WMF coffee machines turn up in Dubai in two very different places. The professional line, the 1000 S, 1500 S and 5000 S, runs in hotel breakfast rooms, offices and cafés. The Perfection range, which includes the 600 and 800, sits in kitchens and small offices. Both are fully automatic and both ask for regular cleaning and descaling. When they stop, the cause is usually a blocked brewing unit, a milk system that needs cleaning, a blocked grinder, a flow fault or a descale that was postponed.

This page sets out what WMF's own manuals say about those faults. For the professional machines that means the error-number tables and the list of faults without an error message in the 1500 S and 5000 S manuals. For the Perfection it means the 600 user manual's cleaning, descaling and troubleshooting tables.

If your WMF has stopped, a technician from our team can be at your office, café, hotel or home, usually the same day. The diagnosis comes with a price, and nothing is fitted until you say yes. Hotels and cafés go to the front of the booking list.

## WMF coffee machine repairs in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

Finding the fault costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT. Once you approve the repair, the bill for most WMF jobs lands between AED 80 and AED 400, depending on the part involved.

- Most visits happen the day you message us. A photo of the rating plate and of the screen speeds that up.
- Parts are genuine and priced together with labour.
- Both the part and the repair carry one month of cover.
- We fix the machine where it stands. The workshop is for jobs that cannot be done there.

| Fault | Typical work | Where it sits in the range |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brewing unit stiff or flow error | Strip and clean the unit, replace seals or the unit | Lower to middle |
| Milk will not foam or spits | Clean the milk path, replace hose, combi spout or seals | Lower to middle |
| Grinder blocked | Clear the disk, replace the disk or the motor if worn | Middle to upper |
| Boiler over-temperature or heat-up error | Test the heater and sensors, replace the part | Middle to upper |
| Cooler too cold or iced | Check the setting, then the cooling unit | Lower to middle |
| Powder (choc) not dispensing | Clean the dosing auger and portion controller, replace if worn | Lower to middle |
| Left and right coffee outputs differ | Test and replace the part at fault | Middle |
| Water under the machine | Trace the hose, valve or fitting | Lower to middle |
| Board, display or repeated software hang | Test and replace | Upper end |

Where a repair would cost nearly as much as a new machine, you hear that from us first.

## Which WMF do you have?

Look at the front panel for the name and at the rating plate for the full code. The professional WMF range carries an S, as in 1500 S and 5000 S, and the home range is called Perfection.

| Range | Manuals covered | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1500 S, 1000 S | The 1500 S user manual: error messages, errors without an error message, descaling | Other models have their own manuals, so treat the 1500 S tables as a guide |
| 5000 S | One page of the user manual: errors without an error message | Milk, powder, pump and hopper symptoms |
| Perfection 600 and 800 | The Perfection 600 user manual: cleaning, descaling, troubleshooting, hardness, filter, safety. | Not stated |
| WMF Espresso and other lines | Not quoted on this page | We repair them; check your manual for codes |

Your screen may word a message differently from the tables below, so send us a photo of what it shows.

## Who looks after a WMF in the UAE?

WMF's service page for its professional machines describes preventive maintenance by a technician who checks the machine regularly and systematically, cleans and descales it when required, and uses only original parts. It also describes a CoffeeConnect platform for viewing service and maintenance information, and installation and break-and-fix repairs.

WMF's page of partners worldwide lists partners in Europe, America and Asia, and the Asian section shows only China and Japan. We therefore name no UAE partner. The map may list one that the page text does not.

| Your situation | What we suggest |
| --- | --- |
| Bought through a dealer with a service agreement | Ring the dealer or the number in your agreement first |
| Machine supplied with a hotel or café fit-out | Ask the fit-out company who holds the maintenance contract |
| Out of warranty, or no agreement | Message us. We visit the same day in most cases |
| Imported or second-hand | Send the rating plate. Supply details matter (see the power section) |

One Click Dubai is independent of WMF. We cannot speak for the maker, and our repair does not replace a factory warranty.

