Mr. Coffee is an American drip coffee maker brand that also sells an espresso and cappuccino maker and a single-serve brewer, so in Dubai they are imports. They are low-priced machines, which sharpens the repair question: nobody wants to pay more to fix a basic drip maker than a new one costs, but a favourite programmable model or thermal carafe machine can be worth saving. The faults owners describe are a pot that brews slowly or not at all, water or coffee that leaks, coffee that tastes bad or comes out cold, a clock or timer that has stopped working, and a machine that was plugged into the wrong supply.

This page works through them using Mr. Coffee's own manuals: the DW12 and ZH drip makers, the SCTX series, the ECM22 espresso and cappuccino maker and the BVMC-KG5 single-serve brewer. Mr. Coffee's cleaning page is cited as the maker's own blog. A forum-style troubleshooting article is labelled as third-party. The honest headline is that Mr. Coffee's warranty covers the United States and Canada, and the machines are rated for the American supply.

Book a visit and our technician comes to your address, normally on the day you message us. He finds the fault, gives you the price before any part is fitted, and does the repair on the spot when it can be done. If the machine is not worth repairing, he tells you.

## Mr. Coffee machine repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

Finding the fault costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT. After that, most Mr. Coffee repairs fall between AED 80 and AED 400 depending on the part, and you hear the price first.

- Tell us the model name on the bottom plate and what the machine does before we come.
- Parts are genuine, and the price includes the labour.
- The part and the work carry a one-month warranty.
- We repair at your address when we can. The workshop is for what cannot be finished there.

| Fault | Typical work | Where it sits in the range |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brews slowly or not at all | Descale the water path, then test the heater and the thermal parts | Lower to middle |
| No power, no light | Check the plug, supply, cord and switch, then the thermal cut-out and the board | Lower to upper |
| Water or coffee leaks | Check the tank seal, the basket seat and the hoses | Lower end |
| Coffee not hot | Test the heater and the warming plate | Lower to middle |
| Clock or timer stopped, display dead | Test the control board and the display | Middle to upper |
| Espresso and cappuccino maker: no steam or weak froth | Clear the frothing tube, test the pump and the steam valve | Lower to middle |
| Single-serve partial cups | Descale, clear the needle, test the pump | Lower to middle |
| Failure after plugging into 230 V | Test the heater, the control and the cord, then quote honestly | Lower to upper |

Most Mr. Coffee machines cost little to replace, so we say so when a repair does not make sense. A programmable or thermal model, or an espresso maker you rely on, is the kind to price a repair for.

## Which Mr. Coffee do you have?

The manuals cover several families. The model name or number is stamped on the bottom metal plate of the coffee maker, according to the SCTX and ECM22 manuals. Find yours below.

| Family | What it is | Manuals covered |
| --- | --- | --- |
| DW12 | Drip coffee maker with a decanter. Programmable and thermal versions exist | Troubleshooting, cleaning, features |
| ZH series | Drip coffee maker with a coffee chamber, a dispensing pedal and a drip tray | Troubleshooting and cleaning |
| SCTX series | Coffee maker with its own manual | The warranty page only |
| ECM22 | Espresso and cappuccino maker with a steam knob and a frothing tube | Troubleshooting and warranty |
| BVMC-KG5 and KG2 | Single-serve brewer with a handle that takes K-Cup packs | Warranty, a troubleshooting row, safeguards |

The Desertcart UAE retailer lists many other Mr. Coffee models, such as 5-cup, 12-cup programmable, 14-cup and cold brew machines. If your model is not listed here, send us the name from the plate and a photo of the fault.

Our [Braun page](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/braun-coffee-machine-repair-dubai) covers another drip maker brand, and our [Keurig page](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/keurig-coffee-machine-repair-dubai) covers K-Cup brewers in detail. The Mr. Coffee single-serve brewer takes K-Cup packs but is a different machine.

