Overview

Melitta is best known for filter coffee, and a lot of homes in Dubai have one of its fully automatic machines: the Caffeo CI, the Barista, the Solo or the Purista. These are bean-to-cup machines. Each grinds the beans, presses the grounds in a brewing unit, pushes hot water through, and drops the used puck into a grounds container. Most have a milk system as well.

When one stops, the display usually tells you something useful, and the manual often has the answer. The Caffeo CI manual lists a handful of faults, and almost every one of them comes back to the same four parts: the brewing unit, the grinder, the water path and the sensors. This page sets out what the manuals say about each fault, which ones you can clear yourself and which need a technician.

We repair Melitta machines at your home or office in Dubai, usually the same day. A technician reads the fault on the machine, tells you the price before touching anything and fixes it on the spot wherever the part allows. A machine that needs the workshop is collected from you.

Melitta coffee machine repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

The visit costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT, and the technician uses it to find the fault. You then get one price for the repair, and the decision is yours. Melitta repairs come between AED 80 and AED 400 depending on the fault.

Same-day visits. Message us on WhatsApp with the model and what the display shows.
Genuine parts. The quoted price covers the part and the labour.
On-site repair first. Complex faults go to the workshop, and we collect the machine.

A Melitta is not a machine to run for years without a descale. The manuals for the Caffeo CI and the Solo both put the descaling interval at about three months, and the cheapest repair on this table is the one you do before the machine stops.

Which Melitta do you have?

The name is on the front and the model code is on the rating plate on the back or underneath. A photo of the plate when you book tells the technician which parts to bring.

ModelWhat it isWhat the manual or support pages cover
Caffeo CIA fully automatic machine with a built-in milk system and a graphic displayCleaning programme, descaling programme, brewing unit care, troubleshooting
Caffeo Barista (T and TS)A higher range with a milk systemEasy Cleaning, milk system and coffee system cleaning, descaling, water hardness, water filter
Caffeo Solo and Solo and MilkA bean-to-cup machine with a steam pipe and a valve switch used in descalingDescaling in three phases, troubleshooting
PuristaA bean-to-cup rangeDescaling, brewing unit, bean quantity and water quantity
Passione and BellissimoOther Melitta fully automatic machinesWe repair these too. Check yours

Melitta's printed instructions differ from model to model, which is why the plate matters. The steps for removing the brewing unit and the buttons that reset it differ between models. A technician who has the model code can find the right procedure before arriving.

Who looks after your Melitta in Dubai?

We are an independent technician and not an authorised service partner of Melitta. The manuals give a hotline number in Germany for faults that the troubleshooting table cannot clear. For a new machine, the people to ask are the shop that sold it. Check the warranty card before anyone opens the machine.

If the warranty has ended, the dealer is not responsive, or the machine came from abroad, message us. We visit your home or office, charge AED 100 plus VAT for the diagnosis, name the repair price first and cover our work for a month.

How a Melitta works, and why that helps with diagnosis

Knowing the parts turns a vague complaint into a short test.

The water tank feeds a pump. If the tank is not seated, the machine reports it empty even when it is full, which Melitta's own FAQ lists as a reason for the fill-the-tank message.
A heater brings the water up to temperature. Scale coats it over time, which is why Melitta sets a descaling interval.
The grinder takes beans from the hopper. Oily beans can cling to the hopper and fail to drop, which the manuals list as a cause when the bean symbols flash.
The brewing unit receives the grounds, presses them and lets the water pass through. The CI manual says to rinse it under running water once a week.
A drive moves the brewing unit between positions. If the unit is removed and the drive is out of position, the unit cannot be put back until the drive is reset.
The grounds container and the drip tray catch the waste. A float in the drip tray tells the machine when it is full.
On models with milk, a tube and a milk distributor carry milk to the outlet. They need their own cleaning.

Most faults come from one of these seven parts, so a method that starts at the tank and ends at the brewing unit covers most of them.

Common Melitta faults and what the manuals say

Coffee only flows drop by drop

The Caffeo CI manual lists the cause as grinding fineness that is too fine. Its remedies are to set the grind coarser, clean the brewing unit, descale if necessary and run the integrated cleaning programme if necessary. Change the grind one step at a time and wait for a couple of cups between changes. If a coarser grind and a clean brewing unit do not fix the flow, scale or a blocked water path is the next suspect.

Coffee does not flow

The CI manual gives two causes: the water tank is not filled or not inserted correctly, or the brewing unit is obstructed. Fill the tank, push it fully home until it clicks and try again. Then clean the brewing unit. If the tank is seated and the unit is clean, the pump, a valve or the flow sensor is at fault, and that is a visit.

The grinder does not grind

The manual lists beans that do not drop into the grinder, because they are too oily, and says to tap lightly on the bean container. It also lists a tilt lever left upright on the CI, which should be moved to the right or left. The third cause is a foreign object in the grinder, and for that the manual says to call the hotline.

