Overview

One Click Dubai repairs Scotsman ice machines across Dubai, with a technician on site the same day. We repair and service Scotsman Prodigy and Prodigy Plus cubers, flake and nugget machines, undercounter units and older CME models, for restaurants, cafes, hotels, bars, clinics and offices.

A Scotsman tells you a good deal about its own fault, through its lights and the code on its display. This page explains what those signals mean, why a Scotsman stops making or dropping ice, how cleaning and descaling are done and how often, which parts fail, and what a repair involves.

We fit genuine Scotsman parts, matched to the model and serial number on the machine's nameplate. Whether you call it an ice machine or an ice maker, the service is the same.

Scotsman ice machine repair in Dubai: the short answers

Scotsman ice machine repair in Dubai from One Click Dubai starts with a AED 100 diagnostic visit, plus VAT. The technician reads the stored codes, tests the machine through a freeze and harvest, finds the fault and gives a fixed price before any repair.

QuestionAnswer
How soon can you come? The same day, at any hour
Which Scotsman machines?Modular cubers, flake and nugget machines, undercounter units, ice and water dispensers, and older CME models
Which parts?Genuine Scotsman parts. About 90% of what we use across all brands is in stock
Do you do refrigeration work?Yes: leak repair, recovery, evacuation and recharge by weight
Do you clean and descale?Yes, by Scotsman's own procedure
What does the visit cost?AED 100 plus VAT, with no night or weekend surcharge
Is the repair covered?Yes. One month on parts and labour

The model and serial number are on a plate at the back of the machine and usually repeated inside, behind the front panel. A Prodigy cuber's model starts with C, a flaker's with F and a nugget machine's with N, followed by numbers that give its capacity and width.

Scotsman ice machine troubleshooting: not making ice

Scotsman ice machine troubleshooting starts with the display, the water and the air. A Scotsman ice maker not making ice has one of five causes in most cases: the bin control thinks the bin is full, no water is reaching the machine, the machine needs cleaning, the condenser cannot reject heat, or a part in the freeze or harvest sequence has failed.

What you seeLikely causeWhat to check

Start with the simple checks

1
Look at the display and lights

Note the code and which lights are on before touching anything.

2
Check the water

Tap open, and the filter cartridge not overdue. A blocked filter starves the machine.

3
Check the air

Clean the air filter on the front of air-cooled machines. Make sure nothing is stacked against the vents.

4
Check the bin

Ice should not be piled against the sensor or the curtain.

5
Check the room

A machine in a hot, closed room or beside an oven produces far less than its rating.

Ice machines are rated at mild air and water temperatures. In a Dubai kitchen at 35 degrees with incoming water at 30, a machine makes considerably less than its nameplate figure while working perfectly. If a machine has become too small for the business, no repair will change that, and we tell you.

Scotsman ice machine not harvesting or not dropping ice

A Scotsman ice machine not harvesting has formed ice on the evaporator plate that will not release, or has released it and not registered that it fell. Scale is the leading cause, because ice grips a rough, scaled plate far harder than a clean one.

How a Scotsman cuber makes and drops ice

Water is pumped over a cold vertical plate and freezes into a slab of cubes joined by a thin bridge. A sensor in front of the plate detects when the ice has reached the set thickness and ends the freeze. The machine then sends hot refrigerant gas through the plate to warm it just enough to release the slab, and drains the mineral-heavy water left in the sump. The slab slides off, pushes a hinged curtain open as it falls into the bin, and the curtain swinging back tells the controller the harvest is complete. Then the cycle starts again.

Each part of that sequence has its own sensor, and the controller times each stage. A stage that takes too long or ends too soon produces a code, which is why the codes point so directly at the fault.

Scotsman lights and codes: red light blinking, status light and code 8

A Scotsman Prodigy shows its condition through four indicator lights and a single-character code display. A blinking red light means the machine has stopped or needs attention, and the code display says why.