## A 120 volt Mr. Coffee on Dubai's 230 volt supply

The BVMC-KG5 manual says the plug is polarized, with one blade wider than the other, and tells you not to modify it. It allows an extension cord only if it is rated at least 10 amps and 120 volts. Those figures are the American supply.

| Source | What it says | What kind of source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| BVMC-KG5 manual | Polarized plug, one blade wider; an extension cord rated at least 10 amps and 120 volts | Mr. Coffee manual |
| Mr. Coffee warranty pages (ECM22, SCTX, BVMC-KG5) | Damage from use on improper voltage or current is excluded | Mr. Coffee manuals |
| Desertcart UAE listing for a 12-cup programmable model | 120 volts AC; the wattage line reads 4.8 watts | UAE retailer listing |
| Hunker article | Plug into a 120-volt outlet | Third-party article |

The 4.8 watts in the retailer listing cannot be the heating load of a coffee maker, so do not use it to size a transformer. Read the wattage on the plate on the bottom of your machine.

The listing also says Desertcart buys the item on your behalf and handles shipping, customs and support to the UAE, and it does not say whether the machine works on UAE power. UAE sockets deliver 230 volts at 50 hertz, which is close to double what a 120 volt machine is built for if it is plugged in directly.

- Read the plate under the machine first. A plate that says 120V means a step-down transformer, and its watt rating has to be higher than the machine's own.
- Ask the seller for the voltage and the plug type before you buy, because UAE sockets are not the American polarized type.
- If the machine went into a 230 volt socket and failed, switch it off at the wall and have it checked instead of trying again.

## Mr. Coffee warranty and service: what applies in Dubai

The ECM22, SCTX and BVMC-KG5 warranty pages say the same thing. The warranty is one year from purchase, covers defects in material and workmanship, and is given by Sunbeam Products, Inc. in the United States and Sunbeam Corporation (Canada) Limited in Canada, both doing business as Jarden Consumer Solutions.

| Point | What the manuals say |
| --- | --- |
| Territory | The U.S. and Canada |
| Term | One year from the date of purchase |
| Who is covered | The original retail purchaser; not transferable |
| Proof | Proof of purchase is required |
| Repairs | All repairs and replacements must be made by Sunbeam or an authorised Sunbeam service centre. Do not return the unit to the store of purchase |
| Contacts | Separate customer lines for the United States and Canada, neither for the UAE |
| Exclusions | Normal wear of parts, misuse, use on improper voltage or current, use contrary to the instructions, and repairs by anyone else |
| Opening the machine | The manuals say not to try to repair or change any electrical or mechanical function, and that doing so voids the warranty |

In Dubai that means a Mr. Coffee machine is outside the territory the manuals name, and the contact numbers are North American. We are an independent technician and not an authorised service partner of Mr. Coffee. We are independent of Mr. Coffee. We give our own one-month warranty on the part and the work, which is no substitute for the maker's.

## Troubleshooting a Mr. Coffee drip maker

The DW12 and ZH manuals are short. Their troubleshooting entries, with the third-party article's items kept apart, are below.

### DW12

| Problem | Remedy in the manual |
| --- | --- |
| The coffee is not brewing | Check that the unit is plugged in and check the water windows |
| The filter basket overflows | Put the lid on the decanter, then remove the filter and throw the grounds away |
| The coffee tastes bad | Use the correct ground coffee to water ratio |
| The coffee is not hot (programmable models) | Brew a fresh pot of coffee |

### ZH series

| Problem | Cause and remedy in the manual |
| --- | --- |
| Coffee leaks from the coffee maker | The coffee chamber or brew basket is not seated properly, the chamber was not empty at the start, or the drip tray is full |
| Water leaks from the coffee maker | Too much water in the reservoir. Pour in no more than 12 cups and do not pass the overfill hole |
| The coffee chamber does not fit | The chamber lid is not attached properly |
| The coffee does not dispense from the chamber | The dispensing pedal was not pushed back far enough, the chamber is empty, or the lid is not sealed properly |

### Third-party troubleshooting (Hunker, not Mr. Coffee)

| Problem | Causes it lists |
| --- | --- |
| Will not brew at all | Not plugged in firmly, a tripped breaker after a surge or outage, or an empty reservoir |
| Leaks or overflows | A misplaced, folded or collapsed filter, a basket that is not fully closed, too much water, too much coffee or too fine a grind |
| Slow brewing or bad taste | Mineral deposits, which need descaling |

The third-party article's advice on leaks and slow brewing matches the Mr. Coffee manuals, which is why we mention it. It also says a dead clock may need a technician, and for that item it gives no cause. If your machine's clock or timer is dead after the supply has been checked, that is a board or display fault.

