Overview

Bosch coffee machines in Dubai range from the compact VeroCup and VeroAroma to the VeroBarista, VeroSelection and VeroCafe fully automatic machines, the Tassimo pod machines and the built-in units fitted into kitchen columns. Most owners meet the same few problems. The display asks for the brewing unit to be cleaned, the water tank is full and the machine says it is empty, the grind dial turns stiffly, drinks will not dispense, or the machine wants descaling again.

This page sets out what Bosch's own support pages and manuals say about each of those problems, how Bosch wants its machines descaled, what the display messages mean, where the pages go quiet and who to call in the UAE. We used Bosch's UAE site, its UK and US support pages, the VeroCafe manual and the manual for the built-in CTL636 series.

If your machine is under warranty, start with Bosch's UAE customer service. If it is out of warranty, or you want it seen today, our technicians come to your home or office, tell you the fault and the price before a part is fitted, and repair on site wherever the machine allows.

Bosch coffee machine repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

The visit costs AED 100 plus 5% VAT and pays for finding the fault. If you go ahead, most Bosch repairs cost between AED 80 and AED 400, depending on the part. The price is agreed first.

Same-day visits in most cases. Send the model number from the rating plate and a photo of the display.
Genuine parts, quoted with the labour.
One month of cover on the part and the work.

Which Bosch do you have?

The model name is on the front or the display, and the full product number is on the rating plate. Bosch uses names such as VeroCup, VeroBarista and VeroAroma, and product numbers such as TIE20504 or TES803. Send us whichever you can see.

Who looks after your Bosch in the UAE?

Bosch's UAE site lists its customer service as HOMEWIDE LLC, with a WhatsApp contact and a BSH support line. Its repair page says Bosch can arrange repairs for appliances inside and outside warranty.

Your machineWho to call first
Under the Bosch warrantyBosch UAE customer service, with the invoice and the product number
Out of warrantyUs, or Bosch if you prefer their workshop

Bosch's UAE page on its fully automatic machines gives no fault list. It says that if the machine malfunctions you should contact customer service, and that Bosch repairs it in its service workshop. We are an independent repair company. We do not speak for Bosch, and our repair does not extend a warranty.

Bosch display messages: causes and remedies

The messages below come from Bosch's UK support pages and from the VeroCafe and CTL636 manuals. Bosch's UAE pages give no fault list, so your UAE machine may word a message slightly differently. The last column is what we do when the remedy has not worked.

Bosch's UK page for the water message adds that if the problem persists you should contact customer service. For E0510 it gives no cause beyond a fault, so we read the board.

Bosch coffee grinder repair

Searches for Bosch coffee grinder repair are usually about the built-in grinder in a fully automatic machine. Bosch's pages give several causes, from simple to serious.

A stiff grind adjustment is blamed on too many beans in the grinding unit. Brew a drink to clear the beans, then change the grind setting in small steps with a few beans at a time.
Beans too oily to fall into the grinder give a fill-bean-container message even with a full hopper. Tap the container, try another coffee and wipe the empty container dry.
A grind that is too fine slows the coffee to a trickle, and the VeroCafe manual turns the grinder selector to a coarser setting for that.
The VeroCafe safety notes say never to reach into the grinder while it runs.

When it is not the beans

A grinder that makes a harsh noise and does not grind may have a stone or other hard object in it. Switch off and unplug. Do not run it to see.
A grinder that runs and produces no coffee may have worn burrs or a motor fault.
A selector that stays stiff after the hopper is cleared needs the grinder opened.

We open the grinder, remove the object, test the burrs and the motor, and tell you the price before we replace anything. For stand-alone grinders and other bean-to-cup makes, see our bean-to-cup repair page.

Descaling a Bosch coffee machine: Calc'n'Clean

Bosch combines cleaning and descaling in one programme called Calc'n'Clean on its fully automatic machines. Bosch's US page covers the 300, 500 and 800 series, and the VeroCafe manual has its own version. The steps differ between series, so use your own manual. These are Bosch's steps in plain English.

VeroCafe

1
Start the programme

Press calc'n'Clean as your manual directs and follow the display. Bosch's 300 series page gives about five seconds on that model.

2
Empty and clean

Empty the drip tray and dregs container, then clean the brewing unit as the manual shows.

