Moccamaster is the Dutch filter coffee maker with no screen, no programme menu and a reputation for lasting decades. A cold-water reservoir with a glass tube, a heating element, an outlet arm that drips over a brew basket, a carafe on a hotplate: that is nearly the whole machine. The simplicity is why Moccamaster's own troubleshooting list is short. Scale slows the brew. A missing footplate lets the basket overflow. A carafe that is not seated leaves the power light on and the pot empty.

This page works through that list using Moccamaster's support articles and manuals, mostly the US ones, together with an older European manual, a European retailer's descaling article and UAE retailer listings. Those sources do not agree with each other on descaling or on the warranty term, so the page sets them side by side instead of picking one. Where they say nothing, for example what to do when the brewer is dead and descaling is not the answer, we say so.

Message us and a technician comes to your home or office, with same-day visits available. You are told what is wrong and what it costs before anything is replaced. If the brewer has to go to the workshop, we collect it, but fixing it at your address is always the first plan.

## Moccamaster repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

The diagnostic visit costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT. If a repair follows, it is quoted between AED 80 and AED 400 depending on the fault, and nothing is started until you agree to the price.

- Tell us the model name, such as KBG, KBGT, CD Grand, Cup-One or Select, and the colour if you remember it.
- Parts are genuine and the labour is included in the quoted price.
- One month of warranty covers the part and the work we did.
- We start at your address. Jobs that cannot be finished there go to the workshop.

| Fault | What we check or replace | Where it sits in the range |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brew takes much longer than it used to | Water flow through the brewer, then a proper descale | Lower to middle |
| Power light on, no coffee | Carafe contact, water path, heating element and its protection | Lower to upper |
| Brew basket overflows or coffee runs down the side | Drip-stop, footplate, bracket arm, basket | Lower end |
| Power light will not come on | Plug, cord, switch, internal protection | Lower to middle |
| Hotplate stays on or does not heat | Hotplate switch, auto-off timer, hotplate element | Lower to middle |
| Thermal carafe does not keep coffee hot | Carafe vacuum seal, which points to a replacement carafe | Quote after inspection |
| Coffee tastes weak or bitter | Brew temperature, water flow, grind and dose | Lower to middle |
| Brewer dead after a power or voltage problem | Cord, switch, element and thermal protection | Lower to upper |

When a quote would come close to the price of a new brewer, we tell you before we start, and you decide.

## Which Moccamaster do you have?

| Family | What the sources say about it |
| --- | --- |
| KB and KBG 10-cup | The KBG Select manual gives a 1.25 litre capacity. Moccamaster's overflow article refers to a manual drip-stop switch on the basket |
| KBGT and CDGT | Thermal carafe versions. The brew basket needs the footplate in place, and the bracket arm has a replacement sold by Moccamaster that fits with a T20 screwdriver |
| CD Grand | The largest size named in the manual, which gives the range as 0.3 litre (Cup-One) up to 1.8 litre (Grand) |
| Cup-One | 0.3 litre single-cup brewer, manual model 69211. The power light stays off until the cool water reservoir has water in it |
| Select | A Desertcart UAE listing for a KBG Select carries model number 53983 |

The model name is printed on the underside or on the box. A photo of the label saves time, and it also tells us the voltage.

## How a Moccamaster is put together, as far as the manuals say

They do name the parts you can see or reach, and every symptom in Moccamaster's troubleshooting list is tied to one of them. That makes the list easy to use: find the part, then read the entry.

| Part | Symptom the manuals tie to it |
| --- | --- |
| Water reservoir and its glass tube | A cloudy glass tube points to scale. An unlit power switch with an empty reservoir is normal |
| Heating element | Mineral build-up here can leave the power light on with no brewing, can affect brewing temperature and can eventually stop the brewer |
| Outlet arm | Water dripping from it very slowly points to scale |
| Brew basket and its drip-stop | Overflow if the manual drip-stop is closed, the filter or grind is wrong, or grounds are in the wrong place |
| Footplate and bracket arm (KBGT, CDGT; bracket arm also on KBG) | Slow basket drain, overflow or coffee drizzling down the bracket if the footplate is missing or the arm has broken tabs |
| Thermal carafe and the white button at the base | No brewing if the carafe is not seated against the button. Cold coffee if the vacuum seal has failed |
| Hotplate | Stays on until switched off, or until the optional auto-off on some models, which the manual puts at 100 minutes |

The one thing the manuals say about opening the brewer is a warning. The KBG Select manual says not to remove the bottom panel, and that doing so voids the warranty.

