Overview

Rancilio machines come into our service work from two very different directions. One is the home enthusiast with a Silvia on the kitchen counter and a Rocky grinder beside it. The other is the café, restaurant or hotel with a Classe or Z-series machine on the bar, where an hour of downtime means orders lost. One Click Dubai repairs both, with a technician sent the same day, and we also service the Egro bean-to-cup machines that sit in the same Rancilio Group.

The two worlds share the same mechanics. Water goes through a pump, a boiler heats it, a group head and gasket seal it against the portafilter, and a valve releases the pressure afterwards. When any of those fail, the symptoms are familiar: no flow, a leak at the group, weak steam, a shot that runs thin. This page explains how to tell which part is at fault, what you can safely try yourself, and what a technician does.

We repair on site wherever we can. A Silvia or a Rocky that needs the bench is collected, and a café machine is looked at on the bar, so the downtime stays short. The price is agreed before any part is fitted.

Rancilio repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

The visit costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT, and the technician uses it to find the fault. You then receive one price for the repair, and the decision is yours. Rancilio repairs come between AED 80 and AED 400, depending on the fault.

Same-day visits. Message us on WhatsApp with the model and the fault.
Genuine parts. The quoted price covers the part and the labour.
Café machines get priority booking, because every hour down is lost sales.
A month of cover on everything we fit.

These are the common Rancilio jobs from cheapest to dearest. Use the order as a guide, and rely on your quote for the real figure.

A Rancilio is the kind of machine where small, regular maintenance pays. A gasket changed on schedule costs little. A boiler fed on hard water for years does not.

Which Rancilio do you have?

The machine name is on the front, and the rating plate is on the back or underneath. A photo of the plate when you book tells the technician which parts to bring.

RangeWhat it isWhat we see most
SilviaThe home semi-automatic. A single boiler, a 58 mm group and portafilter, and a steam wand. You switch between brew and steam temperature yourselfGroup gasket leaks, weak pressure, steam problems, thermostat faults
Silvia Pro and Pro XNewer Silvia models with temperature control and a hot water tap. Check the manual for the exact boiler layout of your versionHot water tap solenoid, heating faults, control faults
RockyThe home grinder with flat burrs, sold with or without a doserJammed burrs, a grind setting that no longer holds, motor faults
Classe 5, 7, 9 and 11Commercial espresso machines in one to three groups, for cafés and restaurantsGroup gaskets, pumps, pressure faults, steam valves, leaks
Z-series and older commercialOlder commercial machines still in service across the regionGaskets, boilers, solenoids, scale
EgroBean-to-cup machines for offices and small outletsBrew unit, grinder, milk system, descale

For a Silvia, ask which version you have. The home models changed over the years, and the parts differ. The plate and the model name together settle it.

Who looks after your Rancilio in Dubai?

Rancilio Group is part of Ali Group. For a new machine, the people to ask are the shop or the dealer that sold it. Check the warranty card, because a home machine such as the Silvia typically carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty, and a commercial machine's cover is set by the dealer's contract.

Commercial Rancilio machines are often sold with a service contract or supplied on a lease or coffee agreement. If yours is, repairs are normally the supplier's job and paid for by the agreement, and having someone else open the machine may breach it. Read the contract before you call anyone.

If the warranty has ended, the machine is yours outright or the dealer is not responsive, message us. We visit your home, café or hotel, charge AED 100 plus VAT for the diagnosis, name the repair price first and cover our work for a month. We also offer service visits and service plans for commercial machines, so gaskets, pressure and the boiler are checked before they fail.

How a Silvia works, and why that makes it easy to diagnose

A Silvia is simple, which is a large part of why people keep them for twenty years. Knowing the parts turns a vague complaint into a short test.

A vibration pump pulls water from the tank and pushes it to the boiler.
A single brass boiler heats the water. Two thermostats, one for brewing and one for steam, switch the heater on and off.
A three-way solenoid valve sits behind the group. At the end of a shot it vents the trapped pressure to the drain tray, which is why a healthy puck is firm and dry.
An overpressure valve caps the pump pressure and sends surplus water back to the tank.
The group head and its gasket seal the portafilter. The shower screen spreads the water over the coffee.
The steam valve controls the wand. Switches on the front turn on power, brew, steam and hot water.