## What the DW12 manual says about features that look like faults

Several behaviours that owners report as faults are listed as features in the DW12 manual.

| What you notice | What the manual says |
| --- | --- |
| The machine switches off by itself | Programmable models keep coffee warm for 2 hours after brewing, then turn off automatically |
| A thermal model turns off at once | Thermal models shut off immediately after the brewing cycle is completed |
| You pour a cup while the pot is still brewing | Pause 'n Serve allows up to 30 seconds off the plate while the machine is still brewing |
| The machine carried on after a short outage | It acts on the last operation selected if power returns within 10 seconds |
| Before the first pot | Wash the decanter, decanter lid and filter basket in a mixture of mild detergent and water |

The manual puts the Pause 'n Serve limit at 30 seconds. Its overflow entry is a separate item, with the remedy of putting the lid on the decanter and clearing the filter.

## Mr. Coffee espresso and cappuccino maker (ECM22)

The ECM22 manual pages carry a short troubleshooting list, mixing espresso and steam faults.

| Problem | Cause and remedy in the manual |
| --- | --- |
| Coffee does not come out | No water in the reservoir. Add water |
| Coffee comes out around the edge of the filter holder | Turn the filter holder to the full lock position |
| Coffee comes out too quickly | Use a finer grind of espresso coffee |
| Unable to steam | The reservoir is empty. Plug in the power cord and slowly turn the control knob to the steam position |
| Milk is not foamy after frothing | Not enough water in the reservoir for the steam. Follow the cappuccino ingredient and measuring guide closely, especially the water quantities |
| Coffee splatters out of the frothing tube | The tank is empty or low, so there is not enough pressure. Once the unit has cooled, use more water to brew the espresso |

- The manual gives one cleaning step for a blocked frother: turn off the unit, let it cool, unplug it and clean out the frothing tube with a needle.
- Plug in, and let the unit cool before you touch the frothing tube.
- Several of these rows end at the water level, so check the reservoir first.

The ECM22 pages did not include a descaling procedure or electrical ratings, and we do not invent either. If the pump does not build pressure with a full reservoir, the pump or steam valve needs a test.

## Mr. Coffee single-serve brewer (BVMC-KG5 and KG2)

The BVMC-KG5 manual lists only one troubleshooting row on the page. A partial cup is dealt with by descaling the brewer, and if you have repeated the descale twice and it still happens, the manual says to contact customer service.

- Lift the handle to insert a K-Cup pack, and do not remove or pierce the foil lid first.
- Fill the water tank to the MAX mark.
- The Spanish cleaning page says to unplug the brewer and let it cool before normal cleaning, never to immerse it, and to clean the housing with a damp, soapy, non-abrasive cloth.
- It says to inspect and clean the drip tray and its base regularly.
- It says to store the brewer upright in a safe, dry place that does not freeze.
- It says scale is not toxic, but if ignored it can hinder performance.

For needle cleaning, priming and the K-Cup pod faults that apply to any brewer of this design, see our [Keurig page](https://oneclickdubai.com/services/keurig-coffee-machine-repair-dubai). That page is based on Keurig's manuals, not Mr. Coffee's, so check your own manual for the steps.