## The Cup-One: a different brewer with its own entries

The Cup-One makes one cup and has its own manual and troubleshooting table. The entries are close to the 10-cup table but not identical, and two of the differences catch people out.

| Symptom | What the Cup-One manual says |
| --- | --- |
| No power light | The light stays off until the cool water reservoir is filled with water |
| Brew cycle too long | Descale when a brew takes more than 4 minutes. The 10-cup threshold is 6 minutes |
| Basket overflows | A clogged tiny hole in the bottom of the brew basket is a listed cause. The manual says to clear it with the brush or a toothpick |
| Slow drip or cloudy glass tube | Descale |

The shorter threshold matters because a Cup-One brew that takes five minutes is a descale case by its own manual, while five minutes for a full carafe on a 10-cup brewer is inside the normal range.

## Voltage and what UAE retailers list

The KBG Select manual says only to check that the voltage of the machine matches your mains voltage. The voltage figures here come from UAE retailer listings, and they are the retailers' statements, not Moccamaster's.

| Source | What it says | What kind of source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| F A J Trading L.L.C, Al Quoz, Dubai, listing a KBGT | 220-240 V, 1,450 W, 5-year manufacturer's warranty. The listing describes a UK power plug on the UK-market version | UAE retailer |
| Desertcart UAE, KBG Select, model 53983 | 240 volts. Wattage and plug not stated; no warranty stated; 15-day returns | UAE retailer |
| KBG Select manual (Moccamaster USA) | Check that the voltage matches your mains voltage | Moccamaster manual |

- Read the plate on the underside before you plug in. A brewer made for the UAE supply shows 220-240 V or similar.
- A brewer made for a lower voltage needs a step-down transformer rated above its wattage.
- UAE wall sockets take the UK-style three-pin plug, so a UK-market brewer fits without an adapter. A plug that fits tells you nothing about the voltage, so read the plate.
- If a brewer died the first time it was plugged in, do not try it again. Message us.

## Moccamaster warranty and service: what applies in Dubai

| Source | What it says |
| --- | --- |
| Moccamaster USA warranty article | New brewers: five years from the original purchase date. Refurbished brewers: one year. The brewer is covered; carafes and replaceable parts are excluded. Proof of purchase is required. Failure to descale or properly maintain the brewer is excluded. Repairs by anyone other than Moccamaster USA or an authorised service centre are excluded. Territory is not stated |
| KBG Select manual | Five years for a new brewer, issued by Technivorm-Moccamaster USA. Carafe and parts excluded. Lack of descaling excluded. Removing the bottom panel voids the warranty |
| Older European manual (a PDF from Coffee Circle) | The English text says five years, while the French and Dutch headings say three. Limescale damage is excluded in the Dutch and French versions |
| UAE retailer listing (KBGT) | States a 5-year manufacturer's warranty and does not name who gives it |

The claim route on the US warranty article is this: contact the retailer within 30 days of purchase, and after that use the repair request form. Have the model, the serial number and the receipt ready. The article gives a US phone number and email, and no UAE contact.

We are an independent technician and not an authorised service partner of Moccamaster. We also cannot tell you whether a brewer bought here carries the US warranty, a European one or only the retailer's cover. Ask the seller in writing which it is.

If your brewer may still be covered, read the exclusion on outside repairs before anyone opens it, and make the claim first. If cover has ended, or nobody can say who stands behind the unit, our one-month warranty covers the part and the work. We are independent of Moccamaster.

## Slow brew: the 6 minute rule and the 4 minute rule

| Model | Normal | When Moccamaster says to descale |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 10-cup models | A full carafe in 4 to 6 minutes (KBG Select manual), some models about 8 | A brew cycle longer than 6 minutes |
| Cup-One | Not stated | A brew cycle longer than 4 minutes |

Moccamaster's support article on the six-minute symptom attributes it to scale and says the brewer may need descaling. It gives no steps and refers you to the manual and a video. The manuals' troubleshooting tables tie two more symptoms to the same cause: water dripping from the outlet arm very slowly, and a cloudy glass tube in the reservoir.