The four lights

LightNormalWhen it signals a problem
PowerOn whenever the controller has powerOff: no supply to the controller
StatusOn when the machine is switched on to make iceBlinking: the machine needs attention. Read the code
WaterOffOn: lack of water
De-scale and SanitizeOffOn: the cleaning interval has expired. Clean the machine

5Sump temperature sensor failureSensor or its wiring
7Discharge temperature sensor failureSensor or its wiring
8Short freeze. Flashing 8: thin ice from a short freezeIce thickness sensor scaled or splashed, distributor blocked

Code 8 flashing

Scotsman ice machine code 8 flashing means the freeze cycle ended too soon and the ice came out thin. The thickness sensor has been triggered early, usually by scale on its probe or by water splashing onto it from a partly blocked distributor. Cleaning the sensor and descaling the water system cures it in most cases.

Flake and nugget machine codes

CodeScotsman's meaningUsual cause
1No ice sensed. Flashing: restarting. Steady: manual reset neededNo water, refrigeration fault, dirty ice sensor in the chute
2Auger motor high load. Flashing: restarting. Steady: manual reset neededScale in the evaporator, worn bearings, ice jam
3Slow water fill, or no water in the reservoirSupply, filter, float or inlet valve
4Refrigeration pressure too high or too lowCondenser, fan, charge

On flake and nugget machines, a no-ice or auger fault restarts by itself after a wait. After three in a row, the machine shuts down and needs a manual reset, which is the controller telling you the fault is real.

Older CME cubers

CME models have no code display. They use a water light and a refrigeration light, steady or blinking a number of times. In general, the water light points to the pump, the water level or the inlet valve, and the refrigeration light to a long freeze, a harvest problem or high discharge temperature. Count the blinks and tell us with the model number.

Resetting a Scotsman ice machine

To reset a Scotsman Prodigy, press Off, wait, and press On. To clear a stored diagnostic code, Scotsman's instruction is to press and hold the Clean and Off buttons together for three seconds. A reset restarts the machine. It does not repair the cause.

ButtonWhat it does
OnStarts ice making
OffStops the machine at the end of the cycle. Hold to stop at once
CleanStarts the cleaning cycle
Clean and Off held together for three secondsClears diagnostic codes

Is there a Scotsman reset button?

There is no separate reset button on a Prodigy. The On and Off buttons on the controller do the job. Older and smaller models may have a manual reset on a high pressure safety switch, which trips if the condenser overheats. If that switch has tripped, find out why before resetting: a blocked condenser or a dead fan will trip it again within minutes.

Resetting the de-scale and sanitize light

The De-scale and Sanitize light switches off when a full cleaning cycle has been completed. It is a reminder based on running time, set to six months by default and adjustable to four months, a year or off. Clearing the light without cleaning the machine defeats its purpose.

When to stop resetting

If the same code returns after one reset, the machine is reporting a real fault. Repeated restarts on a high temperature or long freeze code strain the compressor. Note the code, switch the machine off and call.

Scotsman ice machine cleaning, descaling and sanitising

Scotsman ice machine cleaning has two parts: descaling, which dissolves mineral scale from the water system and evaporator, and sanitising, which kills the slime and bacteria that grow in a wet, cool machine. Both are needed, and they use different products.

StepWhat is doneWhy
Empty the binAll ice removed and discardedCleaning solution must not reach ice that will be served
Start the clean cyclePress Clean. The machine circulates water and prompts for the solutionThe controller runs the pump and rinses in the right order
Add scale removerScotsman's nickel-safe scale remover, at the dilution in the manualDissolves scale without attacking the evaporator plating
Circulate and rinseThe cycle circulates the solution, then flushes with fresh waterCarries dissolved scale away
Remove and scrub partsCurtain, distributor, water trough, sensors, pump hoseScale and slime hide where circulation does not reach
SanitiseSanitiser solution circulated through the same path, parts wipedKills bacteria, mould and yeast
Clean the binBin liner, door and scoop washed and sanitisedThe bin is where ice sits longest
Clean the condenser and air filterBrush and vacuum, or wash the filterRestores capacity
Restart and discardFirst batches of ice thrown awayRemoves any trace of solution

How often

Scotsman's reminder light is set to six months by default. In Dubai, where incoming water is warm and a machine may run around the clock, many sites need cleaning every three to four months, and bakeries or bars with yeast in the air need sanitising more often still. Slime that is pink or black in the bin or on the curtain means the interval is too long.

