Overview

A Miele washing machine deserves a careful repair. One Click Dubai provides one at your home in Dubai, on the same day in most cases. Miele washing machine repair covers the W1 range, TwinDos and PowerWash models, older W series machines and Miele washer dryers.

Miele builds its machines to last for decades of washing, so a fault on a Miele is nearly always worth repairing. We fit genuine Miele parts, ordered by the model and serial number on the data plate.

Miele machines report faults as numbered codes and plain messages. This page explains the ones owners search for, F53, F63, F20, F220 and the drain fault, then the door that will not open, leaks, TwinDos, installation and cost.

Miele washing machine repair in Dubai: what we fix and what it costs

Miele washing machine repair in Dubai is priced in two parts: an AED 100 diagnostic visit, plus VAT, and then the repair itself. You are then given a fixed price for the repair. Miele parts cost more than most, and sit at or above the top of Dubai market ranges: a drain pump from about AED 400, an electronic module from about AED 800.

Miele washing machine fault codes: the list

Miele washing machine fault codes are an F followed by a number, sometimes shown with a short message. Miele divides them into faults the owner can check and technical faults that need a repair. The table gives Miele's own description of each.

What to do when a Miele shows a technical fault

1
Note the code

And what the machine was doing: filling, heating, washing, draining or spinning.

2
Switch off and wait

Disconnect from the power for at least two minutes. That is Miele's own reset interval.

3
Restart the programme

If the code does not return, it may have been a one-off.

4
If it returns, stop

Send us the code and book a visit.

Fault F53: the drum drive

Miele fault F53 means a fault with the drum drive. The electronics commanded the drum to turn and did not see the speed they expected. Miele classes it as a technical fault that the owner cannot remedy. In practice it comes from one of five parts.

PartRoleHow it causes F53
Speed sensor on the motorReports the motor's speed to the electronicsA failed sensor or broken wire gives no signal, so the machine stops
Carbon brushes, on brushed motorsCarry current to the rotorWorn brushes make the drum turn weakly or not at all
Drive beltTurns the drum from the motorA broken or thrown belt lets the motor run with no load
MotorDrives the drumA winding fault or seized bearing
Power electronicsDrive and regulate the motorA failed triac or inverter stage

What you may notice before F53

The drum hesitates at the start of the wash.
The spin is weak, or the machine stops before it.
A smell of hot carbon, on older brushed models.
The fault appears with heavy loads first.

We test the sensor, brushes and belt before the motor or the electronics, since those are the commoner causes and the cheaper repairs. Newer W1 machines with the ProfiEco motor have no brushes, and on those F53 is a sensor, wiring or electronics fault.

Fault F63: the water path control unit

Miele fault F63 means a technical fault with the water path control unit. This is the motorised distributor that directs incoming water through the correct chamber of the detergent drawer for prewash, main wash and softener. When its motor or position switch fails, the machine cannot confirm where the water is going, and stops.

Signs. the programme stops soon after starting, softener is taken at the wrong time or not at all, or detergent is left in the drawer.
Causes. a failed distributor motor, a worn position switch, detergent residue jamming the mechanism, or a wiring fault.
What you can do. pull the drawer out and clean the drawer and its housing thoroughly. Hardened detergent can jam the distributor. Then reset the machine for two minutes and try again.
What we do. test the unit and its wiring, and replace the water path control unit when it has failed.

Miele states that F63 is not a fault the owner can remedy. If cleaning the drawer and one reset do not clear it, book a visit.

Fault F20: heating

Miele fault F20 has two meanings. On some machines it is not a fault: the Thermostop function is holding the programme until the set temperature is reached. On others it means a fault with the heating. Miele's first step is the same for both.

1
Disconnect the machine from the power

At the socket or the breaker.