A loud grinder noise

The CI manual gives one cause, a foreign object in the grinder. A stone, a piece of husk or a hard seed can jam the burrs. Switch the machine off at the socket and do not run the grinder. We open the grinder, remove the object and check the burrs for chips.

The brewing unit will not go back in

The CI manual gives two causes. If the brewing unit is not properly locked, check that the locking handle is engaged. If the drive is not in the proper position, press the ON/OFF button and the My Coffee button together, and the machine runs its initialisation. Melitta's FAQ for the Purista gives a similar reset: check that the tank is filled and the drip tray is in, switch the machine off and on, then hold the Kaffee and 2 Tassen buttons for more than two seconds, and the drive moves into place.

The Solo manual's version is to switch off and on and press the single-cup and two-cup buttons for about two seconds. The buttons differ by model. Use the pair your manual names.

System error on the display

The CI manual lists a system error and says to switch the machine off and on again with the ON/OFF button, then call the hotline if that does not clear it. On the Solo, all the buttons flash together for a system error, and the manual says to restart and then send the appliance to the service department. A system error is a general message. It can come from a sensor, the drive, the heater or the board, so a restart that clears it for a day and fails the next is a reason to book.

The descaling symbol will not go out

Melitta's FAQ says the descaling programme was aborted. The fix is to run it again with Melitta ANTI CALC mixed as the pack says, filling the tank only to the 0.5 litre mark. If the programme will not start, check that the appliance is switched off before you begin, because the cleaning and descaling programmes start from the off state.

The display asks for water when the tank is full

Melitta's FAQ gives the answer: the tank is probably not seated correctly. It should click into the holder at the back. If it clicks home and the message stays, the tank sensor or its contacts may be dirty or worn.

The display asks to empty the drip tray after you did

Melitta's FAQ explains that the machine does not register the tray being emptied while it is switched off. Pull the drawer out while the machine is on, empty it and slide it back in. A tray that is empty and still reported full points to the float or the sensor.

The bean symbols flash

On the Purista, Melitta's FAQ says flashing bean symbols after grinding mean too little or no coffee was ground, and tells you to refill the bean container and brew again. The Solo manual also lists them for a full container where beans do not reach the grinder, with the same tap-the-container remedy.

Error messages and codes

Melitta's manuals use messages and symbols on the display, not long code lists. The ones the manuals give are below. Check your own manual for the symbols on your model.

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to try

All buttons flashing (Solo) or system error (CI)A general faultSwitch off and on. If it returns, book a visit
Error 30, Error 50These come only from a repair shop's page, which gives no definitionsPhotograph the screen and send it to us

One repair shop lists codes such as 30 and 50, and names broad causes: a blocked or wrongly inserted brewing unit, faulty temperature or level sensors, scale or air in the system, and electronics or communication faults. That list covers most of the machine, so a code on its own does not name the part. The code gives the technician somewhere to start, and the test finishes the job.

Cleaning and descaling programmes, in the manufacturer's words

Melitta machines have two separate programmes, and the manuals treat them as different jobs.

ProgrammeInterval in the CI manualTimeProduct
Integrated cleaning programmeEvery 2 months or about 200 cups, no later than the cleaning symbolAbout 10 minutesMelitta cleaning tablets only
Integrated descaling programmeEvery 3 months, or when the display asksAbout 25 minutes on the CI, about 30 on the SoloMelitta ANTI CALC only

The Solo manual gives the descaling time in phases: about 15 minutes for the first, about 10 for the second, and a third that finishes when the indicator lights. The CI gives about 20 minutes for the main phase and about 5 for the rinse.

Warnings from the manuals

Use only the Melitta product named for each job.
The CI manual says never to use vinegar or other descaling agents, and warns that the descaling agent can cause skin irritation.
The CI manual gives no dose in its text. It says to follow the instructions on the pack.
Remove the water filter before descaling, then put it back afterwards.
On the CI, place a container of about 0.7 litres under the outlet. On the Solo, slide the supplied hose over the steam pipe and place a container for the water.
Do not interrupt the programme. If it is interrupted by a power cut, the Solo manual says to run the rinsing programme the machine asks for.

For the general method and reasons, see our guide to descaling a coffee machine. For a Melitta, the manual for your model wins.

The brewing unit: care and removal

The brewing unit is the most handled part of a Melitta, and the cause of more faults than any other. The CI manual covers it in detail.

1
Switch the machine off

Do not take the unit out while it is running.

2
Remove the cover

The cover on the right comes off.

3
Release the unit

Press and hold the red button on the handle, turn the handle clockwise to the stop and take the unit out.

4
Rinse it

Rinse the unit on all sides under running water. Check the surface the manual shows for coffee residue.