## WMF 1500 S error numbers

The 1500 S manual lists numbered errors with a remedy. The text gave the first five clearly. For the others the page layout made it hard to tell which remedy block goes with which number, so we say where we have inferred the pairing, and you should check it against your own manual.

| Error | Meaning in the manual | Remedy in the manual | When we are called |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 6 | Brewing unit lock-up current: the unit is stiff | Switch off. Clean the brewing unit from the Care menu | The unit is clean and the error returns |
| 88 | Boiler over-temperature | Switch off, let it cool, switch on. If it stays, switch off and call WMF service | It returns after cooling |
| 89 | Boiler heat-up time error | Switch off and on. If it stays, call WMF service | It returns |
| 161 | Flow error, brewing water | Switch off and on between each step. Clean the brewing unit. Set the grind coarser. Reduce the quality setting. If it stays, call WMF service | It stays after all four steps |
| 162 | Flow error during cleaning | Switch off and on between each step. Clean the brewing unit. If it stays, call WMF service | It stays |
| 163 | Flow error, warm rinsing | Clean the brewing unit. If it stays, call WMF service | It stays |
| 186 | Steam boiler level | See the blocked-dispensing steps below (pairing inferred) | Always, if it returns |
| 188 | Heater error | See the blocked-dispensing steps below (pairing inferred) | Always, if it returns |
| 189 | Steam boiler heat-up time error | See the blocked-dispensing steps below (pairing inferred) | Always, if it returns |
| 9083 | Cooler temperature in the frost range | Check whether the cooler temperature is set too low | The setting is right |
| 9516 | Right grinder blocked | Grinder steps below (pairing inferred) | The disk will not turn or the error returns |
| 9517 | Left grinder blocked | Grinder steps below (pairing inferred) | The disk will not turn or the error returns |

### When beverage dispensing is blocked (186, 188, 189)

1. **Check the grounds container**: Make sure it is inserted correctly.
2. **Switch off and on**: Restart the machine.
3. **Disconnect**: If it stays, switch off, take out the mains plug and call WMF service.
4. **Call**: If the error returns after a restart, do not keep restarting. Message us for service.

### When a grinder is blocked (9516, 9517)

1. **Power off**: Switch off the machine and pull the mains plug.
2. **Remove the bean hopper**: Lift it off.
3. **Turn the disk**: The manual says to turn the grinder disk counterclockwise only, using the hopper multitool with two pins in the recesses on the grinder.
4. **Refit and clean**: Replace the hopper, switch on and clean the bean hopper.
5. **If it repeats**: Set the grinding degree one stage coarser.

The manual also gives a general reset. If the software hangs, hold the ON/OFF switch, which responds after about a second, to switch the controller off.

A blocked grinder that returns can mean a hard object in the beans or a worn disk. We take the grinder out and look rather than keep restarting it.

## Faults with no error message

Many WMF faults show no number at all. The 1500 S manual and the 5000 S manual both list them. Neither page paired each symptom with a cause in a way we could confirm, so the remedies below are grouped by topic and the pairing is our reading.

| Symptom | What the manuals suggest |
| --- | --- |
| No hot water, but water in the grounds container | Clean the hot water spout |
| No choc, but water in the grounds container | Call WMF service. Coffee can still be made |
| Choc portion controller blocked, choc only dispensed with water | Stop using choc. Clean the portion controller and the powder hopper: empty the powder, turn the dosing auger by hand until all powder is out, rinse with water if needed and let it dry completely |
| Left and right coffee outputs differ | Call WMF service. Coffee can still be made |
| No milk foam or milk, with milk in the container | Clean the combi spout, clean the milk system by hand, check the milk hose is not kinked or squashed, check whether the cooler is iced. On a Dynamic Milk machine, add milk and use Fill milk system in the customer care menu |

### The 5000 S list

| Symptom (5000 S) | Remedies the manual lists, by topic |
| --- | --- |
| No milk foam or milk output | Hose, combi spout, filling the milk system, cooling, cleaning |
| Milk foam not right | Same milk checks |
| Temperature too cold or too hot | Check the cooling and whether the milk has been cooled enough |
| Foam spits strongly | Combi spout and milk system cleaning |
| Milk too hot | Cooling checks |
| No powder drink | Dose less powder or more water; turn the dosing auger slightly by hand clockwise; switch off and on; check the hopper is not locked by mistake |
| Pump runs continuously, water in grounds container | The page gives no remedy specific to this symptom. Switch off and on, then call WMF service |
| Choc or bean hopper cannot be replaced | Check it is not accidentally locked |

The 5000 S manual repeats one line on milk: clean and rinse the milk system more often, daily if necessary.