2
Wait at least two minutes
3
Reconnect and switch on
4
Restart the programme

If F20 returns, the heating circuit needs testing. The parts involved are the heating element, the temperature sensor, the heater relay on the electronics, and the wiring between them. A heater coated in scale works harder and fails sooner, and one that has failed to earth trips the breaker.

Signs of a heating fault without a code

Washing comes out cold on a hot programme.
Programmes run much longer than their stated time.
Greasy marks and odours are not removed.
The Hygiene info light comes on because no hot programme has completed.

Drain fault and "Check drain": fault F11

A Miele drain fault, shown as F11 or the message Check drain, means the water did not leave in time. Miele names three causes: the drain hose is too high, the hose is kinked or looped, or the drain filter or pump is blocked.

Check the hose

The highest point of the drain hose must not be more than 1 metre above the floor.
Remove kinks and loops.
After a move or a kitchen refit, check the hose was not hooked higher than before.

Clean the drain filters

1
Switch off and unplug

Let hot water cool. Miele warns of scalding.

2
Open the drain pump access panel

At the bottom front. Put a tray underneath.

3
Loosen the drain filter slowly

Let the water run out, tightening the filter again if it flows too fast.

4
Remove and clean the filter

Once the flow stops.

5
Check the pump impeller

It must turn freely. Remove anything caught in it.

6
Refit and tighten

A filter that is not fully tight leaks.

If F11 returns with a clear filter, a free impeller and a correct hose, the drain pump or its wiring has failed. We replace it with the genuine Miele pump.

Fault F220, F138 and "Waterproof system activated"

These three Miele messages all report water where it should not be. F220, which some displays show as F0220, means the washing machine is leaking. F138 means there is water in the drip tray. Waterproof system activated means Miele's leak protection has shut the inlet and is running the drain pump.

1
Close the tap
2
Disconnect the machine from the power

The drain pump stops when you do.

3
Look for water

Under and around the machine, and at the hose connections.

4
For F220 with no water found

Miele's advice is to reconnect, start a programme and see whether the machine runs normally. On connected machines, keep the Wi-Fi on so software updates can install.

5
For F138 or a Waterproof message, or if water is found

Leave the machine off and book a repair. The leak has to be found and the drip tray emptied.

Getting the laundry out

With the power off, the door stays locked. Open the drain pump access panel, drain the water through the filter into a tray, and use the emergency release beside it to open the door. Miele's instructions describe releasing it with a screwdriver.

Miele washing machine door will not open

A Miele washing machine door that will not open is usually being held for a reason that is not a fault. Miele lists four, and only after ruling them out is the lock suspected.

ReasonHow to tellWhat to do
Anti-crease is runningThe drum turns briefly every so often for up to 30 minutes after the programmeEnd the programme, then open the door
The programme is still activeThe display shows time remaining, or a Locked lightWait, or pause as your manual describes
The drum is too hotA hot programme has just finished. The door is held while the inside is above 55°CWait. It releases when the machine cools
No powerDisplay blankCheck the plug and the breaker
Door release faultF35, or none of the above appliesEmergency release, then book a visit

Miele's emergency release

1
Unplug the machine
2
Open the drain pump access panel

And drain the water into a container. There may be a lot.

3
Release the door

With the release beside the drain filter, using a screwdriver as Miele describes.

4
Check the drum is still

Before reaching inside.

Do not force the door. A Miele W1 door that will not open is far more often waiting than broken. Our door locked guide covers other makes.

Miele washing machine leaking underneath

A Miele washing machine leaking underneath is unusual, because the drip tray and the Waterproof system normally catch a leak and stop the machine before water reaches the floor. Water on the floor therefore usually comes from outside the cabinet, or from the front.

Where the water isLikely source
Front corner, after cleaning the drain filterFilter not screwed fully tight
At the doorDoor seal dirty or damaged, or an item trapped in it
From the detergent drawerDrawer overfilled, blocked, or water pressure very high
At the backInlet hose connection at the tap or the machine, or the drain hose out of its standpipe
Under the machine, no messageDrip tray overflowing, or its float not operating
Under the machine, with F138 or a Waterproof messageInternal hose, pump seal, tub seal or dispenser hose

Dry the floor, check the drain filter is tight and the hoses are secure, and run a short programme while you watch. If water appears from under the machine, switch off and book a visit.