5
Let it dry

Remove any coffee left in the machine with the unit out.

6
Refit it

Put the unit back and turn the handle anticlockwise to the stop. Refit the cover and turn it left until it locks.

The manual recommends rinsing the unit under running water once a week.
Never clean the brewing unit in the dishwasher.
Never reach into the machine while it is working.
If the unit will not go back in, the cause is the handle or the drive, not force.

A brewing unit that has been through the dishwasher, or forced, may be damaged. If the unit is cracked, warped or its seals are hard, we replace the part.

Milk system cleaning

Milk residue is a cause of bad taste and blocked flow on machines with a milk system. The CI manual describes two routines.

RoutineHow oftenWhat it involves
Easy CleaningAfter each milk drink, when the machine promptsPut a container under the outlet, connect the tube to the outlet and the tray and confirm. The machine rinses the milk system
Intensive CleaningAbout once a weekPut 50 ml of Melitta milk system cleaner in the milk container and fill to the 0.5 litre mark with warm tap water. Connect the tube and start the programme. Then rinse with 0.5 litre of fresh water
Use only the Melitta milk system cleaner for fully automatic machines.
Rinse the milk container, the milk distributor and the front cover with hot water regularly.
The manual says the milk container and the distributor can go in the dishwasher. The front cover with the chrome openings cannot.
Do not clean the outside with scouring cloths or sponges.

If milk comes out thin, spits or stops, we strip the tubes and the distributor, descale the path and replace perished seals or tubing.

Grinder, strength and water settings that look like faults

Some complaints are settings. These come from Melitta's own pages.

Melitta's Purista FAQ says the water quantity regulator sets the amount continuously from 30 ml to 220 ml.
The same FAQ says one bean on the strength setting uses about 7.5 g of coffee, two beans about 9.5 g and three beans about 11.5 g.
The brewing temperature is set in the service menu on that model. hold the Service button for more than two seconds, press it until the temperature option appears and choose low, medium or high.
Coffee that is weak or watery can be a strength or water setting. Coffee that is bitter or slow can be a grind that is too fine.
Water hardness is a setting. The Solo manual refers to a water hardness setting in connection with the descaling interval.

Check these before you book. A fault that is a setting costs nothing, and a fault that remains after you have checked them is easier for a technician to trace.

What a Melitta repair visit includes

1
Questions first

The technician asks what the display shows, when the fault began and whether the machine was descaled.

2
Visual check

Tank, drip tray, grounds container, hopper and the brewing unit.

3
Test

Running a rinse, a grind and a coffee with the covers off.

4
Diagnosis

The fault is traced to a part or a setting.

5
Quote

One price for the repair. You decide before any work starts.

6
Repair

On site where the part allows, or a workshop visit with collection.

7
Test and handover

We run a full coffee and the programme the fault affected, then explain what we changed.

8
Cover

A month of cover on everything we fit.

If the machine was due a descale, we tell you and show you where the scale is. A machine that is descaled and cleaned after a repair is less likely to bring the same fault back.

Is it worth repairing a Melitta?

Our rule is simple: repair if the cost is under about half the price of a new machine. Most Melitta faults come in well under that.

FaultUsually repair?Why
Brewing unit stuck or not refittingYesA reset or a clean in most cases
Coffee drops slowlyYesGrind, scale or a blocked path
Grinder jamYesRemove the object and test the burrs
Fill-water or tray messagesYesTank seat, float or sensor
Milk system problemsYesTubes, seals and cleaning
Heating element on an old machineCheck the quoteCompare with the machine's age and price
Control board on an old machineCheck the quoteA quote near half the new price makes replacement attractive
Machine years old, cracked bodyProbably replaceSeveral faults at once suggest wear

We say if a replacement makes more sense. A quote that tells you to buy a new machine costs you nothing but the visit fee.

Keeping a Melitta running: a plan

TaskHow often
Empty the grounds container and drip trayEvery day, with the machine on
Refresh the water in the tankEvery day
Rinse the brewing unit under running waterWeekly, according to the CI manual
Intensive milk system cleaningWeekly
Integrated cleaning programmeEvery 2 months or about 200 cups
DescaleEvery 3 months, or when the display asks
Check the grind and the beansWhen the coffee changes

The intervals come from the CI manual, and the Solo is similar for descaling. Change them to suit your water and how much you brew. A family drinking six cups a day reaches 200 cups faster than a couple who drink two.

A ten-minute check before you book

These checks cover the faults that need no tools. Work through them in order, because each one rules out a cheaper cause.

1
Look at the display

Write down the exact message or the symbols that flash. Take a photo.

2
Check the tank

Lift it out, fill it with fresh water and push it home until it clicks.

3
Check the trays

Pull out the drip tray and the grounds container with the machine on, empty them and slide them back.

4
Check the hopper

Tap the bean container lightly. If the beans are shiny with oil, they may cling to the walls and fail to drop.