Why the right descaler matters

The evaporator plate has a plated surface that ice releases from cleanly. Strong acids and unsuitable cleaners strip that plating, after which ice sticks to the bare metal and the plate has to be replaced. Use only the nickel-safe scale remover Scotsman specifies, at the stated strength, for the stated time.

After cleaning

A machine that will not make ice after cleaning has nearly always had a part refitted wrongly. Check that the curtain hangs and swings freely with its magnet in place, that the ice thickness sensor is seated and set, that the distributor is fully home and that the pump hose is connected.

Scotsman water filter and water quality

A Scotsman ice machine needs clean, cool water at steady pressure. Most scale, slow-fill and cloudy-ice complaints start with the water, not the machine.

Water problemEffect on the machineRemedy
Hard water, high mineral contentScale on the plate and sensors, short freeze, long harvestScale-inhibiting filter, more frequent descaling
SedimentBlocked inlet screen and distributor holesSediment pre-filter, changed on time
ChlorineTaste and smell, attack on stainless parts over timeCarbon filter
Warm supply waterLower productionInsulate or reroute the supply. Allow for it in sizing
Low pressureSlow fill, code 3Check the supply and the filter. Change the cartridge
Overdue filter cartridgeStarves the machine, grows bacteriaReplace at the stated interval, commonly six months

Scotsman supplies its own filter systems and replacement cartridges for its machines. A cartridge left in too long does more harm than no filter at all, because it restricts flow and harbours growth. We replace cartridges as part of a service and write the date on the housing.

Storage tanks and building pipework add sediment and warmth to the supply. A machine fed from a roof tank in summer receives water far warmer than its rating assumes, and its filter loads up faster.

Scotsman parts that fail, and how we test them

A small number of parts account for most Scotsman repairs. Each has a clear symptom and a simple test, and each is replaced with a genuine Scotsman part.

We test before replacing. A water inlet valve that passes a little water all the time, for instance, shows as a long freeze, and replacing a sensor would not cure it.

Scotsman flake ice machine troubleshooting: auger and bearing faults

Scotsman flake and nugget ice machines work differently from cubers, and their faults are mechanical more often than electrical. Water freezes on the inside wall of a vertical cylinder, and a rotating auger scrapes the ice off and pushes it upward. In a nugget machine, the ice is then forced through small openings that press out water and form the nuggets.

SymptomCauseRepair
Squealing, groaning or chatteringScale in the evaporator loading the auger, or worn bearingsDescale. Inspect and replace bearings
Code 2, auger motor high loadScale, worn bearings, ice packed in the chuteAs above. Clear the chute
Water dripping from under the evaporatorWorn water seal at the bottom of the augerNew seal, and check the lower bearing
Code 1, no ice sensedNo water, low charge, or the photo-electric ice sensor dirtyCheck supply and float. Clean the sensor eyes. Check refrigeration
Soft, wet iceWorn auger or breaker, or water level too highInspect the auger. Set the float
Gear motor hot or trippingOverload from scale or bearing failureFind the cause before replacing the motor
Low productionDirty condenser, warm water, scale insulating the evaporatorClean, descale

Why descaling matters even more on these machines

On a cuber, scale makes poor ice. On a flaker or nugget machine, scale makes the auger work against a rough surface, which loads the bearings and the gear motor. Left unattended, the top bearing fails, the auger rubs the evaporator wall, and the evaporator, the most expensive part of the machine, is scored. Regular descaling and a bearing inspection at each service prevent it.

Bearings and the water seal are replaced as a set. We check the auger and the evaporator bore for wear at the same time and tell you their condition.

Remote condenser modelsCondenser on the roof, ice head indoorsLong refrigerant lines. Roof condensers need cleaning before summer

For large machines, such as the 1,000 lb a day class of modular heads, the condenser and the room's ventilation decide how much ice is actually made in summer. Remote condensers on Dubai roofs need the same pre-summer coil cleaning as any air conditioner.

Installation and siting faults

A Scotsman that has never produced what it should, or that fails every summer, often has a siting problem and not a faulty part.