Not starting, and not spinning

A Miele washing machine that will not start is usually waiting for the door to lock, or has no power. One that will not spin has found the load unbalanced, has not drained, or has a drive fault.

Miele washing machine will not start

Display blank. socket, breaker, or the machine's own power switch on older models.
Display on, Start does nothing. the door is not locked. Close it firmly. F34 means the lock could not engage, often from an overloaded drum.
A lock symbol or PIN request. the system lock is on.
Delay start set. a time is counting down.
Starts, then F10. no water.

Miele washing machine not spinning

Final spin reduced or skipped, clothes wet. the imbalance monitoring could not distribute the load. Add items or wash the heavy one with others.
Not spinning, water in the drum. F11, the drain.
Spin speed set low, or a programme with a gentle spin. check the setting.
Stops with F53. the drum drive.

TwinDos: refilling, maintenance and faults

Miele TwinDos stores two liquid detergents in cartridges or refillable containers and doses them automatically. It needs refilling, occasional maintenance and correct settings, and most TwinDos problems are one of those three and not a fault.

Miele TwinDos refill

Miele's UltraPhase 1 and 2 cartridges click into the two compartments behind the flap at the bottom front.
Refillable TwinDos containers can be filled with your own liquid detergent and softener. The dosing quantity is then set in the machine's settings to match the product's label.
The display tells you when a cartridge is nearly empty.

TwinDos maintenance

If TwinDos has not been used for a long time, or you are changing detergent type, run the TwinDos maintenance programme. It rinses the hoses and pumps so detergent does not dry inside them. The machine prompts for it, and it is started from the settings or maintenance menu, with a special cleaning container on some models.

TwinDos not usable

The programme selected does not allow automatic dosing. Use the detergent drawer for that programme.
TwinDos has been switched off in settings, or was skipped at first set-up. Switch it on in the Settings menu under TwinDos. On models with only a time display, it is programming function P65.
The cartridge is not detected. The small switch at the back of the compartment has failed. That is a repair.

We repair TwinDos dosing pumps, hoses and detection switches.

The Miele maintenance wash

The Miele maintenance wash is a hot programme run with the drum empty to clean the inside of the machine. Miele machines remind you with the Hygiene info light when no programme at 60°C or above has been run for some time.

1
Empty the drum
2
Select Clean machine

Or Cottons at 75°C or above on machines without that programme.

3
Add a machine cleaner or a general-purpose powder detergent

Powder contains oxygen bleach, which liquids do not.

4
Let it finish, then wipe the door seal and glass

Run it every one to three months, and more often if you mostly wash at 30 or 40°C with liquid detergent. Clean the detergent drawer and its housing at the same time.

W1, honeycomb drum, PowerWash and ProfiEco: what each means at repair

Miele's model names describe real differences inside the machine. Knowing which yours has helps you describe a fault, and tells us which parts to bring.

NameWhat it isWhat it means at repair
W1Miele's current washing machine generationParts are ordered by model and serial number. Fault codes use the F numbers on this page
Honeycomb drumA drum surface of small raised cells with tiny holesGentle on fabric. Fewer objects escape into the pump, so pump blockages are rarer than on other makes
ProfiEco motorA brushless motorNo carbon brushes to replace. A drive fault is electronic or a sensor
PowerWashA circulation pump that sprays the load, to wash small loads with less waterAdds a second pump and its hoses, which can block or leak
TwinDosAutomatic two-phase detergent dosingAdds dosing pumps, hoses and detection switches
CapDosingSingle-dose capsules placed in the drawerNo extra parts. A capsule left in place can block the drawer flow
Older W series, such as W3000 and W5000The previous generationsBrushed motors on many. Brushes and shock absorbers are the common wear parts
WT1 washer dryerWashes and dries in one drumAdds a drying heater, fan and condenser to everything above

Cast-iron counterweights and a steel outer drum are part of why a Miele weighs so much, and why its bearings and shock absorbers last. When they do wear, the repair is worth doing.