A separate Moccamaster article, on a power light that is on while nothing brews, adds the limit of descaling. It says mineral build-up in the heating element can be the cause, that descaling only works if water can flow through the machine, and that if you suspect build-up you should contact customer service.

That limit is the practical point of this section. Descaling is the first fix. A brewer so scaled that water barely moves will not carry a descaling solution through, and running the same descale again does not change that. At that stage it is a repair, and the work is on the water path before the descale is repeated.

- Time a full brew with a stopwatch once, so you know what normal is on your own machine.
- A brew longer than the threshold for your model, a slow drip from the outlet arm and a cloudy glass tube are three separate signs of the same documented cause.
- The KBG Select manual puts brewing at 196 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit. The manuals describe scale as something that can affect temperature and saturation time, so a slow brew can come with a change in taste.

## Brew basket overflowing, or coffee running down the side

### Causes listed by Moccamaster

1. **Grind too fine**: Use a medium-coarse grind.
2. **Too many grounds**: Use the correct ratio of grounds to water.
3. **Two or more paper filters**: Use one filter.
4. **A reusable mesh filter together with a paper filter**: Use one or the other.
5. **Coffee oil built up on a reusable mesh filter**: Clean the mesh filter thoroughly.
6. **Grounds spilled into the brew basket**: Clean out the brew basket.

### Checks that come before any repair

- On a basket with a manual drip-stop, check that the switch is in the open position.
- On the KBGT and CDGT, check that the footplate is in place. Moccamaster says that without it the basket can drain very slowly, which can make the basket overflow or make coffee drizzle down the bracket in a way that looks like a leak.
- On the KBG, KBGT and CDGT, inspect the bracket arm for broken tabs. Check that it is level and complete. A replacement bracket arm is sold on Moccamaster's website and fits with a T20 screwdriver.
- On the Cup-One, check the tiny hole in the bottom of the brew basket. The manual says to clear it with the brush or a toothpick.

That is the whole documented list. If the grind, the filter, the footplate, the bracket arm and the switch are all right and the basket still backs up, the fault is not in the basket. It is in the flow of water, and a technician should test it at your address.

## Power light on but nothing brews, or no light at all

| Symptom | Cause and fix in Moccamaster's material |
| --- | --- |
| Brewer not working, no lights | Check that the brewer is plugged in (US manual) |
| Power light on, thermal carafe brewer not brewing | The carafe is not seated. Set it snugly against the white button at the base |
| Cup-One: light off | The light stays off until the cool water reservoir is filled. Add water |
| Power light on, no brewing | Mineral build-up in the heating element. Descale if water can still flow; if you suspect build-up that blocks flow, contact customer service |

The KBG Select manual adds that the power switch will not light if there is no water in the reservoir. An unlit switch on an empty tank is therefore normal, and filling the tank comes before suspecting the switch.

A light that comes on with a full tank, a seated carafe and a recent descale is outside the support articles. We test the carafe contact, the switch and the internal protection in that order, then the element.

## Hotplate and thermal carafe

| Problem | What the manual says |
| --- | --- |
| Hotplate stays on after brewing | The brewer has a manual power-off. Switch it off yourself. Some models have an auto-off that cuts the hotplate after 100 minutes |
| Thermal carafe does not keep coffee hot | A defective carafe or damage to the vacuum seal. The manual says to contact an authorised service centre for a replacement carafe |
| Temperatures | The KBG Select manual gives brewing at 196 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit and holding at 175 to 185 |

A vacuum carafe that stopped holding heat is a part, not a repair. We tell you whether we can source one and what it costs before ordering anything. Carafes are excluded from the US warranty, so a replacement is paid for either way.