Because there is one boiler, you switch between brewing and steaming yourself, and wait for the boiler to reach the right temperature each time. That is a feature of the design, not a fault, and it explains a lot of complaints we hear.

A quick test narrows most problems. Switch on the machine, run water from the group and from the steam wand, and watch what comes out and where. That one test separates the pump, the solenoid, the basket and the group from each other.

Silvia: no flow, or flow from the wrong place

Start with a clean machine, because a blocked group or screen causes most flow problems. Then test in this order.

TestWhat you findWhat it points to
Run the brew function with no portafilterNo water at all, and no pump soundA failed pump, a tripped fuse or no power to the pump
Run the brew function with no portafilterWater flowsThe pump and solenoid are working. Move to the next test
Run hot water from the steam wandNothing comes outA blocked wand or tip, or a steam valve that has not opened
Run hot water from the steam wandWater comes outThe pump and boiler are fine. The fault is at the group or in the steam path
Flow from the wand but not from the groupNothing at the groupA clogged basket, a blocked shower screen or a blocked solenoid
Pump buzzes and draws nothing from the tankNoise with no waterAn air lock in the pump, or a tube that has slipped off or kinked

Check the basket first. If the hole in the bottom is clogged, soak it in descaler or boil it. If the fine mesh layer is missing, it needs replacing. Then clean the group head and the shower screen. If the solenoid is blocked, water appears at the drain on the front and not at the group.

The cure for a clogged solenoid is to clean it, and a failed solenoid is replaced. We test it before we replace it, since the cleaning is a lower-end job and the replacement is not.

Silvia leaks: where the water comes from

Where it leaksLikely causeWhat to do
Around the sides of the group headThe 58 mm group gasket has hardened or wornReplace the gasket, and check the portafilter locks fully
Spraying from the portafilter spoutsA faulty basket seating or a missing pinCheck the basket and the spout, and replace what is missing
From the steam wand or valveA worn steam valve seal or a loose knobTighten, descale, then replace the valve if it continues
From the back of the machineA tube slipped out of the tank, or a loose connectionCheck the tubes are inside the tank, then book a visit
From the boiler areaA boiler seal or a crackSwitch off, unplug and book a visit
From beneath the machineA hose, a fitting or the pumpUnplug and book a visit

A common leak is the gasket, and it is the easiest repair on a Silvia. Years of heat harden the rubber until it no longer seals, and you notice the handle travelling further round than it used to. Replacing the gasket and cleaning the shower screen takes one visit.

A leak from the boiler area is a different matter. Switch off and unplug the machine, because water near the heater and the wiring is dangerous. We open the housing, find the source and tell you honestly what it will cost.

Silvia steam, and the temperature-switching habit

A single-boiler Silvia makes its steam in the same boiler that heats the coffee water. The steam switch hands control to the higher-temperature thermostat, and the boiler warms up to it. Three things cause weak or slow steam.

A blocked steam tip. Dried milk narrows the holes. Soak the tip and clear each hole.
A leaking steam valve, which loses pressure before it reaches the wand. Look for water running down the wand or dripping at the knob.
A steam thermostat that has failed, so the boiler never reaches steaming temperature.

Test it by opening the wand once the steam light shows and checking for a steady, dry flow. The Silvia needs time to climb from brew to steam temperature, so judge a delay against what your machine used to do.

The same habit affects shots. Because brewing and steaming temperatures are close but not the same, many owners flush a little water through the group before a shot after steaming, to bring the boiler back down. Sour or burnt shots straight after steaming are usually this, not a fault.

Silvia with no heat, or no power

Check the socket and the cable. A cable that is warm or marked is a reason to stop using the machine.
Check the power switch light. If the machine is on and the light shows, the heater is not coming on.
The brew thermostat or the steam thermostat has failed, so the heater never switches on. Check the thermostat connections for loose wires first.
A thermal fuse has blown, often after the machine ran dry or overheated.
A heating element has failed, which is the dearer cause.
A machine that heats very slowly may be heavy with scale.

We test the thermostats and the fuse with a meter before replacing anything. The thermostats are a middle-range repair, and a loose wire is free. If the machine will not heat, switch it off and leave it unplugged until it has been checked.

Weak shots, low pressure and the overpressure valve

A shot that runs thin and fast, or lacks crema, starts with the coffee and the grind, then the machine.