Installing a Miele washing machine

We install Miele washing machines, including W1 models, and stack them with Miele dryers. A Miele is much heavier than most machines because of its cast-iron counterweights, and that weight is what keeps it still in the spin. It also makes installation a two-person job.

1
Remove the transit bars

Miele uses two bars through the back, released with the spanner supplied by turning each a quarter turn and pulling it out. Fit the cover plugs. Clip the bars into their holders on the back panel for the next move.

2
Level the machine

Adjust the four feet with the spanner and lock each with its counter nut. A level Miele does not move.

3
Connect the inlet hose

To a cold tap. The Waterproof hose has a safety valve at the tap end and must not be cut.

4
Fit the drain hose

With its highest point no more than 1 metre above the floor.

5
Power

A wall socket of its own.

6
First run

Miele asks for a first programme with no laundry, Cottons at 90°C, to flush the machine.

For a washer and dryer stack, the Miele stacking kit for your models is fitted, and the dryer goes on top.

Why a Miele is usually worth repairing

Miele tests its washing machines for the equivalent of 20 years of use, and prices them accordingly. A new Miele W1 costs from about AED 4,200 in Dubai, and TwinDos models from about AED 6,900. Against those figures, most repairs are a small fraction of replacement.

The exception is a very old machine that needs several major parts at once, or one whose part is no longer supplied. We tell you when that is the case.

Miele parts we fit, and what they cost

We fit genuine Miele parts. Miele parts are specific to the model, and prices are at or above the top of the Dubai market ranges below, which are 2026 figures published by companies in the city, before VAT.

Miele washing machine repair and service cost

Miele washing machine repair cost in Dubai depends mostly on the part. Our diagnostic visit is AED 100 plus VAT, and the repair price is fixed before work starts. Simple repairs, such as a pump or a lock, are a few hundred dirhams. Electronic modules and bearing work cost more.

A Miele washing machine service for a working machine covers the drain filters and pump, inlet filter, door seal, drawer and water path, TwinDos system, shock absorbers and brushes where fitted, and a maintenance wash. It is worth doing every year or two, since it catches a worn brush or a weeping hose before it stops the machine.

Frequently asked questions

What does F53 mean on a Miele washing machine?

A fault with the drum drive. It needs a technician. The usual causes are the speed sensor, brushes, belt, motor or electronics.

What does F63 mean?

A fault with the water path control unit, which directs water through the detergent drawer. Clean the drawer and reset once. If it returns, book a repair.

What does F20 mean?

Either the machine is holding until it reaches temperature, or there is a heating fault. Disconnect for two minutes and restart. If it returns, the heating needs testing.

What does F0220 or F220 mean?

The machine has detected a leak. Disconnect it, check for water, and restart once. If the fault returns or water is found, book a repair.

Why will my Miele door not open?

Usually anti-crease is still running, the programme is active, or the drum is above 55°C. Wait, or end the programme. Use the emergency release only with the power off and the water drained.

Do you fit genuine Miele parts?

Yes, ordered by model and serial number.

Is it worth repairing an old Miele?

Nearly always. They are built for about 20 years of use, and most repairs cost a small part of a new machine.

How do I run TwinDos maintenance?

From the settings or maintenance menu, when the machine prompts for it or when changing detergent.

How long does a Miele repair take?

Most take one to two hours at your home. Ordered parts are fitted on a second visit, with the date given first.

Do you install Miele washing machines?

Yes, including removing the transit bars, levelling and stacking with a Miele dryer.