## Slow brewing and bad taste: separating the causes

These two complaints get the same answer, descaling, in most advice. The manuals show it is only one of several causes, and the cheapest causes come first.

| What you notice | Cause named in a source | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The coffee tastes bad | The coffee to water ratio is wrong | DW12 manual |
| The coffee tastes bad or brewing is slow | Mineral deposits inside the machine | Third-party article, citing the descale interval |
| A red light flashing on a ZH programmable model | Decalcifying is due | ZH manual |
| The coffee is not hot (programmable) | The manual says to brew a fresh pot | DW12 manual |
| The filter basket overflows | The manual gives the remedy as the lid on the decanter and the grounds cleared away | DW12 manual |
| Coffee comes out too quickly on the espresso maker | The manual says to use a finer grind of espresso coffee | ECM22 manual |

Work through them in that order. Check the quantity of coffee and water first, because it costs nothing. Count your brew cycles against the 40 or 80 in the manual next. Descale if you are past the figure. If the machine still brews slowly after a descale and a rinse, the water path or the heater needs a look.

## Washing and descaling are different jobs

The manuals treat them separately.

- Washing deals with coffee residue. The DW12 manual washes the decanter, decanter lid and filter basket in mild detergent and water, and the ZH manual washes the filter basket, coffee chamber and chamber lid in hot water with mild liquid soap.
- Descaling deals with mineral deposits inside the machine, and uses vinegar or a commercial cleaner as the manuals describe.
- Mr. Coffee's blog asks for the removable parts to be washed after every use and the whole machine to be deep cleaned once a month.
- The ZH manual says to unplug and let the machine cool before any cleaning.
- Vinegar goes through the reservoir and not onto the base. Never immerse the body.

A vinegar run does not replace washing the basket and the decanter, and washing does not replace a vinegar run.

## Bringing a Mr. Coffee to Dubai, or buying one here

Most trouble with imported Mr. Coffee machines is decided before the machine is plugged in. Use this list.

1. **Read the plate**: The model name is stamped on the bottom metal plate. Note the voltage and the wattage as printed.
2. **Compare with the supply**: The UAE runs at 230 volts and 50 hertz. A plate that says 120V needs a step-down transformer with a higher watt rating than the plate's.
3. **Check the plug**: The BVMC-KG5 manual describes a polarized plug, one blade wider than the other, and says not to modify it. UAE sockets will not take that plug without an adapter.
4. **Check the warranty**: The Mr. Coffee manuals limit the warranty to the U.S. and Canada, with proof of purchase and repairs through Sunbeam or an authorised centre. Assume a UAE purchase has no manufacturer backup unless the seller states otherwise in writing.
5. **Ask what you are buying**: A retailer listing that handles shipping and customs for you has not said whether the machine suits UAE power. Ask.
6. **Keep the manual**: It holds the descaling figures and the troubleshooting entries on this page, in your model's wording.

If you can choose, ask the seller for a 230 volt model. The plate then tells you what you have.

## Cleaning and descaling a Mr. Coffee drip maker

Three Mr. Coffee sources describe it, and they do not agree on the ratio.

| Source | Solution | Frequency | Cycle |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| DW12 manual | 4 cups (20 fl oz) of undiluted white household vinegar can replace the cleaner | Every 80 brew cycles in soft water, every 40 in hard water | Brew three cups of cleaning solution, turn off and let stand 30 minutes |
| ZH manual | 4 cups (20 fl oz) of undiluted white household vinegar, or a commercial cleaner by its pack | Every 80 brew cycles in soft water, every 40 in hard water, or when the red light flashes on programmable models | Rinse the coffee chamber, then fill the reservoir with 10 to 12 cups of fresh water and brew. Repeat the rinse and brew once more |
| Mr. Coffee's cleaning page | White vinegar and water, using about half as much vinegar as water | Clean removable parts after every use. Deep clean once a month | Use the clean function if there is one, otherwise brew. Leave 15 to 30 minutes, then two water-only brews |

The manuals call for undiluted vinegar and the blog says half as much vinegar as water. The two are different strengths. If you have the manual for your model, follow it, because it was written for the machine. If you have only the blog, its mixture is the gentler one.