Stale beans give weak crema whatever the machine does.
A grind that is too coarse lets the water through too fast.
A pressurised basket gives foam from pressure and not from the grind, so a coarse grind can look fine and still taste thin. Switch to a single-wall basket to find out what the machine is really doing.
A worn group gasket or a blocked shower screen makes uneven flow and loses pressure around the portafilter.

If the beans, grind, basket and gasket are all right, the pump or the overpressure valve is the next suspect. Water returning to the tank during the shot is the valve working. Water returning to the tank in a noisy rush, with a weak shot, can mean the valve is opening too early.

We read the pressure from a gauge fitted to a portafilter. A pump that falls short is replaced, and a valve that opens early is cleaned or reset. Leave the valve screw alone without a gauge, because guessing leaves the machine at the wrong pressure.

Silvia Pro and Pro X: hot water tap and controls

The Silvia Pro and Pro X add features the original lacks, and each feature adds parts that can fail.

The hot water tap is operated by its own solenoid. If it clogs, hot water stops or runs weakly. Cleaning it is a lower-end job.
Temperature control adds sensors and a controller. A fault shows as a temperature that will not reach its setting or a display that reports an error.
Scale still builds up inside, and descaling on schedule keeps the sensors and heaters working.
A control or display fault needs a technician, and we quote it before we start.

Because these are newer machines, the first question is always the warranty. Check it before anyone opens the machine.

Rancilio Rocky grinder problems

The Rocky is a grinder with flat burrs, sold with a doser or doserless. It is built to last, and its faults are mostly mechanical.

SymptomLikely causeWhat to do
Loud scraping or grindingA hard object between the burrs, or the burrs touchingSwitch off, empty the hopper and book a visit
The motor hums and does not turnA jam, a failing capacitor or a seized motorSwitch off and book a visit
The grind setting no longer changes the resultA worn collar, or burrs that have worn smoothBook a visit
Very uneven or fluffy groundsWorn or dirty burrsClean, then replace the burrs if needed
Doser jammed or stickyOld coffee oil and groundsClean the doser and sweeper
The grinder trips the power or smells hotMotor overheating or an electrical faultUnplug and book a visit

Clean a Rocky regularly. Oily beans leave a film on the burrs and in the chute, and the grind slowly drifts. Worn burrs are a middle-to-upper repair, and we test with fresh beans first, because stale beans mimic worn burrs.

Commercial Rancilio: Classe and Z-series machines

A café machine works hard, and its faults arrive at the worst times. The common ones are the same few across the Classe and Z-series machines.

SymptomLikely causeWhat a technician does
Water drips around a group headGroup gasket hardenedReplace the gasket and the shower screen
Shots run fast or weakPump pressure low, or a worn gasketCheck pump pressure with a gauge; replace the gasket or pump
No water from a groupBlocked solenoid, a blocked screen or a failed pumpTest the solenoid and clean or replace it
Steam weak or slowBlocked steam tip, a leaking valve, or low boiler pressureClean or replace the tip and valve; check the pressure switch
Boiler pressure too high or lowPressure switch fault or a heating element faultTest and replace the failed part
Machine will not fillA level probe or fill valve faultTest the probe and the valve
Water leaking beneath the machineA fitting, the pump or a boiler sealFind the source before the machine is run again
Scale in the groups or boilerHard water and no softenerDescale, then fit or service the softener

On a commercial machine we measure before we replace. The pump pressure at the group, the boiler pressure on its gauge and the water temperature tell us which part is at fault. Parts replaced on a guess cost a café money and time.

Because downtime is costly, we aim to arrive with a common wear parts: group gaskets, shower screens and basic valves. We will tell you honestly what the fault is and whether it can be fixed on the visit.

Commercial Rancilio: the daily and weekly routine

Most café breakdowns trace back to routines that slipped. This schedule keeps a Rancilio serving.

How oftenWhat to do
After every drinkPurge the steam wand and wipe it. Wipe the group head and screen
End of every dayBackflush each group with a blind basket and espresso machine cleaner, then rinse with plain water. Clean the portafilters and baskets
WeeklySoak portafilters and baskets in cleaner. Remove and clean the shower screens and check the group gaskets
MonthlyCheck water pressure, the softener and the drain. Check the steam tips and valves
Every 3 to 6 monthsReplace the group gaskets and screens, and check the pump pressure
Every 6 to 12 monthsBook a full service: boiler, pressure switch, pump, valves and safety valve

The gaskets are the cheapest insurance. A gasket that is changed every few months costs a few dirhams. A gasket that is left until it fails costs a service call and a lost morning.

