One Click Dubai technician repairing an LG refrigerator ice maker

Overview

One Click Dubai repairs LG ice makers at home across Dubai, with a technician sent the same day. We repair the in-door ice makers, freezer ice makers, Craft Ice makers and ice and water dispensers on LG French door, side by side and bottom freezer refrigerators, including InstaView and ThinQ models, and fit genuine LG ice maker assemblies.

LG builds three different ice makers into its fridges, sometimes two in the same fridge, and each fails in its own way. The slim in-door unit suffers from a frozen fill tube. The freezer unit is simple and depends on the freezer being properly cold. The Craft Ice maker is slow by design and is often reported as faulty when it is working. This page takes each in turn.

LG ice maker repair in Dubai: the short answers

LG ice maker repair in Dubai from One Click Dubai starts with a AED 100 diagnostic visit, plus VAT. The technician checks the freezer temperature, the water fill and the ice maker's test cycle, finds the fault and gives a fixed price before any repair.

Which LG ice maker do you have?

An LG refrigerator has an ice maker in the left-hand door, in the freezer, or both. Identify which one has stopped, because the checks differ.

Ice makerWhere it isWhat it makesTypical faults
In-door ice maker, which LG calls Slim SpacePlusInside the left fresh food door on French door models, behind a hinged cover, feeding the door dispenserCubes, and crushed ice through the dispenserFrozen fill tube, tray not turning, ice bin frozen or jammed, door not sealing
Freezer ice makerUpper left of the freezer compartment or drawer on bottom freezer and some French door modelsCubes into a bin you scoop fromSwitched off, freezer too warm, water supply, unit failure
Craft Ice makerIn the freezer drawer on selected modelsLarge, slow-melting round iceSlow output mistaken for a fault, water supply, misshapen spheres
Side by side ice makerIn the freezer door or compartmentCubes and crushed ice through the dispenserFill tube, clumped ice, auger and chute

A fridge with both an in-door maker and a freezer or Craft Ice maker has two separate water outlets on its inlet valve and two separate controls. The same layouts appear on French door models such as LFX31925ST, LFX28968ST and LMXS30776S and on side by side models such as LSXS26326S and LSXS26366S. One can fail while the other carries on, and that is useful evidence: if both have stopped, look at the shared items, which are the supply, the filter and the freezer temperature.

LG ice maker not making ice

An LG ice maker not making ice is switched off, short of water, too warm or has a frozen fill tube in most cases. Unit failure comes after those. Check in this order.

CheckHowIf that is the cause
Power switch on the ice makerLG ice makers have their own on/off switch on the unit. On the in-door type it is behind the ice bin or the compartment coverSwitch it on. It is easily knocked off when the bin is refitted

LG fridge not making ice, bottom freezer models

On bottom freezer and freezer-drawer ice makers the commonest causes are the switch, a drawer left slightly open so the compartment runs warm, and frost on the rear wall cutting the airflow. Check that the drawer closes fully and nothing is stopping the bin from seating.

LG ThinQ refrigerator not making ice

A ThinQ fridge has the same ice maker as its non-connected equivalent. The app adds two things: it can switch ice making and Ice Plus on or off remotely, so check nobody has turned it off, and it offers Smart Diagnosis, which reports stored faults. Tell us what it shows.

Not making ice and the freezer is not cooling

If the freezer is soft as well, the ice maker is not the fault. The cause is in the cooling system: a defrost fault, an evaporator fan, or the Inverter Linear compressor and sealed system. That is a refrigerator repair, and the ice maker will restart by itself once the freezer is cold again. See refrigerator repair.

Our guide to an LG ice maker not working follows these steps in more detail.

How to reset and test an LG ice maker

An LG ice maker is reset by switching it off and on at its own switch, and tested with the test button, which forces one harvest and fill. The test tells you whether the mechanism and the water supply both work.