## Milk systems on WMF professional machines

The 1500 S manual names three milk systems, and the remedy for a milk fault depends on which one you have. Look at the front of the machine or the rating plate.

| System | What the manual says to do for no foam or no milk |
| --- | --- |
| Basic Milk | Clean the combi spout and check whether the milk nozzle is blocked |
| Easy Milk | Clean the combi spout |
| Dynamic Milk | Clean the combi spout by hand, add milk and use Fill milk system in the customer care menu |

- On every type, check that the milk hose is not kinked or squashed and re-route it if it is.
- On every type, check whether the milk cooler is iced and whether the milk was cooled enough.
- Clean the milk system by hand from the Care menu if the combi spout does not cure it.
- Clean the mixer bowl and rinse the milk system more often, daily if necessary, as the 5000 S manual says.

If the foam stays thin or the milk spits after those steps, the milk pump, the seals or the cooler are the next things we test.

## Flow errors and coffee quality settings

Errors 161, 162 and 163 are flow errors, and the 1500 S manual's remedy for 161 involves two settings that change how the coffee is made. They are worth understanding because they change the cup.

| Setting | What the manual does with it | Effect on the cup |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Grinding degree | Set one stage coarser for a flow error or a blocked grinder that repeats (Other settings, Set grinding degree) | Coarser grind lets water through faster, and the coffee can taste thinner |
| Quality | Reduce it for error 161 (Settings, Recipes) | The manual does not say what it changes, so expect a different cup and taste before you keep it |
| Brewing unit clean | Clean it from the Care menu for errors 6, 161, 162 and 163 | A clean unit restores flow without changing the recipe |

Change the grind only as the manual says and write down the original setting first, so you can go back to it once the unit has been cleaned or repaired. If the error returns after the brewing unit is clean and the grind is coarser, the cause is no longer a setting, and a technician should look at the unit and the flow path.

## Chocolate and powder dispensing

The professional manuals cover a chocolate or powder hopper. The faults they list are no powder drink, a drink made only with water, and a blocked portion controller.

1. **Stop using choc**: If the portion controller is blocked and choc comes out only with water, stop dispensing it.
2. **Empty the hopper**: Clean the powder hopper as the manual describes: empty out the powder.
3. **Clear the auger**: Turn the dosing auger by hand until all powder is removed.
4. **Rinse if needed**: Rinse with water if needed.
5. **Dry completely**: Let everything dry completely before refilling.

- If the powder drink is too thick, dose less powder or more water. If it is too thin, do the opposite (5000 S).
- If nothing dispenses, check that the choc hopper is not locked by mistake and switch off and on.
- If choc will not dispense and there is water in the grounds container, the 1500 S manual says to call WMF service. Coffee can still be made.

Moisture is the enemy of a powder system. Dry the system fully after cleaning, and top up with dry powder only.

## Descaling a WMF professional machine

The 1500 S manual gives a clear procedure and one firm rule: use only WMF Descaling Agent. The manual says other products may damage the machine, and that warranty claims for resulting damage are not accepted.

| Item | What the manual says |
| --- | --- |
| When | The machine calculates when descaling is due and shows a reminder. The interval depends on water hardness, water flow and whether a filter is fitted |
| Quantities | Two 0.75 litre bottles of descaler and three bottles of warm water, 2.25 litres in all |
| Container | A 5 litre collection container |
| Time | About 80 minutes |
| Stages | Cooling routine if the machine is hot, preparation, descaling, rinsing |
| Interruption | The procedure must not be interrupted |
| Where | Main menu, Care, Descaling, then the tank or fixed-water-supply procedure, following the screen |

Follow the screen and your manual for the individual steps. If a descale was interrupted by a power cut or a stuck screen, message us before you start it again.