### A plain-language routine from the manuals

1. **Prepare**: Unplug and let the machine cool. Empty the carafe or decanter and remove the filter.
2. **Fill**: Pour the vinegar solution your manual gives into the reservoir.
3. **Brew**: Run the clean function, or brew the solution through. The DW12 manual says to brew three cups of solution, then turn off.
4. **Stand**: Leave it for 30 minutes (DW12) or 15 to 30 minutes (the blog).
5. **Finish the solution**: Complete the cycle, then throw the vinegar away.
6. **Rinse**: Fill the reservoir with fresh water and brew. The ZH manual says to use 10 to 12 cups and to repeat the rinse once. The blog asks for two water-only brews.

Count brew cycles, not weeks. That is arithmetic of ours, not the manual's: a household making one pot a day reaches 40 cycles after about six weeks and 80 after about eleven. A machine that brews ten pots a day reaches 40 in four days.

The blog also lists alternatives such as apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda. We do not recommend them. Neither manual names them, and the blog itself notes that cider vinegar's taste may linger.

## The water filtration disk, the decanter and the warming plate

- The DW12 manual says the water filtration disk needs replacing once a month, or about every 30 brew cycles.
- Do not set a hot decanter back on a wet warming plate. The manual says it might crack.
- Do not put a thermal carafe in the dishwasher.
- Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners on the decanter. The manual says scratches may cause it to break.
- For decanter stains, fill it with equal parts water and vinegar and let it stand for about 20 minutes.
- The ZH manual says never to use abrasive cleansers or steel wool, and never to immerse the coffee maker or put it in the dishwasher.
- Mr. Coffee's blog says the base, cord and plug of a dishwashable model are not dishwasher safe and must never be immersed.

A cracked decanter is a replacement, not a repair, and it is the part the manual warns about.

## Power, plug and extension cords

- The BVMC-KG5 manual says a short cord is provided to reduce the hazard of someone tripping over a longer one.
- It allows an extension cord if care is taken, rated at least 10 amps and 120 volts, and not draped over a counter or table edge.
- The plug is polarized. If it does not fit a socket, contact a qualified electrician and do not modify the plug.
- The cleaning pages for the ZH and BVMC-KG5 say to unplug the machine and let it cool before cleaning.
- A machine that does not light up needs a firm plug and a breaker that has not tripped, as the third-party article says.

In Dubai the extension cord advice needs a translation, because the rating that matters is the supply, 230 volts, not the 120 volts in the manual. People use plug adapters. An adapter that only changes the plug shape leaves the voltage unchanged. If the plate says 120V, the machine still needs a step-down transformer.

## Safety

- Unplug the machine and let it cool before you clean it, and never immerse the base in water or any other liquid.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool or harsh materials on the decanter or the body.
- Do not set a hot decanter on a wet warming plate.
- Do not modify the plug. If it will not fit the socket, ask an electrician.
- Do not open the machine and change its electrical or mechanical parts. The manuals say it voids the warranty, and a machine with a mains fault can be dangerous to open.
- Let the unit cool before touching the frothing tube on the ECM22.
- Throw the vinegar solution away and rinse thoroughly before the next pot.

A machine that smells hot, trips the breaker or shows a damaged cord should be unplugged and left alone until it has been tested.

## A care routine for the machine you have

| Task | How often | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Wash the carafe, filter basket and removable parts | After every use | Mr. Coffee cleaning page |
| Deep clean the whole machine | Once a month | Mr. Coffee cleaning page |
| Decalcify with vinegar | Every 80 cycles (soft water) or 40 (hard water) | DW12 and ZH manuals |
| Replace the water filtration disk | Monthly, about 30 brew cycles | DW12 manual |
| Inspect and clean the drip tray | Regularly | BVMC-KG5 manual |
| Store the brewer upright in a safe, dry place that does not freeze | When storing it | BVMC-KG5 manual |

The blog and the manuals set slightly different rhythms. A machine used daily in hard water is the one that benefits from counting cycles.