3
Cleaning tablet

Place one cleaning tablet in the duct of the brewing unit and refit the unit.

4
Close up

Refit the tray and container, close the door and take out the water filter if one is fitted.

5
Descaler

Fill the empty tank with lukewarm water to the 0.5 litre mark and dissolve one descaling tablet. Refit the tank and put a container of about one litre under the outlet.

6
First phase

When calc'n'Clean flashes, press it. The first phase takes about 20 minutes.

7
Rinse the tank

Empty the container, clean the tank, refit the filter if you removed it, and fill with fresh cold still water to the max mark.

8
Second phase

Follow the display prompt for the rinse, then empty and clean the tray and the dregs container.

The VeroCafe manual says the full programme takes about 40 minutes.

300, 500 and 800 series

Bosch's US page lists a cleaning tablet and a descaling tablet for each, and containers of about 33 to 34 ounces under the outlet.
On the 300 series you press the Calc'n'Clean button for about five seconds, put a cleaning tablet in the right-hand compartment of the brewing unit behind the red casing, and fill the tank to the mark with warm water and a descaling tablet.
On the 500 series you dissolve a descaling tablet in 17 ounces of warm water and start descaling from the display.
On the 800 series the tablet goes in the slot in the bean container and the descaling tablet dissolves in the tank before you start.
Empty the drip tray and the grounds container between phases, and remove the water filter first if one is fitted.

Bosch's US page warns that delaying the programme may affect the performance of the appliance and the taste of your drinks. It does not give run times, and it does not describe what to do if the programme is interrupted.

What Bosch says to avoid

The VeroCafe manual says to avoid pure citric acid, vinegar and vinegar-based products, and phosphoric-acid descalers. It names Bosch cleaning and descaling tablets. Descaling a Bosch with vinegar is therefore the one method the maker rules out.

A built-in Bosch

The built-in CTL636 manual's table of faults was the only part. Check your built-in machine's manual. If you cannot find it, give us the product number and we will send the right steps before the visit.

For the general method behind descaling any coffee machine, see our guide to descaling a coffee machine.

An interrupted descale, a locked appliance and demo mode

Three states in the VeroCafe manual catch owners out.

After an interrupted programme, for example a power cut, the VeroCafe manual's reset is to clean and refill the tank with fresh water to the max mark, press calc'n'Clean and wait about two minutes for the rinse, then empty and clean the drip tray and close the door.
The manual lists an appliance-locked message. Running Calc'nClean clears it.
Demo mode is switched off by holding the power button for at least five seconds.

If the machine does not behave as the manual describes after the reset, message us before you run another cycle.

Cleaning a Bosch: daily, weekly and by part

The VeroCafe manual gives a plain cleaning list. Other Bosch machines may differ, so check yours.

WhenJob
RegularlyEmpty and clean the drip tray and the dregs container
Brewing unitClean under warm running water with no detergent. No dishwasher
PartDishwasher, according to the VeroCafe manual
Drip plate, drip grate, dregs container, fill-level indicator, milk frotherDishwasher-safe

The brewing unit is not dishwasher-safe, and vinegar is ruled out for descaling. Check it before using one on the outside.

Bosch's UAE page on cleaning fully automatic machines gives no schedule, so the table above is the VeroCafe manual only.

Water hardness and the filter

The VeroCafe manual has a menu to set the hardness. Hold the 0 and calc'n'Clean buttons for three seconds, choose water hardness, and pick level 1 to 4, water filter or the household softener setting if you have one.
Ask your water supplier for the hardness. We do not quote a figure for Dubai.
The manual says to change the filter at least every two months, and the display shows a change-the-filter message.
If calc'nClean is requested very often, the manual says to fit a new filter, set the right water hardness and use only suitable descaling tablets.

Setting the wrong hardness is a quiet cause of frequent descale prompts. It is also free to fix.

Power, plugs and safety

Dubai's supply is 230 volts at 50 hertz, which sits inside the 220 to 240 volt range the VeroCafe manual gives. A machine bought abroad for 110 or 120 volts will not match, so check the rating plate.

A damaged cord must be replaced by the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person, so do not use the machine until it is.
People with pacemakers or insulin pumps must keep the magnets at least 10 centimetres away.
Never reach into the grinder while it is running.
The manual says to keep the machine in a frost-free room, and to wait three hours before use if it has been stored below freezing.