## Coffee tastes weak or bitter

| Source | What it says |
| --- | --- |
| 10-cup manual | Cause: wrong amount of coffee or wrong grind. Use 2 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 oz of cold water, and use a coarser filter grind |
| Cup-One manual | Same entry as the 10-cup table |
| KBG Select manual | Brewing temperature 196 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit |

If dose and grind are right and the coffee still tastes wrong, the manuals offer nothing beyond descaling. They describe scale as something that can clog flow and affect temperature and saturation time. A brew temperature outside the stated range is a heater question, and we measure it at your address.

## Descaling a Moccamaster: five sources, three answers

| Source | Product and method |
| --- | --- |
| 10-cup manual (model 79314) | Recommends Dezcal by Urnex. After descaling, run two brew cycles with water. Vinegar is not recommended: the manual says it may not descale effectively, can be difficult to rinse and can leave an odour |
| KBG Select manual | Recommends Urnex or Durgol. Descale every 100 cycles or at least every 3 months. Vinegar is not recommended |
| Moccamaster USA article on citric acid | Recommends Urnex Biocaf or Dezcal, both citric acid-based. European partners recommend Durgol, a sulfamic acid product at higher cost. Never use pure citric or pure sulfamic acid, and never a mix that is too weak. The article gives no ratio and no steps |
| Coffee Circle, a European retailer's article | States that the manufacturer recommends Durgol and advises against citric acid-based agents. Names a cloudy glass tube and louder brewing noise as signs of scale |
| Older European manual | Half a litre of water and half a litre of household vinegar, left for at least 30 minutes, then run twice more and rinsed twice. Descale when the scale indicator flashes or the machine hums while brewing |

The sources contradict each other in two places. The US documents say vinegar is not recommended and the older European manual describes a vinegar method. The US support article endorses citric acid-based powders and a European retailer says the manufacturer advises against them. We do not know which document covers your unit, because the UAE listings do not say which market a brewer was made for.

- Follow the pack directions of whatever descaler you use. The US article gives no descaler-to-water ratio.
- Do not use pure acid and do not dilute the product below its pack strength.
- If your own manual is in front of you, follow it. If you have no manual, tell us the model and where it was bought and we will say which document applies.
- Run clear water through afterwards. The 10-cup manual says two brew cycles.

On frequency the US documents agree: every 100 cycles, or at least every three months. Coffee Circle gives no number and names the warning signs above. Because failure to descale is an exclusion in the US warranty, the interval carries a cost if the brewer is under cover.

## Your descale date: what 100 cycles or 3 months means in practice

The KBG Select manual says to descale every 100 cycles or at least every 3 months. Our reading: that means whichever comes first. The table converts it to dates for different households.

| Brews per day | 100 brews reached after | Which limit arrives first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | About 100 days | The 3 month limit, at about 90 days |
| 2 | 50 days | 100 cycles |
| 3 | About 33 days | 100 cycles |
| 4 | 25 days | 100 cycles |
| 8 | About 12 days | 100 cycles |
| 15 | About 7 days | 100 cycles |

- A household making one pot a day reaches the three month mark first.
- A family making three or four brews a day reaches 100 cycles in 25 to 33 days.
- An office brewer making eight or more a day reaches it in under two weeks. That is a recurring job, and it is what a service plan is for.
- Write the date of each descale on a label under the reservoir. Next to it, write how long a full brew took. The brew time is the measurable sign in the manuals.

The counts are cycles, not litres. We assume a Cup-One cup counts as one cycle, and the manuals do not say otherwise.

## How we descale on a visit

This is our own procedure, built on the manuals' steps and thresholds. The manuals give the products, the interval and the rinse. The steps in between are ours.

1. **Model and market**: We read the plate and ask where the brewer was bought, so we know which document is closest to your unit.
2. **Timed brew**: We time a brew with plain water against the 6 minute threshold, or 4 minutes on a Cup-One, and note it.
3. **Flow check**: If water barely moves, Moccamaster's own articles say descaling cannot work, so we deal with the water path first.
4. **Descaler**: We use a product named in the documents for that model and follow its pack directions. We do not use vinegar on a unit whose manual rejects it.
5. **Clear water**: We run clear water through afterwards. The 10-cup manual gives two brew cycles.
6. **Second timed brew**: We time it again. A brew back inside 4 to 6 minutes closes the job.
7. **If the time does not recover**: Scale alone is then not the whole story, and we keep testing the element and the flow.

