A home service suits Ariston better than most brands, because so many Ariston machines in Dubai are built in. They sit under a worktop behind a cabinet door, screwed to the units on either side. Taking one to a workshop means dismantling part of the kitchen. We repair them in place, or slide them out onto a protective sheet when access to the back is needed, and refit the door and plinth afterwards.

Ariston washing machine door locked: how to open a locked door
An Ariston washing machine door locked after the wash will open once the door lock light has gone out, which takes a few minutes. To open a locked door that stays shut longer, first find out whether water is still in the drum.
On steadily means locked. Wait until it is off before trying the handle.
If there is water, the machine has not drained and the lock is holding for safety. Run Drain or Spin.
Unplug, open the plinth or filter cover at the bottom front, and release the water slowly into a tray through the pump filter.
The lock relies on a heated strip that needs time to cool and release.
If the handle feels loose and the door stays shut, the handle or hook has broken.
Why not to force it
The door on an Ariston is a plastic frame around a glass bowl, hung on one hinge. Forcing it breaks the handle, cracks the frame or bends the hinge, and none of those is covered by replacing the lock. A technician opens a jammed door from above, with the worktop or lid lifted, by pushing the lock's release by hand.
Aqualtis door locks
Ariston and Hotpoint Aqualtis models have a large, wide door with its own style of lock and a long handle built into the door rim. An Aqualtis door lock is replaced in the same way as other Ariston locks, from the front after releasing the seal, and the handle mechanism is a separate part inside the door. Ariston washing machine flashing lights
Ariston washing machine lights flashing in a repeating pattern, with the machine refusing to respond, is a fault signal. Models with a display show the same fault as F and a number. Ariston uses the same fault numbering as Hotpoint and Indesit machines of the same generation.
Reset first
Disconnect the machine from the mains for at least two minutes, reconnect it, wait half a minute and start a programme. A fault caused by a power dip clears. A real fault comes back, usually at the same stage of the wash.
What the fault numbers mean
Machines without a display
On an Ariston with only indicator lights, the fault number is shown by which of the small lights flash together. The arrangement depends on the control panel, so we ask for a short video. Ariston washing machine problems: an overview
Ariston washing machine problems follow a pattern set by the machine's design and age. This table lists the ones we repair most, with the part usually responsible.
Age is not the only factor. A washer dryer that dries every load works its heater, fan and door lock twice as hard as a machine that only washes, and a machine on an unstable supply is harder on its board.
None of these is unusual, and all are repairable. The question with an older Ariston is only whether the repair makes financial sense, and the cost section below gives our view for each.
Ariston washing machine not spinning
An Ariston washing machine not spinning has either skipped the spin because of water, balance or foam, or cannot turn the drum because of worn brushes, a failed belt or a control fault.
Ariston front loaders of the ARXL and ARMXXL generations use brushed motors, and brushes are the first thing we check on any of them that has stopped turning. The repair is quick and inexpensive when it is done before the brush holders damage the motor.
Built-in models add one more cause. A machine fixed tightly between cabinets with a load of towels can touch the units as the tub swings, and the control reads the knock as imbalance. Checking the fixing and the feet is part of our visit. Further checks are in the not spinning guide.
Ariston washing machine not draining
An Ariston washing machine not draining signals F05 or its light pattern and keeps the door locked. The pump filter is the cause in most cases, and it is the first check.
Lay towels along the front.
On freestanding models it is behind the kick panel. On built-in models, remove the kitchen plinth, then the machine's own panel.
Turn the filter a little at a time over a shallow tray.
Check that the impeller is free.
Built-in machines often have the hose kinked where it passes through the side of a cabinet to the sink trap.
Grease from the kitchen sink blocks the small inlet where the washer hose joins.
If the filter and hose are clear and the fault returns, the pump has failed or its wiring has, which Ariston lists separately as F11. A pump is replaced from underneath or from the front, depending on the model, in under an hour. See the not draining guide.
Ariston washing machine not starting
An Ariston washing machine not starting, with its lights on, is nearly always waiting for the door lock to confirm. With no lights at all, it has no supply or a failed board.
Child lock is worth ruling out as well. With it on, the panel lights up and ignores every button. Hold the button marked with the key or padlock for a few seconds to release it.
A delay timer set by accident is another cause. Turn the dial to Off or reset, wait a few seconds and select the programme again. Our won't start guide has more.
Ariston washing machine leaking
An Ariston washing machine leaking has a fault at the door seal, the pump filter, a hose or the tub, and on a built-in machine the leak may show first as a swollen plinth or water under the next cabinet.
Built-in machines hide leaks. If the laminate edge of the plinth has swollen, or there is a damp smell in the cabinet beside the washer, slide the plinth off and look with a torch. A slow leak found at that stage costs a hose clip or a seal. Left for months, it costs a kitchen base unit.

Ariston top loaders and washer dryers
Ariston top loaders and washer dryers each have faults that the standard front loader does not, and we repair both at home.
Top loaders
The narrow Ariston top loader has a horizontal drum with two flaps that open upward. The drum must stop with the flaps at the top. When it stops with them underneath, the drum position sensor or its magnet has failed, which the control reports as F16. Flaps that spring open during a wash damage the tub and the heater, so a top loader that has started to clatter should be stopped and checked at once.
Other top loader faults are shared with front loaders: brushes, belt, pump and door, or in this case lid, lock.
Washer dryers
Built-in washer dryers do the heaviest work of any Ariston in Dubai, washing and drying daily in an enclosed space. Their drying ducts need cleaning every couple of years. Dry half the wash load at a time. See also washer dryer repair.
Built-in Ariston machines: access, removal and refitting
A built-in Ariston washing machine can be repaired without damage to the kitchen if it is taken out and put back in the right order. This is routine work for us.
The kitchen plinth unclips or unscrews. The machine's own lower panel is behind it.
It hangs on two hinges screwed to the machine's front, with a magnet or catch on the other side.
Brackets under the worktop or screws into the side units are undone.
Before the machine moves, so that nothing is pulled off under the sink.
Onto a protective sheet, on its own feet.
With the feet reset so that the furniture door lines up with its neighbours.
Many repairs do not need the machine out at all. The door lock, door seal, pump filter and, on most models, the pump are reached from the front. Brushes, belt, heater and motor need the back or the top, and so the machine comes out.
If you are replacing a built-in Ariston with a new machine, we remove the old one, transfer the furniture door and fit the new one. Measure the hinge positions first, because not every integrated washer accepts the same door drilling.

Built-in machines change the sum. A new integrated washer dryer costs considerably more than a freestanding one and has to fit the existing door and space, so a repair that would be marginal on a freestanding Ariston is usually worth doing on a built-in one.

Ariston control board faults
An Ariston that is dead with a good supply, shows F01, F09, F12 or F18 after a reset, or never switches on one function while the part itself tests good, has a control board fault.
Component faults are repaired on the bench in our workshop, and the machine stays in your kitchen. A board that cannot be repaired is replaced with a genuine one set up for the model. Because the board on a built-in Ariston sits in an enclosed, warm space, often next to a dishwasher or under a sink, we also look for the damp or heat that shortened its life.

A programme that overruns by an hour and leaves the laundry cold points to the heating element or its temperature sensor, F08 or F03 on display models. A split element can also trip the breaker a few minutes into the wash. Both parts are changed in one visit.