5
Check the grind

If coffee only drips, set the grind coarser by a step and brew two cups.

6
Check the brewing unit

Switch the machine off, take the unit out as the manual shows, rinse it and refit it.

7
Restart the machine

Switch it off at the button, wait a minute and switch it on.

8
Check the programmes

If the cleaning or descaling symbol is showing, run that programme with the Melitta product for it.

If the fault survives all eight, you have saved the technician time, and you can tell us what you ruled out. That makes the diagnosis shorter.

Faults that usually need the workshop

We aim to repair on your premises, and most Melitta jobs finish there. A few take longer or need a bench.

FaultWhy it may need the workshop
Brewing unit with a damaged drive or cracked housingThe unit and its drive need testing out of the machine
Grinder with a seized motor or chipped burrsThe assembly has to come apart
Heating element or boilerThe machine is opened right down
Control boardTesting and replacement need a bench
Repeated system errorsSeveral suspects have to be tested one by one

When a machine goes to the workshop, we collect it, quote before any work is done and return it with a month of cover on the parts we fitted.

Offices and busy kitchens

The CI manual sets its cleaning interval in two ways: every two months or after about 200 cups, whichever you reach first. For a household that brews a few cups a day, two months arrives first. For an office, 200 cups can pass in a week or two.

Count cups, not weeks, when you decide when to run the cleaning programme.
Put one person in charge of the machine. Emptying the trays and refilling the tank takes a minute, and a machine with a named keeper stays cleaner.
Keep the Melitta cleaning tablets, the descaler and the milk cleaner together in one place, with the dates of the last run written on the lid.
Use fresh beans from a bag you can finish. Oily beans are more likely to stick in the hopper, which the manuals list as a cause of grinder faults.
If a machine serves many people, report the first odd message rather than working round it.

For a machine that is central to an office, we can also set up a service visit at an interval to suit your volume. Ask when you book.

Water filters and hardness

Melitta machines can use a water filter, and the CI manual gives it a chapter of its own. The CI manual says the filter has to be removed before the descaling programme and put back afterwards. The Barista manual lists a water hardness setting and a filter chapter in its contents.

Take the filter out before you start the descaling programme.
Put it back when the programme has finished.
Set the water hardness in the menu if your model has the setting. It decides how often the machine asks you to descale.
Follow the manual for how often to replace the filter.

A filter lengthens the time between descales. It does not remove the need to descale.

What to tell us when you book

Five details let us bring the right parts and give you a firmer idea of the price in our reply.

The model name and, if you can read it, the code on the plate.
A photo of the display or the flashing symbols.
What the machine does when you start a coffee. nothing, a noise, water, a stop part way.
When it was last descaled, and if it has a water filter fitted.
Whether it makes milk drinks, and whether the milk system was cleaned recently.

If you have already tried the steps on this page, tell us which. We start where you stopped.

Frequently asked questions

Who repairs Melitta coffee machines in Dubai?

We repair them at your home or office, usually the same day. Message us on WhatsApp at +971 55 209 9785. A new machine under warranty should go back to the shop first.

How much does Melitta coffee machine repair cost in Dubai?

The visit is AED 100 plus VAT. The repair is AED 80 to AED 400 depending on the fault, and the price is agreed before work begins.

Why does my Melitta only drip coffee?

The grind may be too fine, the brewing unit may be dirty, or scale may be narrowing the path. Set the grind coarser, rinse the brewing unit and run the descaling programme if it is due.

Why won't my Melitta brewing unit go back in?

The locking handle may not be engaged, or the drive is out of position. Switch off and on and use the button pair your manual names to reset the drive. If it still will not refit, book a visit.

Why does my Melitta say the water tank is empty when it is full?

The tank is probably not seated. Push it home until it clicks. If the message stays, the sensor or contacts may be dirty.

Can I use vinegar to descale a Melitta?

No. The Caffeo CI manual says never to use vinegar or other descaling agents, and names Melitta ANTI CALC.

How often should I descale a Melitta?

The CI and Solo manuals say every three months, or when the display asks.

What does a system error mean on a Melitta?

It is a general fault message. Switch the machine off and on. If it returns, a sensor, the drive, the heater or the board may be at fault and the machine needs a visit.

Is it safe to put the brewing unit in the dishwasher?

No. The CI manual says never to clean the brewing unit in the dishwasher.

Do you repair the Melitta milk system?

Yes. We clean and descale the path, replace tubes, seals and the distributor, and test the froth.

My Melitta grinder is loud. What now?

Switch off at the socket. The manuals list a foreign object in the grinder. Book a visit and we remove it and check the burrs.

Is it worth repairing an old Melitta?

Usually yes for brewing unit, grinder, milk and sensor faults. For a heater or board on an old machine, compare the quote with the price of a new one.