You get both times at the end of the visit, so you can compare the brewer against the 6 and 4 minute thresholds yourself.

## Cleaning and daily care

- Hand wash the carafe and the brew basket after use. The carafe is not dishwasher safe.
- Check that a reusable mesh filter is clean. Coffee oil on it is a listed cause of overflow.
- Keep to one paper filter at a time, and never combine a paper filter with a mesh filter.

Moccamaster's support list also includes an organic, slimy build-up in the water reservoir. If your reservoir has a film, tell us when you book.

## Safety notes from the manuals

- Check that the machine's voltage matches your mains voltage.
- Unplug the brewer before cleaning.
- Do not submerge the brewer in water.
- Do not remove the brew basket or carafe while brewing.
- The KBG Select manual says: do not remove the bottom panel of the brewer, as doing so will void the warranty.

That last line is why this page stops short of repair instructions. A brewer inside its warranty period belongs with whoever stands behind the warranty. Outside it, a technician with the right meter and parts can work on it safely.

## Where the sources stop and a technician starts

| Situation | What the sources offer | What we do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Dead brewer with a full tank, a seated carafe and a good plug | Check the plug; contact customer service | Test the cord, switch, thermal protection and element |
| Scale so heavy that water barely moves | Descaling works only if water can flow | Work on the water path first, then descale |
| Basket backs up with the right grind, filter and footplate | Nothing further | Test the flow and the way the basket sits |
| Carafe loses heat | Replacement through an authorised service centre | Inspect it and source a carafe if one is available |
| Coffee outside 196 to 205 degrees | Nothing | Measure the brew temperature and test the heater |
| Warranty question | US article with no UAE route | Tell you what we found and suggest you ask your seller |

Moccamaster USA's customer service number is a US one. A technician in Dubai covers the same ground at your door.

## Office and café brewers

A Moccamaster in an office does the same job at a higher count. The 100-cycle limit turns the interval from months into weeks, as the table above shows, and scale reaches the symptoms in the manuals sooner.

- Count the brews for a week to know where you are on the 100-cycle limit.
- Keep the descale log under the reservoir, with the date and the timed brew.
- Keep spare paper filters in the same size, since two filters in the basket is a listed cause of overflow.
- Tell us how many brews run per day when you book. We service commercial brewers under a service plan, and the visit schedule follows the count.

Ask your seller before you assume a brewer in a shared kitchen is covered. We do not quote a service-plan price on this page. Ask us for terms when you message us.

## Buying a Moccamaster second-hand, or imported

The documents give three facts that matter at the point of purchase: a new brewer carries five years from the original purchase date, a refurbished one carries one year, and proof of purchase is required for a claim. The rest of this section is our checklist.

- Read the plate for the voltage. Do not trust the plug, because UK and UAE sockets are the same type.
- Ask for the receipt and the serial number. Without proof of purchase the US warranty article gives you nothing to claim on.
- Ask whether the unit is new or refurbished, because the term differs.
- On a KBGT or CDGT, check that the footplate and the bracket arm are present and the arm has all its tabs.
- Check the glass tube in the reservoir. A cloudy tube is a documented sign of scale.
- Time a full brew with water. Over 6 minutes on a 10-cup brewer, or over 4 on a Cup-One, means a descale before anything else.

If the seller cannot say which market the brewer was made for, treat the warranty as the seller's own and get that in writing.

## What happens on a visit

1. **Message us on WhatsApp**: Give the model name, the symptom and your area.
2. **Arrival**: A technician comes the same day when slots allow.
3. **Plate and socket**: Before anything is opened, the technician reads the plate and checks the socket and any transformer.
4. **Tests**: The technician looks at the carafe contact, the switch, the water flow, the heating element and its protection, and the hotplate.
5. **Price**: The price is stated first, and a part is fitted only with your approval.
6. **Proof**: A carafe is brewed and timed, so you can see the 4 to 6 minutes for yourself.
7. **Warranty**: One month on the part and on the work.

A brewer that needs the workshop is collected, and you are told why and when to expect it back.

