and so how cheaply.

- Install the machine so that qualified technicians can reach it easily for maintenance. A machine boxed into a counter costs more to service.
- Installation must be done by qualified and authorised personnel, according to the Linea Classic manual.
- The power supply cable must not be replaced by users. If it is damaged, a qualified professional replaces it.
- Do not block the air intake and exhaust grilles, and keep the cup warmer tray free of cloths.
- Do not clean the control panel with a wet cloth, since it is not watertight.
- The Linea PB manual describes the machine as for professional use only, and says children must not operate it.
- If the machine malfunctions, disconnect it, close the water supply tap and do not attempt repairs.

When we visit, we check access, the isolating switch and the water shut-off as well as the machine. A café that can switch off power and water in seconds loses less to a leak.

## Parts we fit on La Marzocco machines

| Part | What it does | Sign of wear |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Group gasket and diffuser screen | Seal the portafilter and spread the water | Leaks at the portafilter, uneven flow |
| Portafilter baskets | Hold the coffee | Uneven extraction, worn edges |
| Auto-fill probe | Tells the machine when to stop filling the boiler | Overfill, no fill, dirty probe |
| Water inlet valve | Lets water into the boiler | Slow fill, leaks, no fill |
| Pump and motor | Push water to the groups | Low pressure, noise |
| Expansion valve | Relieves brew pressure | Pressure above the band |
| Over-pressure valve | Last safety against pressure | Replace yearly per the manual |
| Pressostat | Reads steam pressure and switches the element | Steam pressure drifts, overheating |
| Flowmeter (AV) | Counts the water for each shot | Wrong shot volumes |
| MP valve and seal (MP) | Releases brew pressure on MP models | Wet pucks, drips |
| Steam assembly | Gives steam | Weak or leaking steam |
| Heating element | Heats the boiler | No heat, slow recovery |
| Boiler safety switches and contactor | Protect and switch the heater | Tripping, dead heat |
| Control board and display | Run the machine | Random behaviour, no response |

Every part is genuine. If La Marzocco has stopped making one for an older machine, we say so before giving you a price.

## What a La Marzocco visit includes

- We ask about the symptom and read the service log, if you keep one.
- We check the water quality and the purifier or filter, since so many faults start there.
- We take readings: brew pressure, brew temperature, flow rate and shot volumes.
- We look at the gaskets, screens, baskets and plungers.
- We open the steam path and test the pressostat.
- We check the drains, the inlet valve and the auto-fill probe.
- You receive one price before we fit a part.
- After the repair we pull test shots, steam milk and record the readings for your log.
- Our work carries a month of cover.

A visit on the manual's timetable looks the same, with the items for that interval added.

## Repair or replace a La Marzocco?

Put the quote beside the price of a similar new machine. A repair that approaches half that figure makes replacement worth considering. On a La Marzocco the repair almost never gets near it, because the machines are made to be rebuilt.

| Fault | Our usual advice | Reason |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Gasket, screen or basket wear | Repair | Standard consumables |
| Steam assembly tired | Repair | The manual schedules a rebuild |
| Valve, pressostat or pump | Repair | Standard parts |
| Flowmeter or volumetric fault | Repair | A defined part |
| Boiler scaled badly | Compare the quote | A strip-down can cost more on an old machine |
| Element or board on a very old machine | Compare the quote | Check the cost against the machine's value |
| Machine frozen, flooded or damaged | Case by case | We assess before quoting |

Where buying new is the better move, we will tell you, and you will have paid the call-out only.

## What to tell us when you book

- The model name and, if you can, a photo of the plate.
- The fault, and when it started.
- The last service date and what was done.
- Your water set-up: mains, filter, purifier or softener.
- Whether the machine is under warranty or a service agreement.

If you have already tried something from this page, say what, and we will carry on from that point.

## Frequently asked questions

### Who repairs La Marzocco machines in Dubai?

La Marzocco Middle East has a Dubai showroom, and you should contact them first if your machine is under warranty or a service package. We also repair La Marzocco machines at your café or home, usually the same day, on WhatsApp at +971 55 209 9785.

### How much does La Marzocco repair cost in Dubai?

Expect AED 100 plus VAT for the visit and AED 80 to AED 400 for most repairs. We do not fit anything until you agree the figure.

### What preventative maintenance does a La Marzocco need?

The Linea PB manual lists a schedule. Every 3 to 4 months replace group gaskets and diffuser screens and check the readings. Every 6 to 8 months rebuild the steam assemblies. Yearly replace baskets and the over-pressure valve. Every 3 years inspect the boiler interiors.

### Is preventative maintenance covered by the warranty?

The Linea PB manual says the periodic maintenance operations are not covered by warranty.

### How often should group gaskets be replaced?

The manual says every 3 to 4 months on the commercial Linea PB.

### What water does a La Marzocco need?

For the Linea PB, the manual states hardness between 9 and 15 degrees French, pH 6.5 to 8.5 and chlorides below 50 mg/l, with filtration if these are not met. A retailer advises 35 to 85 ppm for the Linea Mini.

### How do I backflush a La Marzocco?

The manual's routine puts a tablespoon of detergent in the blind filter and runs the group's cleaning cycle: the automatic backflush on AV models, or 3-second brews repeated ten times per group on MP models. Then rinse with a normal filter and discard a cup.

### Why is the brew pressure above 9 bar?

The manual checks 9 bar at service. If it exceeds 12 bar, the expansion valve cap is loosened slightly, and if that is not enough, the valve is cleared of calcium.

### Can I clean the machine with water?

No. The manual states the machine must not be dipped in or splashed with water in order to clean it.

### What should I do first thing each morning?

After more than eight hours idle, the manual says to run each group for at least two minutes with portafilters fitted, each steam wand for a minute and a litre or more of hot water.

### Will using an independent repairer void my warranty?

The manual says repairs must be done by the manufacturer or an authorised centre. If your machine is under warranty, ask La Marzocco Middle East or your dealer before anyone else opens it.

### Is it worth repairing an old La Marzocco?

Usually yes. The machines are built to be rebuilt, and most faults come down to gaskets, valves and steam parts. Compare the quote with a new machine only for a boiler or board on a very old unit.