These are the VeroCafe manual's points. Other Bosch models have their own safety pages, so read yours.

Tassimo and filter coffee makers

Tassimo pod machines are listed under the Bosch name, and Bosch publishes manuals for the TAS series. We repair Tassimo and Bosch filter coffee makers the same way: find the fault, quote it, and tell you if a new machine is cheaper.

For a pod machine, tell us the model number on the base and what the lights do.
For a filter coffee maker, tell us if the water is cold, the machine leaks, or it brews slowly.
Descaling follows the maker's manual for the model.

A basic Bosch filter coffee maker costs little new, so the repair has to be small to make sense.

Six checks before you message us

These come from Bosch's messages and the VeroCafe manual. Each takes a few minutes.

1
Read the display word for word

Bosch machines name the problem. A message about the water tank, the brewing unit or the drip tray points at a part you can inspect. Write down any code, such as E0510, before you switch off.

2
Switch off and wait

If the machine is unresponsive, the VeroCafe manual says to unplug it for 60 seconds. If it says to leave the device to cool, switch off for 30 minutes (CTL636 manual).

3
Take out and reseat the water tank

Bosch lists a tank that is not seated properly as the first cause of a refill message. Check the float moves freely and use fresh tap or still water, not sparkling.

4
Look at the brewing unit

A brewing unit with old coffee packed around it, or with more than two level spoons of ground coffee in the drawer, triggers the clean message. Rinse it under warm running water with no detergent.

5
Check the bean container

Oily beans can stop falling into the grinder and give a fill-the-container message with a full hopper. Too many beans in the grinder makes the grind dial stiff.

6
Check the filter and the last descale

A new filter that was not rinsed, or one with air in it, gives a water message. The VeroCafe manual lists an appliance-locked message that Calc'nClean clears. Check the date of the last descale and the hardness setting.

If the same message returns after all six, the cause is probably in a part you cannot reach, such as a sensor, a hose or the board. That is the point to message us.

How we narrow down a Bosch fault

This section describes our own method, not Bosch's. Bosch's UAE pages give no fault list, so the approach below comes from how we work through a machine at the customer's address.

What you seeWhat we look at firstWhy
A message about the brewing unitThe unit, its seals and the drawer, then the motor that moves itBosch gives the unit's condition as the cause, so we start there
A water message with a full tankThe float, the tank seat and the filter holder, then the sensorAll of Bosch's listed causes sit in the tank and filter area
Coffee dribbles or is weakThe grind setting and the beans, then the pump and the flow pathThe VeroCafe troubleshooting list puts grind first for slow or bitter coffee
Coffee is hot but milk does not frothThe milk container, hoses and sealsA blocked or worn milk path is the usual cause on machines with a milk system
Water collects under the machineCondensation first, then hoses and valvesThe CTL636 manual names condensation as a cause when the tray cover is missing
The machine switches off or shows a fault codeThe supply, then the board and sensorsBosch's under- and overvoltage messages point at the supply before the machine
Everything works but the display is oddSettings, the time and demo modeDemo mode and a power cut (12:00) are both settings states, not faults

Where the cause is a worn part, we show you the part and the price before it goes in. Where the cause is a setting or the water, we say so and charge the visit fee only.

A care routine for a Bosch in a Dubai home or office

The schedule below is ours, built on the maker's rules. Bosch's UAE pages give no schedule, so we suggest one and mark it as a suggestion.

How oftenJobSource
Whenever the display asksEmpty the drip tray and the grounds containerBosch display messages
Weekly, our suggestionRinse the brewing unit under warm running water with no detergent, and wash the milk partsCleaning rules from the VeroCafe manual, schedule is ours
At least every two monthsChange the water filter if you use oneVeroCafe manual
When the display asksRun Calc'n'Clean with Bosch tabletsBosch descaling pages
Each time you refillUse fresh water, and do not fill with sparkling waterBosch water message page
Each time you refill the beansAdd beans to the hopper in modest amounts. Oily beans may need a different brandBosch grinding and fill-bean-container messages

Two habits matter more than any single clean. Descale when the machine asks and do not postpone, because Bosch's own page says delay may affect performance and taste. Set the water hardness once, because a wrong value changes how often the machine asks.