## Repair or replace a Moccamaster?

The Moccamaster documents give no guidance on when to stop repairing. This table is ours.

| Fault | Our view |
| --- | --- |
| Scale, a slow water path, a descale that stalled | Worth repairing |
| Footplate, bracket arm or drip-stop fault | Worth repairing or replacing the part |
| Carafe that has lost its vacuum | Replace the carafe if one can be sourced |
| Heating element or thermal protection | Worth pricing on a brewer you want to keep |
| Dead after a power or voltage problem | Test first, because the damage may exceed the brewer's value |
| A brewer under a valid manufacturer warranty | Use the warranty first |

If you buy a new brewer, ask the seller which market it is for, what voltage it is rated for and who gives the warranty.

## Before you message us: a check in order

This order is ours, built from the entries above, and each step takes a minute or two with no tools.

1. **Water and carafe**: Is there water in the reservoir? On a thermal carafe model, is the carafe seated against the white button?
2. **Plug and socket**: The US manual's first entry for a dead brewer is to check the plug.
3. **Basket**: Is the drip-stop open, the filter a single one, the grind medium-coarse and the footplate in place on a KBGT or CDGT?
4. **Timed brew**: Time a full brew. Compare it with 6 minutes, or 4 on a Cup-One.
5. **Descale age**: When was the last descale, which product did you use, and is it older than 100 brews or 3 months?
6. **Glass tube**: Is the tube in the reservoir clear or cloudy?
7. **Stop there**: If none of these changes anything, unplug the brewer and message us. Do not open the bottom panel.

## What to tell us when you book

- The model name and, if you can read it, the number on the plate.
- What the power light does, and how long a brew takes now.
- The last descale and the product used.
- Where the brewer was bought, and the warranty paperwork if you have any.
- Whether a transformer is in use.
- Your area and a good time to visit.

Add what you have already tried so that we do not repeat it.

We repair Moccamaster brewers in Dubai Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, JLT, Downtown, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Dubai Hills and Deira. If you are outside those districts, ask us.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does Moccamaster repair cost in Dubai?

The visit is AED 100 plus 5% VAT. A repair is then quoted between AED 80 and AED 400 depending on the fault, and you approve the price before we start.

### Is there a Moccamaster service centre in Dubai?

We are independent of Moccamaster.

### Why is my Moccamaster brewing so slowly?

Moccamaster attributes a brew cycle longer than 6 minutes (4 on the Cup-One) to scale and says to descale. A slow drip from the outlet arm and a cloudy glass tube are listed with the same cause.

### Why is the brew basket overflowing?

Moccamaster lists too fine a grind, too many grounds, two filters, a mesh filter used with a paper one, oil on a mesh filter and spilled grounds. On a KBGT or CDGT, check that the footplate is in place.

### The power light is on but there is no coffee. Why?

On thermal carafe brewers the carafe may not be seated against the white button. Otherwise mineral build-up in the heating element is the documented cause.

### Can I descale with vinegar?

The US manuals say vinegar is not recommended. An older European manual describes a vinegar and water method. The documents disagree, so check which one belongs to your unit.

### Which descaler should I use?

Moccamaster USA names Urnex Biocaf or Dezcal, and Durgol in Europe. A European retailer says the manufacturer advises against citric acid products. Never use pure acid or a diluted mix.

### How often should I descale?

The US documents say every 100 cycles or at least every 3 months. A household making one pot a day reaches the three month limit first; an office reaches 100 cycles in days or weeks.

### How long should a Moccamaster take to brew?

Four to six minutes for a full carafe on the 10-cup models per the manual, and about eight on some models. The Cup-One manual treats more than 4 minutes as a descale case.

### Is the UAE Moccamaster the same as the European one?

A Dubai retailer lists a KBGT at 220-240 V and 1,450 W. Read the plate on your own unit, because the documents do not describe how markets differ.

### Will repairs by you void my warranty?

The US warranty article says repairs by anyone other than Moccamaster USA or an authorised service centre are excluded. If you think a claim applies, make it before anyone opens the brewer.

### Is it worth repairing a Moccamaster?

Scale, slow flow, drip-stop and bracket faults and a failed carafe are all worth pricing. If the quote approaches the price of a new brewer we tell you before starting.