1
Open the ice compartment

On an in-door unit, open the left door and the ice room cover and remove the ice bin. On a freezer unit, pull out the bin.

2
Switch off, wait, switch on

Turn the ice maker's switch off for about 30 seconds and back on. This clears a stalled cycle.

3
Put a towel or container under the ice maker

Water will be released.

4
Press and hold the test button

It is a small button on the ice maker body, usually underneath or on the front edge. Hold it for about three seconds.

5
Watch

The tray should twist to empty, return level and then fill with water.

6
Refit the bin and wait

If the test ran and water arrived, allow a few hours for the first ice.

Test resultMeaning
Tray turns and water arrivesIce maker and supply are sound. Look at temperature, the switch and the feeler arm
Tray turns, no waterFrozen fill tube, inlet valve or supply
Tray does not turn, so the ice maker is not dumping iceIce maker motor failed, or the tray is frozen in place
Nothing at allNo power to the unit: switch, connector, door wiring or control board
Water overflowsTray was already full, or the valve is staying open

Run the test once. Repeating it with water already in the tray floods the compartment, and that water freezes around the ice maker.

Ice Plus is not a reset. It runs the freezer colder for 24 hours to speed up ice making, which helps before a party and does nothing for a fault.

LG ice maker not filling with water

An LG ice maker not filling with water, when the door dispenser still works, almost always has a frozen fill tube. On in-door models the water has to travel up through the door hinge and across to the ice maker through cold spaces, and the last section freezes shut.

SymptomLikely causeRepair
Dispenser works, tray stays dry, valve buzzes on testFill tube frozenThaw. Replace the inlet valve if it seeps. Check the tube's position and heater where fitted
Dispenser works, tray dry, no buzzIce maker side of the inlet valve, or no fill signal from the ice makerTest and replace

Small or hollow cubesShort fill: filter or pressureFilter. Pressure check
Fills, then leaks from the doorTube out of its cup, or crackedRefit or replace the tube

Why LG fill tubes freeze

The tube should be empty between fills. A valve that does not seat firmly lets a trickle through, and each drop freezes in the tube until it is plugged. Low water pressure makes valves seat poorly, a filter left too long lowers the pressure further, and a door that is not closing fully lets the tube get colder than intended. Thawing treats the symptom. The valve, the filter or the door seal is the cure.

See our guide to an ice maker not filling with water.

LG ice maker frozen or freezing up

An LG ice maker freezing up has water spilling or dripping where it should not, or humid air reaching the ice compartment. On in-door models the compartment is a small freezer set into a fridge door, so its seal matters a great deal.

What you seeCauseRepair
Ice bin frozen solid or stuckIce partly melted and refrozen: compartment cover not latched, door seal leaking, long door openingsEmpty. Check cover, gasket and door closure

Slab of ice under the trayOverfill or a fill that misses the trayValve or tube position
Ice chute blocked with frostChute flap not sealingFlap or its motor
Whole freezer frostingA door seal or defrost fault in the fridgeRefrigerator repair

To defrost an in-door ice compartment, switch the ice maker off, empty the bin and leave the cover open with the fridge door open for a short while, or warm it gently with a hair dryer on low. Do not use sharp tools. The tray is thin plastic and the fill tube is fragile.

More on this in our guide to an ice maker not freezing or cold.

LG ice dispenser and water dispenser not working

An LG ice dispenser not working, with ice in the bin, has clumped ice, a bin that is not seated on its drive, a failed auger motor, a stuck chute door or a control fault. Check the lock first: a padlock icon on the display means the panel is locked.

SymptomCauseRepair

The wiring loom and the water tube both pass through the top hinge of the left door. Years of opening and closing can fatigue a wire there, and the sign is a dispenser that works with the door in one position and not another. See our guide to an ice maker not dispensing or dropping ice.

LG fridge leaking water from the ice maker

An LG fridge leaking water from the ice maker shows as drips down the inside of the left door, a puddle at the dispenser, ice on the freezer floor or water under the fridge. The location identifies the cause.

