On models with a display, the same fault appears as F followed by two digits.
How to fix it: start with Indesit's reset
Take the plug out of the socket. Switching off at the dial is not enough.

Let the board start up before touching anything.

Indesit washer flashing lights: reading the pattern
The lights that carry the code are the small option or wash-stage lights. Which of them flash, and which stay dark, gives the fault number. Indesit uses two panel layouts, one with the lights in a row and one with them in a column, so the pattern for a given fault differs between models.
You do not need to decode it yourself. Film the panel for ten seconds and send the clip on WhatsApp with the model code. We work out the fault number from it and bring the part.
All lights flashing with F05: the drain
Indesit washing machine all lights flashing F05 means the machine could not empty. Indesit describes F05 as a waste pipe blockage or pump issue and advises checking the pump filter and the waste hose. On an Indesit, the filter is behind the kick strip at the bottom front, and it must be opened slowly over a tray because the drum's water comes out there.
If the filter and hose are clear and F05 returns, the pump has failed, or the pressure sensor that tells the board the drum is empty is giving a false reading. We test both.
Lights flashing with F06: the door lock
Indesit washing machine lights flashing F06 is a door lock fault in Indesit's current list. Check that nothing is caught between the door and the seal and that the door clicks. The rest of Indesit's fault numbers
If your Indesit washing machine has blinking lights but still responds to the buttons, look at whether only the Start/Pause light is flashing. A slow, steady Start/Pause flash simply means the programme is paused or waiting for you to press Start.

An Indesit door lock light that is on steadily means the door is locked, which is normal during a wash. An Indesit door lock light flashing rapidly, together with other lights, is a fault signal. A lock light that stays on long after the cycle, with the door shut tight, means the lock has not released.
Why Indesit locks fail
The lock is heated electrically each time it closes and cools each time it opens. After some thousands of cycles its contacts burn or the plastic body distorts with heat. The first signs are a machine that sometimes needs the door slammed to start, or a lock light that flickers during the wash.
In the United Kingdom the maker ran a safety recall on certain Indesit and Hotpoint washers built between 2014 and 2018 because of the door lock. If your machine came from the UK and dates from those years, check the model with the maker before using it further.
A red light flashing on an Indesit is never a reason to keep restarting. One reset, then find the cause.
Indesit washing machine door locked or won't open
An Indesit washing machine door locked after the programme should open within about three minutes, once the lock light is out. If the door won't open after that, either there is water in the drum, the lock has jammed, or the door handle has broken inside.
How to unlock an Indesit door
If you see water, the machine has not drained and the lock is doing its job. Run Drain or Spin, or empty the drum at the pump filter.
Unplug the machine and wait five minutes for the lock to cool.
If the handle moves loosely and nothing happens, the handle or hook is broken, not the lock.
Levering the door bends the hinge and tears the seal. A technician releases the lock from inside with the lid off.

To unlock an Indesit washing machine permanently, the failed lock has to be changed. We lift the lid, release the lock by hand, then free the seal's outer band, undo two screws and swap the lock and its plug. A broken handle or hook is replaced by splitting the door. Either takes 30 to 40 minutes.
IWDE126 and IWDC6125 door locks
The Indesit IWDE126 and IWDC6125 are washer dryers, and their door locks work harder than a washer's because the door is held through a hot drying phase as well. On these two models the door stays locked after drying until the drum has cooled, which can take longer than after a wash. If the lock light stays on with a cold, empty drum, the lock needs replacing, and we carry the correct part for both models.

Indesit washing machine not spinning, or drum not spinning
An Indesit washing machine not spinning at the end of the wash usually still has water in it or has an unbalanced load. An Indesit drum not spinning or turning at any point has a drive fault, and on Indesit's brushed motors the carbon brushes are the usual cause, signalled as F02.
Indesit washer not spinning is one of the cheaper faults to cure when it is brushes or a belt. Leave it too long with worn brushes, though, and the brush holders arc against the motor's commutator and ruin it. If the drum has been getting weaker for weeks, stop using the machine and book.

An Indesit washing machine not draining leaves the laundry in grey water, keeps the door locked and signals F05. The pump filter is the first place to look, and Indesit's own advice is the same.
And lay towels along the front.

Let the water out in stages into a low tray.
Check that the small impeller turns and is not wrapped in thread or hair.

Run a Drain programme.
An Indesit washer not draining after that has a failed pump, a blocked sump hose between the tub and the pump, or a pump circuit fault, which Indesit lists separately as F11. A sock that has slipped between the drum and the tub and lodged in the sump hose is a common find on Indesit machines.

Indesit washing machine not turning on
An Indesit washing machine not turning on, with no lights at all, has no power reaching its board or a failed board. Check the supply before assuming the worst.
With the supply proven, the fault is inside: the mains filter at the back, the wiring loom where it flexes, or the power supply section of the control board. Indesit boards often fail after a power cut, when the supply returns with a surge.

What goes wrong on the board
Repair, reprogram or replace
Component faults are repaired on the bench in our workshop, and your machine stays where it is. Where the memory is corrupt, the board is reprogrammed for the exact model. Where the board is burnt or cracked, we fit a genuine new board. An Indesit replacement board must be programmed for the machine's model code, so a board bought loose from the internet and plugged in will usually not run.
We also test what the board was driving. A heater leaking to earth or a motor with worn brushes will take out a newly repaired board within weeks if it is left in place.

Sealed tubs
On many Indesit front loaders the outer tub is welded shut at the factory, so the bearings cannot be pressed out and replaced on their own. On an Indesit under six or seven years old in good condition, yes. On an older machine, the cost of a tub assembly is often more than half the price of a new washer, and we will say so. What we advise against is carrying on with failed bearings. The drum eventually drops, the belt comes off, and the heater or the tub is damaged by the drum rubbing against it.

Indesit washer dryers that wash but will not dry
An Indesit washer dryer that completes the wash and leaves the laundry wet after drying has a fault in the drying circuit, which is separate from everything the washing side uses.
On the IWDE126, IWDC6125 and similar models, the drying load is smaller than the washing load, and the figures are printed on the door label. A full wash load cannot tumble freely, so it will not dry however long the programme runs. Split it in two.