Buying or moving a Bosch in the UAE

Check the rating plate before you buy abroad. A machine made for another supply will not suit the 220 to 240 volt range the VeroCafe manual gives.
Keep the invoice. Bosch's UAE service can arrange repairs in and out of warranty, and the product number on the rating plate is what they will need.
Ask which descaling tablets the model takes. The manual names Bosch's own tablets and rules out vinegar, pure citric acid and phosphoric-acid descalers.
If a built-in unit comes with a villa or apartment, ask for the manual.

If you are choosing between a repair and a second-hand replacement, send us the model and we will tell you what the likely faults cost before you decide.

What happens on the day

1
Questions first

We ask what the display said, how the problem began and when you last descaled.

2
The supply and the plate

We read the rating plate, check the socket and the voltage, and look for a descale or filter that is overdue.

3
Hands on

We lift out the tank and the brewing unit and inspect them in your kitchen or office.

4
Tests

We run the grinder, pump and heater only as far as the fault needs.

5
A single quoted price

Nothing is fitted until you agree it.

6
Proof it works

After the repair we brew a drink, froth milk if the machine has a milk system, and check for drips.

7
Cover

The part and the work carry one month of cover.

A repair that cannot be done at your address goes to the workshop. We tell you why, and how long it will take, before we collect it.

Mend it or replace it?

Bosch's UAE page on repair versus buying new gives no thresholds, so this is our rule. Get a quote, price a new machine of the same class, and start to doubt the repair when the quote reaches about half. Our usual verdicts:

Frequently asked questions

What will a Bosch coffee machine repair cost me in Dubai?

AED 100 plus VAT covers the visit and the diagnosis. If you go on with the repair, the bill usually falls between AED 80 and AED 400, agreed before any part is fitted.

Who repairs Bosch coffee machines in Dubai?

Bosch's UAE site names HOMEWIDE LLC for customer service. We are the independent option for machines out of warranty, with visits to homes and offices on +971 55 209 9785.

How do I descale a Bosch coffee machine?

Use the Calc'n'Clean programme with Bosch's cleaning and descaling tablets. On the VeroCafe, start the programme, put a cleaning tablet in the brewing unit duct, dissolve a descaling tablet in 0.5 litres of lukewarm water, and follow the two phases. It takes about 40 minutes.

Can I descale a Bosch with vinegar?

No. The VeroCafe manual says to avoid pure citric acid, vinegar and vinegar-based products, and phosphoric-acid descalers.

How do I descale a built-in Bosch coffee machine?

Use your machine's own manual. Send us the product number and we will find the steps.

Why does my Bosch say clean brewing unit?

Bosch gives three causes: a dirty unit, too much ground coffee in it, and a stiff mechanism. Clean the unit under warm running water with no detergent and keep ground coffee to two level spoons.

Why does my Bosch say the tank is empty when it is full?

Bosch lists a tank not seated properly, carbonated water, a stuck float, air in the filter, and a new filter that was not rinsed or is faulty. Check each, descale, and call if it stays.

What does E0510 mean on a Bosch coffee machine?

Bosch says only that there is a fault with the appliance. Follow the display, then book an engineer with Bosch or message us.

Why is the grind adjustment on my Bosch stiff?

Bosch's cause is too many beans in the grinding unit. Brew a drink first to clear them, and change the grind a little at a time with a few beans.

Why does my Bosch say leave device to cool?

The machine is too hot. The CTL636 manual says to switch it off for 30 minutes. If it keeps coming back on a rested machine, message us.

How often should I change the filter?

The VeroCafe manual says at least every two months. The display shows a change-the-filter message.

Why does my Bosch say 12:00?

Bosch's CTL636 manual says it means a power failure. Set the time again. If it happens without a power cut, the supply or the board needs checking.

Why is there water under the drip tray?

The CTL636 manual names condensation, and says not to insert the drip tray without its cover. If the water keeps coming, we check the hoses and valves for a leak.

Does my Bosch work in the UAE?

Dubai's 230 volts at 50 hertz sits inside the 220 to 240 volt range the VeroCafe manual gives. Check the rating plate on a machine bought abroad.

Should I repair my Bosch or buy another?

A brewing unit, milk system or tank fault on a fully automatic machine is normally worth mending. For a heater or board on an older compact model, set the quote against a new machine first.