## Descaling a WMF Perfection: the answer to the WMF coffee machine descaling search

The Perfection 600 manual gives the programme times and the rules. Its step-by-step instructions sit in figures that the text extract did not carry, so for the exact order follow your own manual or the on-screen prompts.

| Item | Perfection 600 manual |
| --- | --- |
| When | When the display prompts, at any time, or after the first 60 drinks made with hot water or milk |
| Programme | 20 minutes, up to 1,400 millilitres |
| Dissolving | Stir the solution as you fill the tank so the descaler dissolves |
| Postponing | Allowed, but the warning stays until the machine is descaled |
| Power loss in the cycle | The programme restarts and may need an extra cleaning tablet |
| Filter | Take the filter out before descaling (retailer account below) |

### A retailer's account, labelled as such

Coolblue, a retailer that sells WMF's own descaler, describes the process in four stages: prepare (empty the drip tray and tank, remove the filter, fill to the CALC mark with lukewarm water and add the descaler), descale (a cycle of about 17 minutes, with the milk tube in an empty glass), rinse (twice, emptying the container and drip tray between rinses) and refit the filter (fill the tank to max and run one last rinse). Its figure of 17 minutes differs from the manual's 20, which is the kind of difference you get between a retailer and a manual. Use the manual's number for planning.

- Use WMF's own descaler. The professional manual is explicit, and the retailer's account names WMF's own product for the Perfection.
- Fill to the CALC mark, not max, for descaling, and fill to max only when the filter is back in (Coolblue).
- Rinse as the programme says. If the first cup tastes of chemicals, our advice is to run another rinse and message us if it persists.

For the general method behind descaling a coffee machine, see our [descaling guide](https://oneclickdubai.com/guides/how-to-descale-a-coffee-machine).

## Cleaning programmes on the Perfection

The Perfection 600 manual lists its programmes in the cleaning tile of the settings menu.

| Programme | Time and volume | When |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Click and Clean (milk system) | 55 seconds, 95 millilitres | After each milk drink or when prompted |
| Coffee system rinse | 45 seconds, 25 millilitres | Any time, hot water only |
| Tea system rinse | 25 seconds, 40 millilitres | Any time |
| Milk components by hand | 5 minutes | Includes the cleaning needle |
| Coffee system cleaning | 13 minutes, 600 millilitres | Uses one cleaning tablet |
| Descaling | 20 minutes, up to 1,400 millilitres | When prompted |

The manual shows a cleaning prompt after a milk drink. Accept it. Milk left in the system is the usual reason for a milk fault.

## Troubleshooting the Perfection: what the manual says

These entries come from the 600 manual's troubleshooting pages, paraphrased from the German section.

| Problem | Remedy in the manual |
| --- | --- |
| A fault shows or the software hangs | Switch off, unplug, remove the filter, wait a minute, switch on by holding the On/Off button |
| Machine will not switch on | Check fuses, socket and plug |
| Prompt to unplug and reconnect | Unplug, remove the Claris filter, wait about 20 seconds, reconnect. If the message stays, call WMF service |
| Unusual grinder noise | Probably a foreign object. Try a vacuum, otherwise call WMF service |
| Coffee too weak or light | Finer grind, smaller volume or two cycles |
| Coffee flows too slowly | Coarser grind, run rinse cycles, clean the machine |
| Coffee not hot enough | Rinse the system, raise the temperature, warm the cup |
| No steam or a blocked nozzle | Clear the nozzle with the needle. If needed, empty the tank, remove the filter and run five to ten steam cycles |
| Water under the machine | Wait about 15 seconds after a cycle before removing the tank, and keep the drip tray in place |
| No descale prompt | Descaling is needed only after many drinks |
| Tank filled but message stays | Fill it fully and make sure the float moves freely |
| Grounds container emptied but message stays | Reinsert it correctly and wait at least six seconds first |

If a grinder noise follows a hard object, do not run the machine to test it. Switch off and message us.