A service plan from us puts these checks on a calendar, so they do not depend on someone remembering. Ask us what a plan would cover for your machine.

Egro and other Rancilio bean-to-cup machines

Egro machines grind, brew and often froth milk automatically, and they fail where a bean-to-cup fails.

A brew unit that is dirty, dry or worn gives weak coffee, wet pucks and error messages. Cleaning and regreasing it is a lower-end job.
A grinder that is blocked or worn stops or gives a poor grind. Burrs on a busy machine wear out.
A milk system that is not cleaned blocks, and the foam goes thin.
Scale in the heating system slows the machine and brings error messages.
A water filter or softener that is overdue lets scale through.

We read the machine's message, check the brew unit, the grinder and the water side, and tell you what we find. The care routine is the same as for any busy bean-to-cup: clean daily, descale on schedule and service the unit regularly.

Descaling a Rancilio, and water quality

Scale is the great enemy of every machine on this page. A Silvia's single boiler and a café machine's boilers and groups all collect it, and Dubai's water makes the routine more important.

Use filtered or softened water for a home Silvia, and replace the filter on the schedule in the manual.
Descale a home Silvia when heat-up slows, steam weakens, or on the interval in the manual. Use a descaler made for espresso machines, and follow the pack.
Never use strong household acids or mix products.
On a commercial machine, fit a water softener and a filter, and service them. The softener resin needs regenerating, and a softener that is not maintained does nothing.
Descale a commercial machine on a schedule that matches your water and your volume, and flush it thoroughly afterwards.
Rinse and flush every line after a descale, and pull a waste shot before serving.

A machine that has gone for years without a descale needs more than the home procedure. We flush it on site and tell you what the scale has done.

Dialing in a Silvia: check the coffee before blaming the machine

Half the Silvia calls we get end with a change of grind and not a part. Before you book a repair, run a controlled test. It takes ten minutes and tells you whether the machine or the recipe is at fault.

1
Fresh beans

Use beans roasted within the last few weeks. Beans a month past roast give thin crema on a perfect machine.

2
Weigh the dose

Put 18 g in a 58 mm basket sized for it. Level the bed and tamp evenly.

3
Time the shot

Aim for about 36 g of espresso in 25 to 30 seconds, measured from the moment the pump starts.

4
Read the result

Under 20 seconds with a pale, fast stream means grind finer. Over 40 seconds with dripping means grind coarser.

5
Repeat on a flushed group

Run a little water through the group first so the boiler and portafilter are at a steady temperature.

6
Judge the machine

If the shot is right on time but sour or bitter, look at temperature. If it never settles whatever the grind, book a check.

A Rocky with burrs that drift is a common hidden cause. If you keep having to grind finer week after week for the same beans, the burrs are wearing. That is a grinder repair, and the Silvia is innocent.

Running a café machine when it fails during service

A machine that stops at nine in the morning needs a plan, not a panic. These steps save the most time.

Switch off at the machine and note exactly what happened. a bang, a smell, water on the floor, a tripped breaker, or plain loss of flow.
If there is water under the machine or a burning smell, leave the machine off and do not reset the breaker repeatedly.
Check the simple things in two minutes. mains water valve open, softener bypass not left open, drain not blocked, power switch on, and the machine filled to its level.
Send us the model, a photo of the plate, a short video of the fault and the time it began. The technician then arrives with the likely parts.
Keep a spare set of group gaskets, shower screens and a steam tip on site. They cost little and cover three common stoppages.
Serve from a grinder-and-batch-brew or a second machine if you have one, and tell us if the day cannot be recovered so we plan the visit around your opening hours.

After the repair we note what failed and why, so the same fault does not repeat. A café that has had two gasket failures in a year should move to a three-month gasket change.

Water treatment for a café Rancilio

Dubai tap water is hard, and a commercial boiler is the first place it shows. A softener and a filter are not optional extras on a machine that runs all day.