WhereCauseRepair

Close the supply tap whenever you find water behind or under the fridge, and keep it closed until the leak is found.

LG Craft Ice maker: slow, misshapen or not working

The LG Craft Ice maker produces large round ice slowly, about three spheres every 24 hours in normal mode, and stores a small number in its own bin. Most reports of a Craft Ice fault are that pace seen for the first time.

ComplaintExplanation or causeWhat to do
Only a few ice balls a dayNormal. Round clear ice is frozen slowly on purposeUse the higher output mode if your model has one, which makes more ice that is less clear
No Craft Ice after installationThe first batch can take up to 48 hoursWait. Check Craft Ice is switched on at the panel or in the app
Half spheres, or spheres with flat sidesLow water fill: filter or pressureNew filter. Check supply
Spheres joined together or with a ring around themOverfill, or the mould not closing fullyService
Cloudy spheresExpected in the faster mode. In normal mode, check the filterNew filter
Stopped entirely while the door ice maker worksCraft Ice switched off, its fill tube frozen, or the unit failedCheck the setting. Service
Water or ice under the Craft Ice makerFill fault or a mould leakService

The Craft Ice maker has its own outlet on the water valve and its own control, so its faults are diagnosed separately from the door ice maker. Keep the freezer drawer closing fully. A drawer left ajar on a tray handle is enough to slow it further.

Noises from an LG ice maker

An LG ice maker makes a handful of normal sounds. Learn them and the abnormal ones stand out.

SoundSourceNormal?
Short buzz or hum, then tricklingWater valve filling the trayYes
Creak, then a rattle of cubesTray twisting and ice droppingYes
Buzz with no water followingValve opening against a closed tap or frozen tubeNo
Repeated clicking from the ice makerMotor stalling against a frozen or jammed trayNo
Loud grinding when dispensingAuger forcing clumped iceNo. Empty the bin
Flapping or ticking from the freezer wallFan blade touching frostNo. A defrost fault

LG water filters and supply

LG asks for the refrigerator water filter to be changed about every six months, and the ice maker is the first thing to suffer when it is not. A loaded filter cuts the fill, which makes small or hollow cubes and encourages the fill tube to freeze.

Use the filter type marked on the old cartridge. LT1000P and LT700P are two of the common LG types, and they do not interchange.
After a change, run several litres through the dispenser and discard the first batch or two of ice.
Hold the filter button for three seconds to reset the indicator.
A new filter that reduces the flow or leaks is usually a poor copy.
If the flow is weak with a good filter, check the supply tap is fully open and the line behind the fridge is not kinked or crushed.
Villas fed from a roof tank without a pump may have too little pressure for the valve to close firmly.

LG ice maker replacement

LG ice maker replacement is the repair when the unit will not run a test cycle with power present, the tray is cracked or will no longer release cubes, or the motor has failed. We fit genuine LG assemblies chosen from the model number, since LG uses several different units that look alike.

FindingReplace the ice maker?
No test cycle, power at the connectorYes
Tray cracked or warped, cubes stickYes
Motor clicks, tray freeYes
Test runs, no waterNo. Fill tube, valve or supply
Compartment frostedFix the air leak first
No power at the connectorNo. Wiring or board
Freezer warmNo. Cooling fault
1
Switch off the ice maker and the fridge

At the wall.

2
Remove the bin and cover

On in-door units the compartment cover unclips.

3
Undo the fixing screws

Usually two or three.

4
Unplug the connector and lift the unit out

Check the fill tube is clear while it is exposed.

5
Fit the new unit, switch on and test

Watch a full cycle and fill before refitting the bin.

Replacement of a bottom freezer ice maker takes about half an hour. An in-door unit takes longer if the compartment needs defrosting. If a new unit does not start, see our guide to a new or replaced ice maker not working.