## Water hardness and the filter

- The Perfection 600 manual has hardness levels from 0, very soft, to 4, very hard, set with the test strips. Check the table in your manual.
- Install the Claris filter only with the supplied tool and set the change month with the grey ring.
- On the professional line, descale intervals depend on hardness, water flow and the filter, according to the 1500 S manual.
- WMF's own service page lists cleaning and descaling as part of preventive maintenance.

A wrong hardness setting is a quiet cause of descale prompts that come too often or too late. Ask your building for the water report and set the level once.

## Power and safety

The Perfection 600 manual gives its supply as 220 to 240 volts at 50 hertz and says to connect it to an earthed 230 volt socket. Dubai's single-phase supply sits in that range. Check the rating plate of a 1500 S or 5000 S against your supply, particularly if it was imported.

- Do not use the machine with a damaged cord, and do not put the machine, cord or plug in liquid.
- Unplug the machine and do not clean it while hot.
- Do not touch the steam nozzle after use. It holds heat.
- Children under eight must not clean or maintain the Perfection unless supervised.
- On a blocked grinder, pull the mains plug before touching the disk.

That list covers the manuals. Check your own manual for the rest.

## Parts we fit on WMF machines

| Part | Job in the machine | What you notice when it wears |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brewing unit and seals | Press the coffee and pass the water | Error 6, flow errors 161 to 163 |
| Grinder disks and motor | Grind each dose | Blocked-grinder errors, noise |
| Combi spout, milk hose and seals | Draw and foam the milk | No foam, spitting |
| Cooling unit | Keep the milk cold | Iced cooler, frost-range error |
| Boiler, steam boiler and heater | Heat water and steam | Errors 88, 89, 186, 188, 189 |
| Dosing auger and portion controller | Dose chocolate or milk powder | No choc, damp or clumped powder |
| Pump, flow meter and valves | Move and measure the water | Flow errors, a wet base |
| Hot water spout | Dispense hot water | No hot water with water in the container |
| Sensors for tray, container and hopper | Report what is in place | False full or missing messages |
| Control board and display | Run every product | Software hangs, a dead screen |

Every part we fit is genuine. For an older machine whose part is discontinued, you will hear it before the quote.

## A cleaning routine for an office or café WMF

The schedule below is ours. WMF's pages say to clean the milk system more often, daily if needed, and give no timetable for the rest.

| When | Job |
| --- | --- |
| Daily, or after the milk service | Run the milk cleaning programme and empty the grounds container and drip tray |
| Daily | Clean the combi spout if the machine has one |
| Weekly | Clean the bean hopper and the powder hopper, and dry the powder system fully |
| When prompted | Run the brewing unit clean and the descale with WMF's own products |
| Whenever you change beans or milk supplier | Taste the first cup and note the grind |

The routine takes minutes. A missed milk clean is the easiest fault on a WMF to prevent.

## Planned service for a WMF

WMF's service page describes regular, systematic checks with cleaning and descaling when required. Our service plan for offices, cafés and hotels follows the same idea. A technician visits on a schedule, cleans and inspects the milk path, brewing unit, grinder and water connection, and leaves a written note of what is wearing out. If the machine stops between visits, your booking is moved up. The terms are agreed in writing.

The price depends on how many machines and visits are involved, so we quote it for your site rather than print a figure.

## How a WMF visit runs

1. **Your account first**: Tell us what the screen showed and when the trouble began. We also ask about the last clean and descale.
2. **Plate and supply**: We note the model code, check the socket and see how water reaches the machine.
3. **Likely causes**: The brewing unit, the milk path and the grinder come first, as they head the manuals' lists.
4. **Targeted tests**: Pump, heater and cooler are tested when the fault points there.
5. **The price**: You hear the figure before any part goes in.
6. **A working cup**: We finish by making a coffee and a milk drink, and we look for drips.