PartWhat it doesWhat to check
Carbon filterTakes out chlorine and tasteReplace on the date on the cartridge
SoftenerSwaps hardness minerals for sodium, so less scale formsResin regenerates, salt level is topped up, and the bypass is closed
Pressure regulatorHolds the line pressure steady for the pumpReading on the gauge matches the machine manual
DrainCarries away brew and flush waterFlows freely with no standing water

A common mistake is a softener that was fitted once and never touched again. An exhausted softener lets hard water straight through, and the owner believes the machine is protected. We test the water at the machine and tell you what we find.

Repair or replace a Rancilio

Rancilio machines are built to be maintained, which tilts most decisions towards repair.

Your machine and the faultOur honest view
Silvia with a gasket, screen, steam valve or basketRepair. It is cheap
Silvia with a pump, thermostat or solenoidRepair. The machine is worth it
Silvia with a leaking boilerAsk for a quote, then decide
Rocky with burrs or a motorUsually repair
Classe or Z-series with a gasket, valve or pumpRepair
Commercial machine with a failing boiler and a failed boardAsk for a quote; weigh it against a new machine
A very old machine with several failures at onceWeigh it carefully

Our rule is the same for every machine. When a quote approaches half the price of a comparable new machine, we recommend replacing it. For a good commercial machine that point is rarely reached.

Buying or inheriting a Rancilio second-hand

Used Rancilios change hands often, and one that has served for years can still be a good buy. Before you spend on it, check these.

The voltage on the plate. The UAE supply is 230 V. A machine built for 120 V must not run from a UAE socket, with or without a travel adaptor.
The group gasket and shower screen. Replace them as a matter of course.
The steam valve, the tip and the wand for leaks.
The boiler for signs of scale and leaks.
On a commercial machine, the phase and the power supply, since many need a three-phase or a high-current connection.

We can do a full check and service of a second-hand machine in one visit, so you know its condition and what it will need.

What happens at a Rancilio repair visit

1
Your message

Send the model, what the machine does, and a picture of the plate. For a café machine, tell us how long it has been down.

2
The quick test

The technician runs water from the group and the wand, listens to the pump and checks the gauges.

3
Pressure and heat

A test gauge measures the pressure at the group, and the temperature is checked.

4
Suspect parts

Gasket, screen, solenoid, thermostats, valves and the boiler are inspected before anything is replaced.

5
Quote and repair

The price is given once. On your approval the part is fitted straight away if we have it with us.

6
Test

A shot is pulled and steam is tested. You leave with an invoice and a month of cover on what was fitted.

A machine goes to the bench only with your agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Who repairs Rancilio machines in Dubai?

We repair them at your home, café or hotel, usually the same day. Message us on WhatsApp at +971 55 209 9785. A new machine or one on a supplier agreement should go to the dealer or supplier first.

How much does Rancilio repair cost in Dubai?

The visit is AED 100 plus VAT. The repair is AED 80 to AED 400 depending on the fault, and the price is agreed before work begins.

Why is my Rancilio Silvia not pumping water?

Test the brew function without a portafilter and the hot water from the wand. No water and no pump sound means a failed pump. Water at the wand but not the group means a clogged basket, screen or solenoid.

Why is my Rancilio Silvia leaking from the group?

The group gasket has worn or hardened. Replacing the gasket and cleaning the screen is a cheap repair.

Why is my Silvia steam weak?

The tip is probably blocked with dried milk, the steam valve may leak, or the steam thermostat may have failed. Soak the tip first.

Why is my Silvia espresso sour right after steaming?

The boiler is still at steaming temperature. Run a little water through the group to bring it down before the shot.

Can I backflush a Rancilio Silvia?

Yes, because it has a three-way solenoid. Use a blind basket and cleaner, run short bursts, then rinse with plain water.

Do you repair the Rancilio Rocky grinder?

Yes, including burrs, motor, collar and doser.

Do you repair Rancilio Classe machines in cafés?

Yes. We replace gaskets, pumps, valves and pressure parts, and we offer service visits and plans.

How often should I change group gaskets on a café machine?

Every three to six months is a good rule on a busy machine, and we check them at every visit.

Is it worth repairing an old Rancilio Silvia?

Usually yes. The design is simple and the wear parts are common, so a new gasket, a descale and a test of the pump and thermostats often buy several more years.

Can I use a 120 V Rancilio in the UAE?

Not on a UAE socket. A 120 V machine will be damaged, even through an adaptor. Check the plate before plugging in.