Ventilation. air-cooled machines need clear space around their air intake and outlet. Boxed into a counter, they recirculate their own hot air.
Room temperature. a machine beside ovens or in an unventilated store loses a large part of its output.
Water supply. a line too small, a long run from a roof tank, or a shared supply that drops in pressure at busy times.
Drain. bin and machine drains need a fall and an air gap. A drain that backs up floods the bin and contaminates the ice.
Level. the machine must be level for water to spread evenly across the plate.
Electrical supply. a dedicated circuit of the right rating. Low voltage stalls compressors.
Bin match. a head mounted on the wrong bin or adapter lets ice bridge and block the chute.

We check siting at every visit and correct what can be corrected: relocating a machine, adding ventilation, rerouting a drain or fitting a water-cooled or remote condenser model where the room is simply too hot.

Scotsman maintenance schedule and contracts

A Scotsman ice machine kept on a regular schedule rarely breaks down. The tasks are simple, and most failures we attend trace back to one of them being skipped.

Repair cost, and repair or replace

Most Scotsman repairs are a single part: a valve, pump, sensor, switch or fan motor. These are modest repairs and always worth doing. Refrigeration work, evaporators and compressors cost more, and for those the age and condition of the machine decide.

RepairScale of jobUsually worth doing?
Clean, descale and sanitiseRoutine serviceAlways

CompressorLargeYes on a machine in good condition. Compare on an old one

The diagnostic visit is AED 100 plus VAT, and you receive a fixed price before any repair. Scotsman machines are built for long service, and a well-kept one is usually worth repairing. The exception is a machine with a stripped evaporator, a failed compressor and years of scale all at once, where a new machine is the better use of the money.

Undercounter Scotsman ice makers: CU50, SCN60 and DCE33

The small Scotsman ice makers fitted under counters in villas, majlis kitchens, yachts and offices have their own faults. The CU50 makes clear gourmet cubes, the SCN60 makes soft nugget ice, and the DCE33 is an older cuber still found in many homes.

Cleaning a Scotsman CU50 or SCN60

These machines have a built-in cleaning cycle started from the control panel. The bin is emptied, the specified scale remover is added as the manual directs, the cycle circulates and rinses, and the bin and scoop are washed and sanitised by hand. The condenser behind the front grille is vacuumed at the same time. In a home, twice a year is a sensible interval, and more often where the machine runs all day.

The drain

An undercounter ice maker produces melt water continuously, and it has to go somewhere. Gravity-drain models need a drain point lower than the machine with a steady fall. Where the drain is higher or far away, the machine needs a drain pump. A Scotsman ice maker drain pump that has failed leaves water standing in the bin and usually stops the machine. We replace the pump and check the hose for kinks behind the cabinet.

Frequently asked questions

Who repairs Scotsman ice machines in Dubai?

One Click Dubai repairs Scotsman machines on site, the same day. Call or WhatsApp +971 55 209 9785.

Why is my Scotsman ice machine not making ice?

The bin sensor reads full, water is not reaching the machine, it needs cleaning, the condenser is blocked, or a part in the freeze or harvest sequence has failed. Read the code on the display first.

What does a blinking red light mean on a Scotsman ice machine?

The machine needs attention or has shut down. The code on the display gives the reason.

What does code 8 mean on a Scotsman?

A short freeze cycle, giving thin ice. The ice thickness sensor is usually scaled or being splashed.

What do codes 1 and 2 mean?

On a cuber, 1 is a long freeze and 2 is a long harvest. On a flake or nugget machine, 1 is no ice sensed and 2 is high auger motor load.

How do I reset a Scotsman ice machine?

Press Off, then On. To clear a stored code, hold Clean and Off together for three seconds. If the code returns, the fault is real.

How often should a Scotsman ice machine be cleaned?

Scotsman's reminder is set to six months by default. In Dubai, every three to four months suits many sites.

Why is my Scotsman not dropping ice?

Scale on the evaporator plate is the usual cause. A curtain switch or hot gas valve fault is the next most likely.

Why is my Scotsman flaker making a squealing noise?

Scale in the evaporator or worn auger bearings. Switch it off and have it checked before the evaporator is damaged.

Do you fit genuine Scotsman parts?

Yes, matched to the model and serial number.

Is there Scotsman ice machine customer service in Dubai?