If the machine must leave your premises, we explain the reason and the time it will take before it is collected.

## Repair or replace a WMF?

WMF gives no guidance here, so we use our own rule. Compare the quote with the price of a new machine of the same class, and rethink the repair once it nears half that price.

| Fault | Usual advice | Reason |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brewing unit or seals | Repair | Wear parts made to be replaced |
| Milk hose, combi spout, seals | Repair | Small, quick parts |
| Grinder disk | Repair | A planned wear item |
| Pump or flow meter | Repair | Far below the price of a new machine |
| Boiler or heater on a professional machine | Compare | Depends on the part and the machine's age |
| Board on an older Perfection | Compare | The quote can approach a new price |

Should a new machine make more sense, we tell you, and you pay the visit fee only.

## Before you ring: six quick checks

1. **Note the error**: Write down the number and the words before switching off.
2. **One restart**: Where the manual calls for off and on, do it once, not repeatedly.
3. **Containers and hoppers**: Seat the grounds container, bean hopper and milk container, and confirm no hopper was locked by accident.
4. **Milk path**: Run the milk cleaning programme and look for a kinked hose.
5. **Water**: Look at the tank level, the float and the filter.
6. **Descale date**: If it is overdue, the machine will say so. Use WMF's own descaler.

A fault that returns after all six points to a part inside the machine.

## Details to have ready

- Model name and the full code on the plate.
- Error number and the screen's wording.
- Dates of the last clean, descale and service.
- Any maintenance agreement and who holds it.
- Tank or fixed water connection.

Mention any step from this page you have already tried, and we will start after it.

## While you wait for the technician

If a WMF is leaking, smells of burning or has tripped the breaker, switch it off and unplug it. Empty the drip tray and the grounds container so they do not overflow while the machine stands.

- Photograph the message on the display and note any number in it.
- Do not pull the brewing unit or open panels while the machine is rinsing or running a programme. Wait for the display to finish.
- Do not repeat a descaling programme that stopped part-way. Tell us at which stage it stopped.

## Frequently asked questions

### What do WMF coffee machine repairs cost in Dubai?

AED 100 plus VAT for the diagnosis. The repair itself mostly falls between AED 80 and AED 400, and you approve it before we start.

### Is there a WMF service centre in Dubai?

WMF's partner page lists no UAE or Middle East partner, although its locations map may. We are independent of WMF and can usually attend the same day.

### Do you repair the WMF 1500 S and 5000 S?

Yes. Send the model code and the error number on the screen.

### What does error 6 mean on a WMF 1500 S?

The manual lists it as brewing unit lock-up current, with the unit stiff. Switch off and clean the brewing unit from the Care menu.

### What do errors 161 and 162 mean?

Flow errors, one for brewing water and one during cleaning. The manual says to clean the brewing unit and, for 161, set the grind coarser and reduce the quality setting.

### How do I descale a WMF coffee machine?

Use WMF's own descaler. On the professional 1500 S the programme takes about 80 minutes and must not be interrupted. The Perfection 600 programme takes 20 minutes. Follow your own manual for the steps.

### Can I use another descaler on a WMF?

The 1500 S manual says to use only WMF Descaling Agent and that warranty claims are not accepted for damage from other products.

### Why does my WMF not foam milk?

The manuals list a kinked milk hose, a dirty combi spout, a milk system that needs filling or cleaning, and an iced cooler. Check each in turn.

### What does a blocked grinder error mean?

On the 1500 S, 9516 and 9517 refer to the right and left grinder. Pull the plug, remove the hopper and turn the disk counterclockwise only, as the manual describes.

### How long does a WMF Perfection descale take?

The 600 manual gives 20 minutes and up to 1,400 millilitres. A retailer account gives about 17 minutes, so use the manual's figure.

### Does a WMF work on Dubai's supply?

The Perfection 600 is rated for 220 to 240 volts at 50 hertz. Check the plate on a professional machine.

### Should I mend or replace my WMF?

Brewing unit, milk and grinder faults are normally worth repairing. A board fault on an older home machine deserves a quote comparison first.