## What happens on a visit

1. **Booking**: Message us the model name from the plate and what the machine is doing.
2. **Arrival**: Our technician reaches you, as a rule, within the day.
3. **Supply check**: He reads the plate, checks the voltage and wattage against the socket, and looks at the plug and any adapter before opening anything.
4. **Diagnosis**: He checks the water path, the heater, the thermal parts, the switch, the control board and the cord, in the order the symptoms point.
5. **Quote**: The price is agreed before a part goes in.
6. **Repair and test**: He brews a pot, or an espresso and a milk froth on the ECM22, before leaving.
7. **Cover**: Part and work have one month of warranty.

If the machine is not worth repairing, the visit ends with an honest answer and the diagnostic fee only.

## Repair or replace a Mr. Coffee?

A basic drip maker costs little to replace, which makes the choice sharper here than on our other pages.

| Fault | What we would do |
| --- | --- |
| Slow or no brewing after descaling | Repair if the heater or thermal part is the fault and the price is small |
| A cracked decanter | Replace the decanter, not the machine |
| A dead board on a basic model | Compare the quote with a new machine |
| A thermal carafe or programmable model with a clean fault | Price the repair. A model you value can justify it |
| Failure after plugging into 230 V on a cheap model | Likely replace, and buy a 230 V machine |
| ECM22 espresso maker with a pump or valve fault | Price the part against a new machine |

If you decide to buy new, the diagnosis is still charged. Choose a 230 volt model, or ask the seller to confirm voltage and plug in writing.

## Before you message us

- Is the reservoir filled between the minimum and the maximum, and is the lid seated?
- Is the filter basket in place, with a paper filter that is not folded?
- Have you checked the water windows or the level marks?
- Is the decanter on the warming plate properly?
- Does the plate on the bottom say 120V, and what is the machine plugged into?
- Has the machine been descaled within 40 to 80 brew cycles?

When none of that helps, unplug the machine and message us.

## What to tell us when you book

- The model name from the bottom plate.
- The voltage and wattage on the plate, if you can read them.
- What the machine does when you switch it on.
- How it is plugged in, and whether an adapter or transformer is used.
- When it was last cleaned with vinegar.
- Your area.

Add any fixes from this page that you have already tried.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does Mr. Coffee repair cost in Dubai?

AED 100 plus VAT for the diagnosis, then mostly AED 80 to AED 400 for the repair, agreed before we start.

### Is there a Mr. Coffee service centre in Dubai?

The manuals give American and Canadian numbers only, and the warranty covers the U.S. and Canada. We are independent of Mr. Coffee.

### Can I use a US Mr. Coffee in the UAE?

Only with a step-down transformer if the plate says 120V. UAE supply is 230 V. Check the wattage on the plate, because a retailer listing gave a figure that cannot be a heating load.

### Why is my Mr. Coffee not brewing?

Check that it is plugged in and that the reservoir has water. The DW12 manual says to check the water windows. A machine that is still dead may have a heater, thermal or board fault.

### Why does the filter basket overflow?

The DW12 manual says to put the lid on the decanter, then remove the filter and throw the grounds away.

### How often should I descale a Mr. Coffee?

The DW12 and ZH manuals say every 80 brew cycles in soft water and every 40 in hard water.

### Can I use vinegar in a Mr. Coffee?

Yes. The DW12 and ZH manuals use undiluted white household vinegar. Mr. Coffee's cleaning page uses about half as much vinegar as water. Follow your own manual.

### Why does my Mr. Coffee leak?

The ZH manual lists a coffee chamber or basket that is not seated, a chamber that was not empty, a full drip tray, or too much water above the overfill hole.

### Why does my ECM22 not make foam?

The manual says there is not enough water in the reservoir for the steam. Follow its measuring guide, and clean the frothing tube with a needle if it is blocked.

### Why does my Mr. Coffee turn itself off?

On programmable models the DW12 manual says it turns off two hours after brewing. Thermal models shut off immediately after the cycle.

### Is the Mr. Coffee single-serve brewer a Keurig?

No. It takes K-Cup packs but is a different machine. Our Keurig page is based on Keurig's manuals.

### Is it worth repairing a Mr. Coffee?

A programmable, thermal or espresso model often is. For a basic drip maker or a machine damaged by the wrong voltage, compare the quote with a new machine.
